  • A quick overview of a used 2009 Audi A4 ,2.0T Quattro and how it's holding up after 100k miles. I highlight notable features as well as issues to look out for when buying one of these vehicles.

    2010 Audi A4 owned since new and now is at 255k miles. Warranty repairs = $13k and out of warranty repairs about 3k however thats because I do the work myself... do not get this car as your first car especially if you can't work on them. Just because you can buy one of these for 7k doesn't mean you should...

    • @orange2352

      To elaborate here is my cars history.
      25k miles did the whole usual works. APR stage 2, test pipe, H&R coilovers, exhaust, pulley, wheels, RS Grille and Fogs, etc. Around 35k miles I was consuming 1 qrt of oil every 400 miles. Motor rebuilt under warranty. Then turbo at 42k miles under warranty. Lastly one injector replaced under warranty. Now were out of warranty and I find out that the timing chain tensioner is a bomb waiting to go off. So spent 1300 on timing chain kit and did motor mounts as well. (This was more preventative maintenance) this was done at 90ish K miles. Then turbo screwed up again at 115k miles so spent the weekend swapping it out. Probably saved 3k in labor for those three items doing it myself. From 115k to 255k miles have been nothing but fluid swaps, oil changes at 30 dollars each (how awesome) and spark plugs every 25k miles. I have newer Audis being a Q5 and RS3 however I keep on coming back to the B8 A4 because its ageless and perfect for any driving 👍 Again, don't buy a car just because it looks cool and can brag to your friends... when stuff breaks on this car it usually is around $500 to $4,000 to repair. My B8 A4 is probably worth 1000 bucks lol once it blows up I am going to get an ebay 2016 motor and swap it in even though it makes no sense to however like I said I keep on driving this car more than my others. This car was designed ahead of its time! Ok ill stop rambling!

      Oh, forgot rear main seal replaced around 130k miles. One more popped in my head. Intake manifold around when I had to replace my turbo a 2nd time. If you want this car spend the extra and get a 2015. It will cost more however has the majority of revised parts on it that youll have to replace anyways on a 2009-2013. If you dont want to take my advice and get a 2009 to 2013 make sure to at least review carfax and make sure it got new pistons and rings, intake manifold, timing chain tensioner, turbo and injectors.

      Thanks for the elaboration. I'm about to pick a 2009 Avant tomorrow for 7k. The engine has been rebuilt because of that oil consumption issue. Think I'm good to go? 160k miles and I work on all my cars, no stranger to working on VW/Audi.

  • @CaptinMidnight
    @CaptinMidnight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    I was going to buy one of these but after doing a little research I found that the 2008 to 2012 2.0 t had problems with burning excessive oil so much so that Audi was replacing the motors in them. The main problem was caused by the piston rings and they would have excessive oil blowback the cost to get this repaired was usually around $6,000. If you're going to buy one make sure that it is had the warranty work done.

  • @joshhatesmilk6389

    There are quite a few problems with this car, I have an 09 A4 as well. Make sure to do your research and know what problems to look for if you want to purchase. Stock PCV, timing chain tensioner, diverter valve, camshaft bracket and rear main seal are some extremely common problems you will face. It's a badass looking car though
    Not to insult the maker of this video at all, I just wanted to share my experiences. Timing tensioner failure can cause catastrophic engine failure, and turn a pretty car into a pretty pile of scrap metal.

    i personally own a 2011 a4 b8 and i love it, but its defenitly a bit pricey to keep up with. Had mine serviced @audi dealerships up until i bought it with 99k miles. After a few weeks ended up needing some regular maintence after reaching 100k miles. luckly had pistons and rings recalled. Put in about $4k since coping for $6750. did timing chain and tensioners due to being very notorious for ruining the engine when timing jumps, also after audi lost that settlement. Definitley a fun and beautful car to own but gotta put some money into it to keep it going good

    In 2013 I bought a 2011 manual 2.0 TDI with 8000km. I always did maintenance as prescribed from audi.
    I never had a Single Problem. Nothing. 2019 I had to repair the V-Belt. Next repair was December 2021 -> new brakes, wheel bearing and the fan of the air conditioning. So for all these years I had to put in 2000€ in this car. Now with 190.000km I‘m satisfied.
    Maybe I just had luck but I think people should know that all cars need maintenance. Most people dont do It because they dont want to pay 500€ every 20.000-30.000km when the car doesnt have any problems. I wouldnt buy a car from a guy that dont have proof of maintenance. But at the end of the day If you buy an Audi for 5000-8000€ you should know that its not a new car and that maybe the seller didnt repair sh!t and didnt do maintenance.

    Audis and Volkswagens are great to drive, and the E888 engine has been well known for 15 years now. PCV valve and water pump will fail, electronics will get very shoddy, and random oil leaks will happen. Labor is easy on these engines. 2013 is good TFSI but older versions consume oil a lot. 2009 TDI is great thought regarding mpg and reliability.

    It’s a good car until it isn’t. I dented my subframe and got it replaced and it just doesn’t feel the same anymore. The steering wheel isn’t straight no matter what mechanics do to it, it wobbles at high speeds, and the transmission is starting to go out at 135,000 miles.

      Are you an owner of one of these? I am looking at buying a 2009 3.2L V6 A4 quattro for 5k, it has 132,000 miles. I'm a college student and would like it to last me at least 5 years relatively problem-free. How is the reliability? I can deal with issues like the sunroof or other electronics. However, I probably can't afford any major mechanical issues. From my research, it seems that the one I have mentioned is the most reliable variant of the car, being that it has the tiptronic as opposed to the other trans in the 2.0T. I would love for a response because I want a fun but still reliable car to get me through college and I still have many questions. My current car is a 2006 Saab 9-3 aero. Thank you.
