I was a registered nurse and worked primarily in aged care. Irma is 100% spot on. You have to keep moving. Not only the secret to better health in old age, but also to living long enough to enter old age. Walking is, by far, the best form of easily accessed exercise for this (swimming is possibly better because it uses more muscle groups, but not everyone has access to swimming). Good on you, Irma. You're an inspiration!
So right. I, too, am a retired RN and worked in aged care. The body is meant to move, and as you get older, you need to move more. Plus some interests and a garden. Loving family also helps. Go Irma! Gorgeous house BTW.
Hello David and Erica, thank you for your work - and I so agree with you. The women we film always have family and half the village/neighbourhood involved in their lives and exercise is built into their routine: walking to the shops, up the stairs (usually 3 flights). She's so beautiful, and so are her son and grandson. I also love her house with it's vibrant color and all the artwork on the walls. Who's the artist? Most of all I love the kindness and sweetness in her eyes and the Emilian accent which so reminds me of my father's family, also from the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano, but in the valleys south of Parma, not Modena. Some of the best, if not the best, food in Italy in Modena, imo.
I really love this old, handmade recipes. Only natural ingredients, food made with patience and love. And it tastes so much better than everything you can buy in a supermarket. I started making pasta from scratch some time ago and I love it. Irma is fantastic.
I f you try making pasta with a matarelo you will come to realize how elastic the dough is and how physical it is to keep stretching the dough until it is thin enough to make into tagliatelle. She's wonderful! Active, positive, exercises, has a little wine, makes fantastic food to feed the family. Who could ask for more?! Thanks for your wonderful video!
To think that Mrs. Irma lived through two centuries (20 and 21) and witnessed the Second World War, the construction of the Berlin Wall, and the arrival of man on the moon. It's wonderful! She arrives in the second half of the 21st century as a young centenarian lady. What a blessing.
Incredible woman, and the sparkle of humor and mischief in her eyes! She looks beautiful and so youthful, I must follow her advice to walk everyday and stay active, it seems to be the true secret of youth!

GOD BLESS THAT GRANNIE! She comes from good stock. How she can walk a kilometer every day, lift that big board and make pasta from scratch is beyond me and puts me to shame at 77. It must be the lifestyle out in the hills of Italy. 103! AMAZING!

I used to work in a nursing home. I did notice those who stayed active tend to live longer. Our oldest resident was 108. It was incredible and such a privilege to ever knew those centenarians. I learned so much from those people. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful grandma’s story to the world!

May God Bless You Always, you are an Amazing Strong Italian Woman❤️❤️❤️ & soooo Loving & Kind ✝️🇮🇹
Irma reminds me of my own grandmother. Always trying to be active. And especially with home cooking meals as much as possible. She would typically go out for a morning walk to check on the neighbors, make conversation, and soon a half a dozen elderly ladies and gentlemen would be laughing up a storm as they slowly walked around the neighborhood.
Irma is a beautiful treasure. The pictures of her are gorgeous. I feel very lucky to see a tiny slice if her life. The pasta looks gorgeous and I will make it for dinner soon❤
What an amazing woman. Her story is so inspiring. Having to take care of her family at 10 years old 🥺 she looks so happy and full of life despite what sounds like a difficult childhood. I would give anything to sit down and listen to her stories and wisdom. ❤
I know no Italian but a little bit of French. I believe Irma says "Allez allez" or something. So good to hear an elderly says something like that to the younger ones. Such an active grandma.
I am italian and to me Irma just said "Alè alè" which is a way to express joy or excitement, people often say that in football stadiums during choruses but it doesn't have any meaning in italian, you made me realize it probably is just "allez allez" italianized 😅
Need to use the legs, arms, hands and constantly keep moving to be able to do anything at old age! That's one mill to die for !!! Absolutely beautiful. And those eggs with the bright yolks to give that wonderful color to the pasta....
I’m constantly reminded that it’s about the pasta not the sauce. Here you never see the noodles drenched in sauce masking the nuttiness of the wheat and the richness of the egg yolks….splendid Vicky as usual!
I loved every minute of this video. Amazing how at this age she still makes the best pasta ever. Irma was a joy watch . Her sunny smile lit up her beautiful kitchen, so full of colour, character and exquisitely maintained. It must be heaven to live in such a place , with fields and flower hedges stretching as far as the eye can see. Irma I wish you good health and good cheer. Thank you Pasta Grannies for taking us to Irma's home.
When you said “the spoja is ready” I could feel my grammy and nanny (grand and great-grand mothers). They would always greet us with Green Spoja after our drive from Alabama to their home on Cape Cod. I have never heard that word outside their home in videos and I was sooo happy to finally hear it again!

This reminded me of hanging out with my grandmother who lived to be 97. ... Amazing browsing through old photo albums. Makes me want to chuck my digital cameras and start printing pictures like in the old days. The fresh ground flour and the fresh eggs, the fresh air, and most of all her incredible spirit is what keeps this woman so young! Just adore her! Thank you for this. Blessings
I’m in awe of this lady. If I ever met her I’d ask her about her life and the wisdom and knowledge she has gained. They key to longevity is organic, homemade food and a smile 😊

GOD BLESS THAT GRANNIE! She comes from good stock. How she can walk a kilometer every day, lift that big board and make pasta from scratch is beyond me and puts me to shame at 77. It must be the lifestyle out in the hills of Italy. 103! AMAZING!
She seems like an incredibly sweet lady.
Irma’s finished sfoglia looked so light and delicate I could feel my mouth watering just looking at it!!! She is so beautiful and her smile could light up a room!! I hope she is with us next year so we an see her smile again! 🤗♥️🍝
Many blessings to Irma and her family and community. I admire her style. Vicki, I'm in tears with this one and it may be my favourite. I made this kind of pasta for years when we lived on homestead in the 70's and 80's. Thank you to All.
Irma and her lovely smile. Such a good granny vibe. Simple dish but look and probably taste delicious.
Irma is inspirational! One of the best parts of Friday is Pasta Grannies.
I used to work in a nursing home. I did notice those who stayed active tend to live longer. Our oldest resident was 108. It was incredible and such a privilege to ever knew those centenarians. I learned so much from those people. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful grandma’s story to the world!
Irma is amazing. The strength she has. This is one of the best Pasta Grannies ever. Irma’s a real pasta grannie. 103 a miracle.
God Bless this Beautiful woman🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻 She had a hard life but still kept going & being stronger & stronger every day,a true inspiration to soooo many❤️🇮🇹🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 I can’t wait to make her pasta, it looks amazing!!!!! May God Bless You Always, you are an Amazing Strong Italian Woman❤️❤️❤️ & soooo Loving & Kind ✝️🇮🇹
"I'm 103 and I'm still making tagliatelle": the dream.
That's a great memory, thank you for sharing it. best wishes, Vicky
Irma is a beautiful treasure. The pictures of her are gorgeous. I feel very lucky to see a tiny slice if her life.
The pasta looks gorgeous and I will make it for dinner soon❤
Her smile is infectious! What a wonderful woman. The pasta looks absolutely incredible!
Best regards from Hong Kong, wishing you a very long life Mama Irma!
What an amazing woman. Her story is so inspiring. Having to take care of her family at 10 years old 🥺 she looks so happy and full of life despite what sounds like a difficult childhood. I would give anything to sit down and listen to her stories and wisdom. ❤
I just love Irma! She's a total doll!😊 This is a great one Vick!😊❤
Wonderful episode. Health and happiness Irma!
Now that's a pasta granny! Looks great for 103 years young. That tagliatelle and the sauce is delicious.
Need to use the legs, arms, hands and constantly keep moving to be able to do anything at old age! That's one mill to die for !!! Absolutely beautiful. And those eggs with the bright yolks to give that wonderful color to the pasta....
A big hug to Irma, she is such an inspiration... and the tagliatelle looked amazing!
Almost as amazing as her grandson!
Her skin 🤯 she’s gorgeous! The joy she derives from simple things 😍
Truth, beauty, life! The single best 'cooking' channel on Earth. Grazie.
Double thank you hearts from me! I am so pleased you think Pasta Grannies is the best. 💕 best wishes, Vicky
Grew up around many Italians so reminds me of Home. Pasta so easy to make. Ppl don't realize. Enjoyed it very much. 🍒
I’m constantly reminded that it’s about the pasta not the sauce. Here you never see the noodles drenched in sauce masking the nuttiness of the wheat and the richness of the egg yolks….splendid Vicky as usual!
A lot of Italians don't like "oversauced" pasta and find it nauseating
That's very true Peter, let the pasta shine! Also it's a great way of making precious ingredients go further. 🙂🌺 best wishes, Vicky
She Deserves 103 Hearts! ❤
I love Irma… bless her, may she live many more happy and active years!
Watching this with all that's going on in the US literally it feels like a movie- it's so beautiful and simple yet elegant in this amazing way. A rural life but elegant. And family. I am transported by this channel! Thank you
"if she doesn't use them [her legs], they stop working" As someone with chronic health problems, even at 30yo, this is incredibly true. Keep moving, Nonna!
This old lady is my new idol.
I love the mother-and-son relationship. Both are old people, but so lovely to watch!
What is sfoglia? Great video not just for the cooking. What a blessing to do this work and meet and eat with these people. Now I am blessed to find your channel. Thank you
This reminded me of hanging out with my grandmother who lived to be 97.
I couldn't keep my eyes off the paintings and photos hanging everywhere--I'd love to sit and listen to her talk about each and every one of them and the memories associated with them.
