Calls like these make me realize my problems in life really aren't that bad.

Maybe, but that doesn’t make our problems disappear. Keep striving

First caller, don’t worry. Your kids are going to be ok because you are their father 💜

Thank you so much Dr. John. I have a gratitude journal. You’re example of a specific moment hit home! I had a manager plus my big sister(she flew from out of state) who came to the hospital and sat with me as I suffered from depression (PTSD) from an abusive x husband. This manager was like a big brother and he and my sister reinforced how I deserved so much better, was smart and would survive. I survived and will be forever grateful for their support. They are now in heaven and I miss them so much!

If the kids were with the dad, and he was dating someone with a criminal abusive past living in the house, the state would have IMMEDIATELY ripped the kids out of that home. But yeah…that’s “equality” for ya.

Im with u on that..i think both parents should be smart enough to protect their children first by getting a background check performed before any other person are around their children...period!!!! Women killing men children they already had too!

Gabb phones are awesome!!! Got a free one for Christmas two years for our kids and since we don’t have a home phone. It about 30 a month for service too. Look online for influencers with codes for discounts ❤️

So an Apple Watch with cell signal/own phone number can call/text and be controlled from an adults phone. Let’s the adult control access to internet, who’s in their contacts and who can actually message/call them

I'm saying this very lovingly, but it seems. She is as asdicted to her story as he was to his drugs and she needs rehab for it.❤

This is what happens when you live with parents who are drug and alcohol addicts, narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths.

I think 'man-child' sounds a lil better than just referring to the guitarist peter pan as child.

Password for a 9 and 6 year old feels like a stretch. Maybe the 9 but 6 may not be mature enough to use. Still better safe than sorry.

My mom gave me a password in 1st grade (6-7 years old) and told me if anyone came to pick me up, if they didn't know the password, then she did NOT send them, and NOT to get in the vehicle. I'm almost 50yrs old and still remember the password.
It was the name of my cat back then.
The convo made me more aware, so when I was followed home from school by a creepy guy, I was strategic in how I got home quickly and the path I took to stay safer.

Low quality pick for a boyfriend why even bother being his girlfriend? Date a guy who does not have abuse problems. A guy with abuse issues is like a cheater they both will never change or improve.

If these folks were Marines like me, they'd be used to moving wherever ordered. One year we lived in Japan where our daughter had a bedroom, we did, and our sons slept on the sunporch. So what? We were camping out for a year. I still remember it fondly. And I was executive officer of our squadron! My wife chose to host the unit Christmas party in that house and it was just fine. So to recall Bugs Bunny, "Unlax Fuddsy." You'll be OK.

These 2 calls n situations seem so different but like nearly all if the callers whos problems seem different from one another and often different than our own struggles at the end of the day they all come back to how people feel about themselves as this is what is driving their choices. The second caller is carrying a lot of shame that may have very little to do with being married (was it a marriage or a boyfriend? I forgot already) to an addict for 13 years before he died.I'm guessing she was still with him when he died but that wasnt 100% clear. Did she know he had a problem soon into their relationship like she does with this guy though the problem is certainly different? Or was she completely hooked n in love and married before his addiction became clear? Did she herself have a substance abuse problem or use recreationally for awhile? I can imagine possible childhood issues n surprised John didn't inquire. Its as though be thinks that jer relationship with the addict has impacted her choice with this man child. But maybe both were a manifestation of childhood issues or trauma. The reason i hear shame is tjat she didnt even want to say how old she was on an anonymous radio show with someone she called for advice. She said old enough to know better. She's obviously over 40 so why not just say. Yes she gives herself alot of credit for being able to take care of herself n him financially but like John said that is only one part of life. Does she have friends? Does she have family connections? There was no mention of kids. She didn't really want to get help or look at things in the past bc she thinks it will be painful n sje is right but she may not even understand why it will be bit it will only be more painful if she waits. O hope she takes John's advice but clearly she was just looking for advice on how to change him. I dont get the sense she is ready to do what John said but hopefully a seed was planted and if she is worried about hurting him which people often use as an excuse at least in part, she's doing him no favor either by enabling him. Speak to him lovingly and commend all bis good qualities and of course give him some time to find another place but call it quits.
