  • When school budgets are tight, art programs often find themselves on the chopping block. Today's definition of arts education has evolved considerably from what it once was. Today's art programs encompass a wide array of disciplines - from fine arts to digital media, from music to landscape architecture - and are encouraging creative thinking, problem solving, and healthy emotional development, among other things. In fact, studies show that students who have strong exposure to the arts do better academically and are more satisfied in school, making art education a vital component in any well-rounded curriculum.
This Nebraska Loves Public Schools film looks at various art programs across the state and the positive impact they have on thousands of public school students each year. From elementary-age kids learning to ballroom dance to slam poetry competitions and creative music education, see how children benefit when schools make the arts matter.

Because of the Arts...I became interested in history, philosophy, and cultures..... I appreciated maths and sciences which are boring for me before..... I saw the beauty and connection of math and physics with things such as proportions, perspectives, colors, and light to how our psychology works.......I became more open-minded, controlled, seeking virtue, listen to various opinions and ideas, be spontaneous, and solve problems in different ways than just one formula and one solution...... It opened my disciplines not just in drawing, painting, sculpting, and installations but also to apply my visual skills in theater and short film making.....I also became a scriptwriter and production manager for our short films...... I became an assistant director and designer in our role plays in classroom......I also got interested in Japanese manga drawing and cartooning.....I also became interested in fiction writing and poetry...... I also became interested now in music and I want to learn an instrument..... I learned to love musicals and plays and the collaborative experience with it........ Before I am so shy, but arts made me confident and helped me with interpersonal skills....... I also loved art history and got interested in art education itself as well as the preservation and promotion of our cultures and traditions...........Without the arts, my doors would still be all closed and my mind would so linear.......... and now I am planning to continue my journey in Fine Arts or Theater Arts or maybe Film or even Art Education itself...... I can't still decide. Before I am really on to sciences, making my relatives asking me what do I want to be? a nurse, a doctor, an engineer, a scientist?..... but now, I want to be an artist and teach the arts.

An art teacher once said to me, "Be wary of the person with only one idea." This is great.

I am writing a persuasive speech and presenting it to my class on Why the arts are important and shouldn't be ignored. This helped!
