The fact that Vinny looked around a bit more at the end and then asked for more about the game meant he definitely enjoyed it. I'm super looking forward to him playing more runs of this on occasion. It's my favorite horror game of this year and I'm excited to see more updates for it as well.

It looks really good honestly. Makes me think about Organ Trail, that's another game that's a little 'rogue-ish' like this, and it has pretty damn good replay value.

Definitely not a Junji Ito's work but it's eeriely similar I think the stalker in that story i mentioned did die in pipe, but often the stalked victim would feel uncomfortable around the kitchen sink. It's almost as if someone was watching her through the sink hole. The said stalker is also blackmailing the victim lady with her 'suggestive' pictures captured by him. Cool story, i wish i could find it again

The games contained disturbing elements such as when Schezo(a dark magician, bad with words and described as a pervert) is decapitated(only in the PC-9801 version), but he is still able to fight due to his magic, or when Arle’s kindergarten classmates’ faces melt. Most of the characters would then go on to continue their stories and adventures in Puyo Puyo, a spin-off series that is still around today. Other characters have stories or traits that could be perceived as disturbing or creepy by some, like Rulue being in love with Dark Prince(Satan in Japan), and Dark Prince being in love with Arle, or how in 20th Anniversary, Lemres goes into a dangerous withdrawal without sweets, and how Feli uses his withdrawal to her advantage, where she talks about doing anything she pleases with him, like going on a date, but it soon seems she wants much worse as she then attempts to force Lemres to eat a cake filled with salt, which would’ve likely made his withdrawal much worse. The games mainly remained in Japan and most still do, but there are a few games released worldwide and localized.

Yup, only the PC-98 games were like that though AFAIK - except for the melting kids, they stay the same in most ports for some reason. The other ports were generally much tamer and are fan-translated (probably because PC-98 is not well-known in the West).
When Vinny was first buying items, and he got the compass on his first roll, I was sitting here chanting "buy the compass, buy the compass", and then he bought the goddamn camera! Just so everyone is aware, the compass is a really good item, especially the earlier you can get it; it gives you extra exp every time you explore, and you explore a lot in this game, allowing you to level up faster
I like coming back to this playlist every year around now, during Spooky Season™ and doing a few runs in the game myself. It's the perfect mood for Halloween.

I love these aesthetics a lot, they're a cool example of a sort of minimalism, a limited resolution, with a limited number of shades, using dithering smartly for added shading.
Have been watching World of Horror's growth since I played an early version at PAX South 2017, and it's awesome to finally see Vinny give it a go. The game's changed a lot over the years, and its Discord seems pretty large because of how active the community is. Looking forward to future playthroughs
Honestly watched the first twelve or so minutes and that was enough to get me interested enough to buy the game. Can confirm that it is really cool and worth the purchase if you like 80s Japan stuff, Lovecraft, Junji Ito, retro gwafix, and roguelikes.
The peephole mechanic is so reminiscent of Silent Hill 4, people say its bad but imho its one of the best in the series. Hopefully Vinny gets back into Silent Hill sometime in the future.

I honestly think this is a lot better than Dark Seed, because Dark Seed's entire gameplay is to memorize and carry out an exact route after trial and errorring the game over and over, a lot of the puzzles are just nonsense.
This game has a lot of great potential already, but it could really use some creepy battle music, especially when facing named monsters like Aka Manto.

It's a rudimentary tool, but if you have a good idea and good workflow, you can do amazing stuff with it.

I remember playing this game at pax this year, it was weird and I loved it
This game is really cool, I see why people wanted vin to play it so bad
It reminds me of those Cthulhu themed board games where you are racing against time and insanity to defeat an old god (can't remember any of the names of those games...). Kinda has a little Hand of Fate too, with the set up phase
The visuals are excellently stylish and striking, though it does seem to add a learning curve to using the menus
Might have to pick this up at some point honestly
The music in this game is sick.
