PUNDA MARIA & PAFURI - Lost in Kruger Episode 1

  • In the first episode of our Lost in Kruger series we explore the far north of the park.
    The area around Punda Maria and Pafuri is not particularly known for its sightings, but there are some unique species that you won’t find in the rest of the park, and it’s incredibly beautiful!
    In this episode we almost miss the gate, we get caught in the middle of a breeding herd of elephants, and Bianca jumps into the back of the car when she was meant to be driving! Haha!
    I missed my self imposed deadline, but only by a little so I hope you don’t mind.
    Please let us know what you think and tune in again next week Thursday for Episode 2 in Sirheni as we continue our 7 week journey south down the park!

    P.S. Have you seen the KrugerExplorer App? Our favourite spot, we love Punda Maria, it's like the camps used to be 30 years ago. Pafuri is magical. I don't think you mentioned Crook's Corner but you can't go that far north and not visit. We had to cancel our holiday this year, so this is as close as we'll get. Can't wait for the next episode.

      I absolutely love Crooks Corner Ray, unfortunately we had to skip it this time, should have had lunch in the car, but I also can't say no to that picnic site!

    Really enjoyed watching this. I will be entering through Punda Maria Gate next year for the first time. I just booked the flights for my 4th time at Kruger & it's always special. We are staying in Punda Maria for a night and I am excited how the Camp and the surrounding nature (and of course sightings) is. Watching this makes me hop on that plane right now! Any roads around Punda Maria that we could skip cause of "nothing to see"? We might head a bit up north but not all the way to Pafuri because our 2nd night will be at Shingwedzi Camp! :)

    • @LostinAfrica
      @LostinAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The pafuri river road to crooks corner is well worth a visit, if you leave camp nice and early you can do it, and still make it to Shingwedzi pretty easily! This part of the park has fewer sightings generally, but it’s so beautiful i still love it! Enjoy your trip!!

    Great episode. Question, what window equipment are you using to help stabilise your lens? We're planning on a trip to SA and the Kruger in October and am currently looking for different solutions that don't require most of the door for stabilisation. So far I have found what is called StediLens Stabiliser.

    • @LostinAfrica
      @LostinAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Noelleen, this is constantly changing. At the moment I have changed again to the GimPro door mount, but is a big expensive cumbersome solution, the stability is unmatched though. Before this I was using a magnetic system that is no longer sold unfortunately. We are looking to develop our own system from all that we have learnt not being happy with anything on the market, so keep an eye on our socials for an announcement on that.
