WHAT, no Daisy! Told you , mind your fingers, I prefer the chocolate ones. That saw does cut extremely well. Ahh, gypsum, brings back so many memories from when I was a kid, the quarry was only a twenty minute bike ride from home, what fun we had there. The strange thing is no one was allowed in there unless you were an employee and there weren't many of them, yet almost every house for a radius of several miles had some form of gypsum in the front garden, rockery or path border, Boulders like billowed clouds either side of the entrance door, but not one person had taken any from the quarry, strange thing don't you think. Nice specimens, they all looked good even the damaged ones. Niagara Falls, ok so who turned the water off.
I probably could have brought Daisy to this site, but wasn't sure. It was too hot to leave her in the truck, so she stayed at home. She was not happy about that. Funny about locals having nice garden rocks. It is the same around Niagara Falls. It seems everybody landscapes with limestone blocks but forget where they got them. ;-) Niagara Falls is also the name of the city. The limestone escarpment runs for 725 KM in Ontario and extends into the USA.
meMiner Yea, but you said the escarpment runs 725 km in Ontario and continues on into the USA, I understand an escarpment is a slope or higher area of ground, so it's length runs into the states and the water falls off the side, ta daaa. I rest my geographical case lol.
It is almost a year since I watched my forst rockhounding vid and you were the first one I watched. I have learned so much from your shows and I thank you. When you introduce a mineral I have not seen I get out my books and learn more. Thanks for posting. Havagudun brother.
Awesome adventure beautiful crystals the combination ones sweet pyrite to sweet the finger 😂😂 I did he same one not long ago table saw awesome thanks be safe and thanks for taking the time with the videos
This was a video that almost didn't happen. I forgot to charge the battery on one camera and left the memory card for the other one at home (not interchangeable). I liked the rocks so much that I just used my iphone. ;-)
The vug at the 7:45 point of the video is beautiful, I live about an hour and a half away from this site so I'll be jumping on my bike and hopefully hitting up this awesome spot . Nice video Greig , thanks for sharing.
I went back to the video to see what "bug" I had missed during editing. There were a few ladybugs around that day, but I didn't recall seeing one on camera. So you got me. ;-)
Fingers and Selenite make for an interesting Sunday...lol...Seriously I love stick selenite..have pieces all over the house..purchased of course..would be nice to find it in the matrix, cool video as usual.
Those are some awesome crystals. I almost didn't recognize the Selenite as the samples I have are chatoyant. Looks like a great day of fun !! Would love to go on a field trip myself. I've got serpentine and nickle ore mix to get later this week. I'm tempted to make a video of that myself.
Definitely make a video. Feel free to post the link here is you are happy with it. When you say "chatoyant", your stones were cut? I would have thought this stone is too soft and affected by water to do that.
I picked it up near Salinas, California some years back. It's soft and I wouldn't try to facet it, but it is naturally chatoyant. Apparently I can't paste this photo here. How do I send it to you?
Love your video! Here in Bulgaria I also find dolomite crystals in dolomite(rock) matrix. But here there isn't selenite or macasite :( . But I have found goethite which is cool :) . Have a nice day.. or night (I don't know which time is it in Canada :))))
Bulgaria is 7 hours ahead of me (eastern standard time). There is some great rock collecting in your country.. I heard a lecture from a Canadian who spent some time there and he had a wonderful time.
Daisy is fine. I didn't take her on this trip because I wasn't sure she would be allowed at the site and it was too hot to leave her in the truck. She was not happy with me.
Lmao! DUDE! Did you do "that" lol I know you didn't......cut your finger finger off...... Because you would be saying much more than oops. That was a good one though. 😂 I really liked the video though, this guy that was working for my brother- inlaw and myself, really did cut his finger off just after I told him to use a stick to push the board through he was ripping. I heard him curse, and I turned around and he was holding his hand a odd way, I knew so I looked on the floor.......and there it was, his thumb. So I picked it up and put it in a Ziploc, poured out my route 44 or 66 what ever you get at Sonic, I pushed it into the ice and rushed him to the Hospital. The Dr. said good thing you did that to his thumb, and I rapped his hand too stop the bleeding, sooo yes I know what it sounds like. I'm gunna leave on a good note, they saved his thumb....... It was a little shorter and our insurance was a little higher. 😊 I hope you have a great day........with all your fingers. And most of the time tile blades won't cut your fingers off, it might ✂ them occasionally.
Just after WW2, my Dad was troubleshooting air raid sirens that weren't working (coming off the assembly lines). Fairly simple devices with a fan inside to blow air over the siren and everybody was puzzled. Then my Dad noticed something and pointed to the problem, cutting off the tip of his finger. Back then, they didn't do anything for you. The guys at the factory found the tip a week later and mailed it home to him. They thought it was very funny. Him, no so much until years later....
What's that old saying? When god cuts off a thumb, he adds a finger? Or something about a window? When you cut off your thumb, god opens a window? Is that it? .....
no clubs in the New Liskeard area...i tried the Cobalt Mining Museum they don't have the resources to pull it together /// would be great to set one up
The closest one that I am aware is North Bay. I went on one of there trips and met some wonderful people. There might be a few people interested in and around Cobalt for a club. There used to be one at the Haliberry MInes school, but I don't think it is around anymore. They still have a mineral show, so maybe...
Would you be interested in being a speaker for one of our general monthly meetings at our mineral society? We are a not for profit club and we would love to have you speak about your mining experiences.

WHAT !
You mean 725km Wide, so the shelf or fault line extends beyond that, if it goes over the border does it have dual passports!
@@symonsheppard5519 long, not wide
At least, that is what I read online as the the distance, so it must be true. For sure, it goes a long way from the border and a long way north.

I like your sense of humor. Rock Star - and the finger:) Always learn by watching your videos.
Those sort of things aren't planned...just seemed like a good idea at the time. Imagine how strange things could get if I drank. LOL

It is not uncommon, but sometimes difficult to extract. The surrounding rock can be much harder. The selenite breaks rather easily.
Enjoyed ✌
The following was a what not to do to your finger and Hey Daisey come back with that!!!; )

I had lots of comments in earlier videos about the saw. Had to have some fun. ;-)
