  • Walk around of my 1969 Ford Mustang 390 Fastback. First cold start in the morning. Ended up taking it out of the garage to do some interior work. I finished up the restoration about a year and a half ago but have lots of odds and ends to finish up.
    The exhaust sound is brought to you by a Pypes 2.5" kit with Race Pro mufflers. I had Street Pro, but they were too loud for my neighborhood...

    Sweet build. Always liked the jade color. I owned a ‘70 Mach 1 back in 1973-75. Car was lime green metallic with rear slats and deluxe white interior. Car was a looker but not much of a runner as it had the base 351W 2 bbl and FMX auto. I did a few bolt ons such as headers, dual exhaust, off dual plane with a 600 Holley. I put in 3.91 rear gears so it was decently quick up to about 40 but then I got left in the dust. Back then there was almost no aftermarket support for either the Windsor nor the FMX.

    • @SmackeysGarage
      @SmackeysGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dan, thank you! I really like the lime green metallic color too. It must have looked great with the white deluxe interior. I like the white interiors, but they must be so hard to keep clean. How did you like the 3.91 gears? I’m debating which ratio to go with right now.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmackeysGarage- It was a real looker for sure. I don’t recall the interior being that hard to keep clean but hey, I was a kid right? The 3.91’s were actually a bit too low for normal street driving. It would run over 3000 RPM on the highway (65) with the short 14” rim and tire. If it’s just a weekend fun car then a steep gear might be ok but not for a daily driver which mine was back then.

    • @SmackeysGarage
      @SmackeysGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dan Myers that is what I have been debating. Will the 3.91 be too low for regular cruising. The car gets driven maybe once a week for a ride and once to a show. Most of the shows I take the highway. Cruising with a big block at high rpm on the highway gets loud. I might calculate it at whatever rpm it will be at 55 and then go see what it sounds like.
