  • Bob and Roberta Smith RA, patron of The Big Draw and NSEAD, on why all schools should be art schools.
    "Art is a fundamental tool for expression and empowerment.'
    Everything that is made has been designed and constructed by creative people. Bob points out that the camera, the building and even the 'lunatic' that made his shirt, were all created by drawing, designing and making art.
    Bob and Roberta Smith was interviewed by Amy Clancy on behalf of The Big Draw and NSEAD.

    As someone who codes and draws I disagree that coding and art should be taught together. Art is a far more sophisticated and important subject than coding and to lump the two to gather would hinder any artistic endeavour.

    And as Henry Moore said 'To teach drawing is to teach noticing." might have paraphrased that but that's what he meant.

      Evelyn Rowland Drawing certainly helps us observe and appreciate the world more. We believe it's as important as written literacy.

    As a mother of a boy in Year 1 and a University teacher of film, I agree wholeheartedly with the important message here: the arts matter (and it starts from birth). Schools must make this an integral part of their mission. I would also welcome a less rigid divide between Arts & Sciences, and KS1 is probably the best time to do that, as later on lots of basic skills have to be learnt and that contributes towards the artificial separation of arts and sciences.

    Art should be taught at all schools too because it is a profession like any other!

      James Abell We believe art links together all the subject sin the curriculum. There aren't many tools like drawing that you can use to both convey practical information and to express emotion.

    We would still be living in caves if our ancestors hadn't started drawing on the walls!

    Art classes on schools are getting worse and worse, especially in small schools where budgeting is mainly promoting sports. We have 2,000 sports teams but one arts class with low quality(old) supplies. Not to mention it’s in the elementary building. The high school doesn’t even have an arts class. It’s all really sad to me, and all of that is the same with the music class. No choir, no actual singing, just nine keyboards and 20 people in the class.

    That's why they wanted to remove art classes at one time from American schools "destroy creativity" conform no critical thinking aloud. I think ART should be mandatory not an elective in school.

  • @cutiemalu3602

    But why do we really need art class in schools when there's like only 20% of people who will actually use it or be an artist

  • @threesixty2408
    @threesixty2408 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think it's pointless. How many will go on to be professional artist? very little and I'm an artist myself.
