I know, right? I took care of a 92 year old guy and cooked for him. He got cranky because I heated the oven to bake two potatoes. He made me use the toaster oven to save energy, so like 4 hours later our potatoes were done. But he’s right. The Great Depression lasted 12 years. Now people can’t wear a few layers of cloth over their faces for a couple years or figure out how to survive on less. It’s a shame. Our grandparents were strong and resilient!

This episode brings me back to my own ancestry...my grandfather ended up on the Russian front as well. He went to jail twice because he crossed the Italian-French border to be with my grandmother, got deported, and the third time they sent him to war. Right when the axis turned on the Russian, he was caught in between. He lost 80% of his lung capacity because of combat gases and saw things he would not tell. This is the best pasta granny video so far. One that not only celebrates food but a person who's lived through a century worth of human history! This is gold.
Just beautiful. Concettina looks so much younger than her 101 years, and is sharp as a tack. They had so little, but were grateful for it. I sure hope the kids today understand that life wasn't always so easy.
"Easy" compared to what? Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Concettina had a good father and good husband, loving children and grandchildren, and she has her health, mind, and functioning body. They might have been poor, but they had a home and a garden, enough to eat. Not everyone is blessed with that. My now 85 years old mother has Alzheimer's, and she lost the ability to use her hands to knit and sew, which was what she loved most, when she was 65.
She's SO BEAUTIFUL, even now! Not only when she was young. You can't but adore her, those delicate gnarled hands, that fatalistic acceptance, her lovely face (look at that bone structure! 😍 I wish I was an artist, beautiful!), her spirit and quick brain... WOW!

God, I'm in tears... It's just like everything they ask her, even the most innocent theme, and in a positive way, the answers of her life are riddled with pain and sorrow. Fuck war and fuck bad people! I wish her all the inner peace in this world. She had suffered soo much T_T
That's what puzzled me. Usually people who grow to such an old age are always positive, despite many negative experiences in their lives. She seems to only remember the negative things, and yet she's still so strong at 101. Makes me doubt the connection between positive outlook and a long life. Or maybe she's just an outlier.
I love her so much. She reminds me so much of the Italian mamma who has meant so much to me and my life. Peppina was also Calabrian. The translations aren’t exact. They kind of soften the things she’s saying. She’s saying life has been very hard and giving stories about it. I want to say that honestly in a time when I’m going through so much it actually gives me hope that she has survived it all even when it has been so difficult and painful. When she spoke of the pain she meant internal. She also has a joyful face. The woman speaking to her speaks with a lot of love and care. I think this series is incredible, so valuable and precious. Italy is home in my heart, and I miss it every day.
This is the first pasta grannies video that's made me cry. Wow! She's a 101 year old spitfire. I love to hear more of both their background and stories. The history they could tell....
I visited Naples this summer and yes the food was amazing. To cook and bake pasta yourself is so tasty and is even better with your own garden veggies. Great respect to this elderly pair my father died when he was 87 few years back and he said also to me to be grateful for everything 🙂
My paternal grandfather was on the Swedish Norwegian border during the war. I used to love sitting in the kitchen listening to my grandmothers stories. She would have been 103 this year. What a beautiful episode, even in tough times, people’s faith keeps them going.
Hello Kate
Kathy
🤗
God, I'm in tears... It's just like everything they ask her, even the most innocent theme, and in a positive way, the answers of her life are riddled with pain and sorrow. Fuck war and fuck bad people! I wish her all the inner peace in this world. She had suffered soo much T_T
That's what puzzled me. Usually people who grow to such an old age are always positive, despite many negative experiences in their lives. She seems to only remember the negative things, and yet she's still so strong at 101. Makes me doubt the connection between positive outlook and a long life. Or maybe she's just an outlier.
I hope she a displayed a bit more positivity throughout life, like when raising children and such. Otherwise, those poor kids.
RIP Concettina! Thanks for sharing with us.
God bless this precious woman
Buongiorno sono studente di Italiano i tuoi video mi ricordano la mia infanzia con mia Nonna, vivo a Brasile.Baci a tutte le Nonne.
This series has been such a blessing to me but for the first time, this particular episode made me cry.
This is the first pasta grannies video that's made me cry. Wow! She's a 101 year old spitfire. I love to hear more of both their background and stories. The history they could tell....
"Be thankful for everything". Words to live by
I visited Naples this summer and yes the food was amazing.
My favourite time was when her friends came over, we would have coffee and biscuits and I would just love listening to all their memories. 💝💝💕💕
This makes me so happy! Watching from my home in Hawaii. What a gift to hear from these people and see this recipe. I can’t believe Concettina is 101, she looks incredible 😍
Hello Ginny
isnt the dr with the starch solution did some investigation into longevity in hawaii? he noticed in his patients that the old generation had no health issue but the young one did...then he traced it back to carbs:).
LOVE this!!!! My grandma's family is from Italy, moved to America in 1908, Great Grandma was a Turco Great Grandpa was a Circo and lot's of cousin from the De luca's, Caniglia's and more. Love listening to her, she reminds me of my grandma Nettie, bless her soul, would so love to visit Italy, that was my grandma's dream to go back one day, she never made it. :(
Dear Pasta Grannies crew, thank you for amazing videos. Besides that as a subscriber i would like to see more human stories like this on your channel. I think this makes your channel very authentic and different among all food channels on TH-cam. Thanks again from a pasta lover ❤
hi Müge, I am pleased to hear you enjoyed this video. Not everyone wants to talk about their life, and we don't like to push for information. But when our signore want to share, we try to include it in the video. 😊🌺 best wishes, Vicky
@@pastagrannies Thank you ❤
i wanna meet these ladies and give them the world, people from her generation and also from a wee bit later generations are our greatest treasures, we should learn from 'em
What remarkable stories and people. My father was in the war (USA) for 4 years stationed in France. He would be 105 if he were alive today.
I just love all the old senior cooks, true lady mama's deserving our love and respect being able to still cook. When they are gone we will all swear no one can cook it better than mama, big mama, Nanna, Nonna, me-mamas etc.
Aww, I 💕 love this grumpy little nonna! So feisty, and she looks great! Life may not of been kind to her but the world is a better place with her in it! Italy is my favorite country, Viva Italia! ❤️ from 🇨🇦 (I am suddenly very hungry for pasta 🍝)
I can feel her pain ...she has been through so much. God Bless Her, I hope she can forgive and remain as happy as she can for the rest of her days. What a wise and amazing person, and amazing cook!
"Be thankful for everything." Excellent advice.
These videos are each a treasure.
It’s amazing see something like that, 101 with this disposition... I’m surviving with 29 😅
A long video, with long lived people. So much to tell us about their pasts. This video has left me feeling somewhat morose, but in a good way. I'm thankful for the information, and these wonderful recipes.
She's an energetic woman, God bless her!
"Be thankful for everything." Thank you for leaving us with those wise words, Biagio.
She's 101! She looks no more than 75! Love her :)
Best pasta granny video so far! ❤️
And the ending was so beautiful as well!❤️
Tears in my eyes. They've seen so much.
"Be thankful for everything."
He's so right.
Actually he just said “Thank you everyone” 😂
@@dagliocchibui that's what he said, you're right. but it would have been better not to spoil the magic, I think. anyhow, you gave it away. can't be undone.

My granny lived to 112 and I thank god everyday that she died relying on noone’s help. She walked on her own, and was able to walk miles if she wanted to. God bless her soul
8:09. This is a great example ! Don't waste things !
There is so much to learn from these beautiful grandmothers.
Oh so so so sweet! No fast food in her tummy!!
I just want to give this granny a hug! She reminds me so much of my grandmother, who I miss so much. Just watching her hands handling the flour and dough and I'm in tears.
A hard working lady, she gives always her best and love to her family.
Congratulations from Andi🇩🇪

Hello Robin
Ms. Vicky, what a lovely lady & a gentleman, both 101 yrs old, wow, these are folks i like to sit & talk with as they have so much & have knowledge & wisdom, & they have seen things i've never seen, i just love hearing their stories although some are sad. Concettina was already appx. 43 when i was born, i'm 58, unreal. This is a delicious recipe, but i have never heard of it, but i'd eat it., God bless everyone
hi Steve, yes and the world has changed so much in their lifetimes. best wishes, Vicky
@@pastagrannies Ms. Vicky, yes it is very different, for me also as there were no cell phones, computers, etc...when i was in school, technology has passed me by, God bless you & everyone
Her story broke my heart. What a beautiful strong woman. X
This channel is something special. Watching this lovely ladies cooking and telling stories about their lives.. it makes you feel good. Thanks Vicky!
hi Luca, it's my pleasure! best wishes, Vicky
This was a very special video. Well done!
Two very special people. Salt of the earth of Italia 🇮🇹
God bless them 🙏🏻❤️
What a lovely, beautiful lady.. She only used one piece of paper towel, like my mother in law (R.I.P.) Because it's just enough. Young generation need to learn from them..
Ah, I'm so sad to hear you have both left us but thanks for allowing me to meet you xx
un bel video, onestamente adoro Lei sensa di la veritá senza paura. Una lezione del historia ed un glimpse al loro vite pieno di tanti emozioni, grazie molto per questo PG :)
When i see the old Lady with her shaking hands it makes me cry because It remembers me of my dead grandmother, making me some good Food when I was a kid.
What an amazing and beautiful woman. She reminded me of my mom. My mom used to save plastic wrap and reuse it. This episode was a bit sad and a real eye opener to appreciate all that we have, especially during these trying times. Their lives were hard lived, but they’re still appreciative of what they have. The best episode so far. I love hearing about their lives as well as seeing a bit of their region. Well done!
Hello Angie
Hello 🤗
her devotion to her husband is so touching
These videos give me such good spirits and hope that I can go back to Italia soon. Thank you for posting these❤️
She’s so adorable. She’s trying telling US her “Story.” Hardships, family experiences, losses….
Out there on the balcony; talk of her late Husband, seemed to touch her even today! Of course a women who has endured so much, I imagine doesn’t brake easily.
The recipe was just the “icing on the cake.” She herself is the “gift!”
What an elegant lady & a beautiful friend.
Bravo! Mama Mia! I love Italy!
💘 love 💘❤💕♥💖💗💘❤💕
Lake di Garda region- find some pasta grannies here, please.
Hello Sandra
Biagio & Concertina, thankyou for your generosity. Watching this video was a greater joy to me than watching a new Hollywood Movie. Bless you both
Oh what an episode! And such amazing PROTAGONISTS! ❤️ To everyone!
