    Nice alliteration during your intro!
    I'm in love with Ontario now! What a rockhounder's dream!
    I rockhound in southwest New Mexico near Deming.
    I'm working fire agates from Deer Creek right now, but would love to get back north where you can reach into crevasses without fear of scorpions, rattlers, spiders, etc.
    Thanks to your buddy and you for taking us along.

      meMiner Back in ‘78 I had my first tour of duty in Northern Maine. 40 years and many ocean crossings later, I still pine for that vast beautiful cold north, moose, snow, and invigorating lifestyle.
      By the way...as an Arkansas girl crystal collector of bygone days the term for clear quartz is rock crystal quartz. The larger, clearer, more defined terminating points increase the value considerably. Wish I still had some of my childhood stash!
      I love listening to your voice and watching your face light up. It’s like watching a child in a candy store or seeing the Aurora Borealis the first, second, third, fourth.....

    Thanks for this rockhounding video. And I have to say that this revealed some findings.
    Here, where I live, in the south of Norway(Lindesnes), I have discovered 12 old abandoned Feldspar mines. And found large feldspar crystals as long as a human arm, in solid Quartz boulders . Somewhat similar to yours. And Muscovite, Biotite, Molybdenum, Beryl, Pyrite and Uraninite, which no one hides under the bed, because it is radioactive ... :)

      Sounds like a wonderful place to explore and probably a pegmatite. Keep your eyes open for zircon and smokey quartz near the radioactives.

    I grew up in Nebr. In the creeks an river,there in the creek it was a where I got started in looking for various things one thing lead to a nother. I ve found camel teeth cave bear tooth prehistoric buffalo historic buffalo and a rino jawbone which the teeth were opolised. Now all are musiums in Nebr. I've also have found artifacts early woodland through Mississippian. I was lucky enough to have a arkaolagist take me and teach me. Well that's enough for tonight we take more later.

    Dude, there appears to be some very nice crystal minerals combination specimens there. Why not take in the proper tools and get busy there? I'd love to dig there. The things that the old diggers left behind laying on the ground indicates there must be some fine specimens that have been found in the past. I'd go crazy on that place if I were you!

    Will that titanite cut and polish up good? It's a cool mineral. Wish I could get my hands on a few pieces.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few years ago, I sent a couple of pieces to a friend in Sweden (eucitizen on Treasurenet) who is an expert in such matters. He said it was too soft for jewelry. As such, it is just a cool looking specimen for collecting. I especially like when it is in a cluster with other crystals.

    • @timjokela3350
      @timjokela3350 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Titanite is a fine gem when it's clear, but we don't get facet-grade in Ontario. The cleavage makes it hard if not impossible to cut cabochons, which would only be dark brown-black anyways.

      It is a good idea, but difficult to do in practice. Humping water around, along with tools and camera is not easy when alone. I don't have a good solution other than wash them up afterwards, but am open to suggestions. Maybe I can put a water vest on Daisy?

    Hey I live in Oregon. I love your videos. Would be fun to go hunting!. Just bought an awesome tile saw. Do you have any tips on hand polishing?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made some videos slicing stones and hand polishing with wet sandpaper. I liked using 100 grit to remove any evidence of the cutting wheel. Then I use progressively finer grits and the polish really starts at about 1500 grit. I got some sandpaper up to 7000 and that does a great job. When using the fine sandpaper, keep it clean with rinsing so you don't scratch. And let the weight of the rock press down. Good luck!

    I often hear people speaking very highly of titanite. Is it an expensive/rare mineral?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is somewhat common near Bancroft, Ontario. It can be found in other places in the world but is relatively uncommon, so therefore has good value to collectors.

    How do you spell anthibol? Never heard of it

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes, the way I say things is weird. eg. "aboot" vs "about". It is spelled amphiboie. In this case, most of it is a form of Fluororichterite.

      The simple answer is to treat all rocks like mushrooms. Assume they can harm you if you are unsure.

    Which minerals shall I looking for on a place of Oilshales and Limestone?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would look for pyrtie in the Oilshales and in the limestone look for vugs containing fossil coral, calcite crystals, galena, fluorite, etc.

      Daisy jumped off a cliff down by Lake Ontario...trying to go for a swim. She didn't break anything, but there is some kind of damage. I have meds for her from the vet to help with the pain, plus special food and monthly shots.

    A dumb question here. You made a video of dissolving calcite from silver. You can't do that with crystal can you, seems like it would dissolve the quartz crystals also. Am I correct???

      A dumb question is the one you don't ask.....

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quick answer is carbonate minerals (eg. calcite) are generally affected by most acids and silicas (eg. quartz) are not. There are some acids that will dissolve silica, but not the ones that people would generally use outside of a lab. Heck, some minerals will dissolve with water. So you have to know what you are dealing with or sacrifice a sample. If you search up "mineral solubility table", there is some great info online.

    We are not suppsed to have blue clay can you tell me what I might find....I have found orange and blue crystal rocks awesome...How to get a claim???? Can you make a claim on state property????

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The regulations on claims change from province to province and state to state. I have only owned claims in British Columbia (Canada). I don't know much about the rules in the US. There should be good info online if your search it up for your area.

    • @loyalkuhn5778
      @loyalkuhn5778 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kristin, Diamonds are typically found in clay pipes in the throat of extinct volcanoes. In the US, you may file a claim with the BLM for the mineral rights if it is public land. If the land is private, perhaps you could negotiate an arrangement with the owner, or purchase the land outright after ensuring the mineral rights transfer with the ownership.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Muriatic Acid...but you have to be careful with it. I like to dilute it with water. Don't use it inside, mix it with any other chemicals, breathe the fumes or get any in your eyes or on your skin. (ie. look up how to use it safely before experimenting with it). You can buy it at big box stores or swimming pool supply stores.

    That four by barely fits in your truck bed, did you measure the truck bed before you bought it?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The prior truck was a Chev Avalanche and the truck bed was so narrow that the wheels on both sides rubbed. In this truck, the ATV hangs out the back a bit eh? I have a trailer, but it is nicer to drive without towing. The big issue is driving at night because the weight in the back raises my headlights. Next truck will be larger.

    what do you do with the crystals ?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The big rock is still on my steps getting washed by the rain. I will probably cut it down and try to recover a cluster as a shelf specimen. The smaller clusters and individual crystals for now will go into a labeled box.
