    My wife decided she wanted to get a scooter a few years ago, after riding a 750 Honda Shadow for a few years. We couldn't find one locally, but my son in Springfield Mo., found a Kymco 500cc. I'm not familiar with Kymco, but we drove 350 miles to see it, and ended up buying it for a good price. It only had 2500 miles on it, and looked like new. I was a little apprehensive about riding an off brand scooter 350 miles back home, but that was the only way we had to get it home. I headed out the next day with my wife driving behind me. The highway was similar to interstate with the speed limit at 65. I was running down the road at 70, and it flew up and around the hills and curves with NO problems! She decided it was too big for her, so I rode it for a long while to work and back, around 80 miles round trip. We finally sold it, and now I wish I had it back. There's just no one in our area that works on Kymco bikes.

    On my ride to Alaska I ran into a man from Michigan on the Alaska Highway. He was riding a Burgman 650. I saw him on several occasions and discussed his choice. Turns out he chose it as it was an automatic and he had arthritis problems. Alfter Whitehorse, Yukon I lost track until we me up 5 days later at the ferry teminal in Haynes. In talking with him I found out he had ridden to the Arctic Circle via the Dalton Highway out of Fairbanks. I still envy him, I didn't have the guts.

    I got my 2018 650 Burgman partially because of your videos. I've had all sorts of bikes including big tourers but honestly it's in the top 3 of bikes I've owned. And I've been riding nearly 44 years.

      I have a burgmen 400. Is it worth upgrading to the 650? Am asking because I rode mine on the freeway and it does good, but I’m moving to Texas and the speeds are allot higher there

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jjninja79 it really depends on what you’ll be using it for if you’re doing a lot of freeway driving then I would say it would be worth it. But if you’re scooting around town and hitting some freeway here in there, I would just stick with the 400 they’re both great bikes.

      @JJ Garcia I don't think you'll regret getting the 650. I can do 500 miles a day on mine easily & in comfort. Good fuel consumption, too. I can get 76 mpg (imperial gallon, I'm in the UK) sitting at 70mph. If I'm not in a hurry 80 plus mpg at 60ish mph. Enjoy!

    I had 2 Goldwings. A 2008, and a 2017 with DCT. This Burgman beats them both in comfort and ease, especially around town. It is heavy, but still half what a Goldwing weighs. It's not really a two-up tourer, so I'd give the Goldwing that. I tour on my Burgman -- Montana, Arizona, Mexico, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, and everywhere in between. For all its practicality, the Burgman is hands down the best bike I've ever owned.

    I owned a 650 Burgman Executive that I put 39,000 miles on it traveling through 36 states. According to my GPS, it would go 107 MPH before getting squirrelly. I'm 6'4" tall and had to remove the backrest to get comfortable on it. I learned to limit my long trips to less than 7,000 miles as that seemed to be all I could expect out of the rear tire. I traded it in on a 2011 Victory Vision that now has 97,000 miles on it. I would like to go back to a scooter (I'm 70), and sadly found out that the 650 Burgman is no longer made in 2023.

    I had a 650 for a couple of years and it was the most practical motorcycle I'd ever had. All that storage, decent weather protection, and still exciting in sport mode. I just can't with CVT - it's a great technology but I could never get away from the feel of driving the bike rather than *riding* the bike. So, I swapped it for a big chromed out cruiser I could put more of my own stank on an tinker with, and now I have the mechanical gear shift that I just think makes me feel more connected to the ride. Still, I do miss the Burgman once in a while.

    Just taking a moment to say Thanks for this and other Burg videos. I've watched various reviews in the past and off and on I thought I'd like one. (Currently have a Lance PCH125 and @ 1.5 years ago I got a Kymco X-Town 300i) I wanted the bigger bike to do some freeway stuff.. but for no good reason I was afraid of used bikes. (used cars-no problem-lol) The Kymco is good, but tall for my short legs and feels like anything over 75 is working it a bit. I randomly looked at 650 Burgs again and found a local, theft salvaged 07 that I got for $2300 with 17K miles. So far I'm very happy and this video is one I've watched over the years thinking about them! Thanks!

    Loved my B650. Two reasons not mentioned. With my wife on the back there was no noticeable loss in acceleration unlike mid sized cruisers. Quite a surprise but that is the advantage of the CVT transmission. Second unlike a cruiser with bags and a backrest she could get on it by stepping over the footrests and sliding back onto her seat. She just could not get onto a cruiser. I sold it because we moved and the new house had a long gravel driveway. Moving a heavy CVT scoot with no neutral was almost impossible on loose gravel. As well my wife lost interest in biking. But what a nice scooter overall

I know is crazy but is something I want to do . What do you think about a burgman will be good for that task , but since is a lots of speed bumps and holes on the roads Would be hard on any motorcycle. I am looking on a 2006 with 10000 miles for that trip . Any advice for a long trip on the burgman. This dream trip might happen next year by July .

    I have a question: do you think, that the use of the manuel shift reduces gas consumption? And if so, the manuel shift can be used without reducing gas in the moment of shifting? I mean, just like a normal motorcycle. Or keep the former gas position?

      thank you for your answer - in the mean while, I´ve checked it out: it gives a small advantage safing gas to shift manual - if you ride downtown or in the mountains (also to use manual shift for the reason of assisting breaks) - over 90km/h it doesent´make any difference ande the rpm are the same. So it might be a good idea to use auto on freeway for jumping lazy...😆

      The way I attach things to the handlebars are via the top of the brake reservoirs a company named MCL, which I don’t believe is in business any longer made covers for those reservoirs that allowed ram ball mounts to be attached to them. Then from there you could attach anything with a Ram mount. I will try and make a video showing this. Also, I believe ram at one time made brake reservoir covers or adapters that attach to the reservoir covers to allow for ram ball mounts. I don’t know if they still make those though.

    I own a 2009 Burgman AN Executive. I find it runs very well on highway keeping up with the sports bikes, cruisers and tourers. The engine has plenty of response as does the transmission which can be used in a manual mode giving a 6th over drove gear for improved fuel economy. The tank provides about 200kms of range which for me is about 2 hours of riding and time for a stop. Disc breaks all round; two on the front with ABS mean plenty of stopping power. The electrically adjustable screen for good air flow at low speed but higher to keep the wind off on the highway is great as are the fold in mirrors. There is plenty of in dash and under seat storage but a top box completes the outfit. In my opinion it is the bench mark for maxi scooters. Sadly they are no longer sold in Australia (where I live). Forget the bike v scooter thing just ride what you like and can afford because it is where you're going not what you ride.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 650 is more of a refined scooter. But it’s also big and bulky so depending on the use, you can get by fine and do pretty much the same stuff on a 400 the 400 is also a single cylinder, whereas the 650 is a twin. 400 is also a lot lighter.

    I just bought a 2011 650 Burgman Executive with 3500 miles on it! It's the second Burgman 650 for me. First one was a 2008 650 Executive. I love these machines, there is nothing in the scooter world that even comes close. Too bad Suzuki seen fit to end production.
    For long distance freeway riding I usually put the transmission in manual mode, you'll see less RPM's and it'll probably indicate 5th gear if you're around 60-70mph. Shift into 6th and it's like a locking torque converter on most modern cars, RPM's will not vary regardless of throttle position. This gives you the best fuel mileage, but lousy passing performance. For that you want to put the transmission in performance mode. You'll see high RPM's and big increase in acceleration.
    The only thing I want to add to the 2011 is a cruise control setup. I had that on my last two Harleys and I miss that more than anything else about them, a pair of Electra Glide Ultras. At 75yo I'm not able to balance a bike like I used to. 57 years of riding without an accident, and I plan on increasing that number!

    Have you ever maxed out the speed on this before? Been curious because I have a Honda silverwing 600 and the top speed I got on that was about 115 mph. I heard bergman's being a little bigger and heavier go a little slower than that maybe about 108-110.. can you vouch for that?

    • @BAtadCrazy
      @BAtadCrazy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ManCaveMayhem Yes. Standard and sport, but in standard mode I can shift into overdrive above 50 mph. A light comes on that indicates it's in overdrive. Interste travel is not a problem. At 70 mph it just hums with plenty of throttle left and power. I love my Burgman 650. Bought it new in 2007. No regrets. I too would call it a mini Goldwing. I would love a Goldwing, but I'm not a big person so that would not be practical.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say it would depend on the year and how well it was taken care of. My only concern would be the CVT belt and your ability to change it if you had to anything 2012 or later there were improvements made to the CVT belt. They’re all fun and reliable. I would just check it out really good before I bought it. of course price always plays a factor too👍🏻 I hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

    Love the Burgman, but wish there weren't issues the the CVT. Having said that, I have owned a couple, and the ONLY TIME I ever got in trouble with the po-po was on a burgman. Speeding, of course. They will go 100 mph easily with no vibration. I'm thinking about getting another one, but maybe one from 2013, when they say the cvt issue has been resolved.
