Hi Chase That was very interesting . The only part y'all lost me on was your winter and keeping warm in the winter . So what state down your way has a winter 😅😂
Hello Chase , I have been really busy and haven’t commented in a while, I have been watching your videos though. I also use the Traveler oil and add STP . Don’t know the zinc content of it, but it makes me feel better about the oil lubricity anyway. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts.
I'm not sure STP has any additives. I believe it's just a thickener like Lucas, helps older engines with blowby, oil use, and boost oil pressure a bit. I use a gallon of Lucas also.
I've been wondering what happens with longer oil change intervals. Lots of people say it's a bad idea... but nobody ever measures what happens. Congratulations , Chase, on doing a test to measure the effects. Seems that most manufacturer suggested oil change intervals aren't all that unreasonable even if they appear a bit long? :-)
One thing I notice is that the wear is not averaged over the distance travelled e.g ppm/1000 km which may mislead you into thinking that wear has increased when it hasn't (total wear is up but averaged wear is not). The idea is to figure out at what stage the wear starts to accelerate if the oil is not changed... and make sure you change the oil before that happens.
Wear analysis is the best way to identify which oils and additives work. The proof is often compelling. ...but very few people run enough analyses to figure out what works and what doesn't e.g. Synthetic oils are much better than miineral oils... with semi-synthetic being a good second best. :-)
Adding zinc to oil can actually increase wear if you add too much. Most additives do very little to reduce wear... but you'll never notice unless you do a before and after test. Ideally what you want in an additive is something that only needs a single application... and results in a 50~90% wear reduction. :-)
@kennethives2517 57 seconds ago My thought was if your adding oil an oil filter wouldn't add much cost but whole lot of cleaning ability@@LifeWithChase
@@kennethives2517 if I'm going through the trouble of bringing truck in, getting the truck up off the ground ,and getting covered in oil changing the filter. I'm changing the oil while I'm there.
Yep, have a few videos on it as well. It's made for diesel but does good with light oil like hydraulic oil and works ok with 15-40 as long as it's warm.
I've heard that and have added some gear oil in my old truck in a pinch but I've never seen anyone do any lab tests to see if there was any negative results of doing so. Some say that the additives don't mix well, others have done so for years with good results

Anything below 40f is winter 😂

@@LifeWithChase okay, I have used it for years, you are correct about older stuff , I have a lot of old stuff. Thanks again for your input
I have a 97 detriot diesel 12.7 60 series. How many ounces of zinc should I add? My zinc is reading around 1050 in the oil sample results.

I was curious also and couldn't find any videos of anyone testing it

When you added your "makeup oil" did you change your oil filter?
Nope

How about those results from Blackstone Labs?
I sent a sample in a couple weeks ago, haven't got the results yet.
Took 3-4 weeks. I think part of that is the postal service. Going idea if you get the tracking number then you can check and see when it arrives.
What oil are using?
Hey bud .. what brand pump
😂never mine it’s on your description

When I had a Cummins I used one gallon of 80W90 gear oil in place of one gallon of motor oil.
Seemed to work well for me.
