  • The OnePlus 5 is the next phone in the family formerly known as “flagship killers.” Like its immediate predecessor the OnePlus 3T, the OnePlus 5 is better described as a "killer flagship," with top-of-the-line specs packed into a very affordable package. That’s OnePlus’s game, after all, and the company plays it well. But does its focus on camera quality justify the slightly higher price tag - and will you be able to tell it apart from your friends’ iPhones? Take in the OnePlus 5 review above to find out, and then hop on over to Android Central’s full OnePlus 5 review to learn what it really means to “never settle.”

      HTC U11 is actually cheaper than OnePlus 5 at moment since they discontinued the production OnePlus 5, HTC U11 is much more value for money since it's waterproof IP67, has OIS, and 2K display , 3D Audio recording and better camera.

      MrMobile [Michael Fisher] they use the same design as the oppo r11 plus (the former Vice President of oppo started one plus so I'm not surprised to be honest 😂) so anyone who says it's an iPhone copy obviously hasnt done any research 😂

    • @TheMrMobile
      @TheMrMobile  7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Said pretty much the same thing in the VO, Joe - with the exception of the iPhone bit. Because R11 notwithstanding, the only qualification you need to see the iPhone influence in this design is a pair of eyeballs. :)

      The dual camera positioning on both phones are very similar (almost the same) and the bezels on both phone are quite similar. OnePlus has been mimicing the positioning of the iPhone 6's buttons since the OnePlus 3. In many ways they are similar.

    • @techpassion4126
      @techpassion4126 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      True that! Leather was pretty darn good too, I personally loved the LG G4 the most for its leather back. Then you have the self-healing backs from the G Flex, and also OnePlus' signature sandstone. These days, almost everyone is just sticking with glass and metal. They're not bad materials, but I really wish there was more variety

      Yeah, the G6 was in my other pocket pretty much the whole time I carried the OP5, and I when it came time for photos, I reached for the G6 more often than the OP5. Wish OnePlus had gone with the wide-angle second camera instead of telephoto.

      They used the Oppo chassis and then tried to find the most cost efficient high end phone they could build for the average consumer.
      Other than not being waterproof, I'd say they succeeded.
      R&D costs would skyrocket the phone's price.

      bala ganz s7 got water resistance, wireless charging, samsung pay better display and higher resolution, better design..op5 just got more speed..didnt give justice to the price...op5 is just midranger phone in terms of features..just got a more powerful chipset and ram...this phone became a flagship itself un terms of price not a flagship killer anymore but lacks features which other midranges phone have...

    • @christmg4682
      @christmg4682 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      bala ganz G6 packs SD821, S7 isnt 2 years old phone and your not guaranteed with future updates from One Plus phones. Look at the OP2(poor OP2 users). G6 is alot superior and so does the S7. Those two phones have Better screen,better camera,yet powerful performance,IP68 certifica tion, SD card slot etc which are basic for every consumers and 5 misses out on that. Software isnt as good but LG and Samsung has come a long way and have been improving alot with time. OP5 is just a 3T with dual camera and this year's internals.

    thanks for the review.
    honestly it's one of the laziest and most blatantly ripped-off designs in recent memory.
    and i bought the 3T which is without question also an unoriginal design

    • @TheMrMobile
      @TheMrMobile  7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yeahhh that's the thing. I didn't really like the 3/3T design but at least you could tell what it was from across the room. To me (and to two of my non-techie friends who asked me about it), the 5 literally just looks like an iPhone 7 Plus.

    • @razorwireclouds5708
      @razorwireclouds5708 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrMobile [Michael Fisher] exactly... and especially with the camera placement and antenna bands...
      i own both the OnePlus X and a 3T.
      the X was inspired by the iPhone 4 and 5, that much is obvious, but where it stood out was taking a good design and importing upon it.
      but with the 3, 3T and 5, they took bad design and did nothing with it.
      honestly, my 3T's sides are too smooth and slippery, almost impossible to pick up safely if the screen is facing downward.
      imagine if the 5 had the side chamfers of the X...

    • @rivengle
      @rivengle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      razorwireclouds The OnePlus X was like a cool throwback to a device that was a few years old. The 5 just feels like a blatant rip of the iPhone.

    I don't understand the backlash against this phone. If you're on a tight budget, but want the latest specs, then you have to sacrifice some features. If you're around the same budget, but choose features over specs, get the LG G6. And if you're complaining about why this phone doesn't have everything, you already know you have an expendable budget, and get a real flagship with specs and features.

    Outstanding review. I tend to focus more on what apps I run, how well they perform and how long my battery lasts. I don't think I've ever spent much time on how much it looks like the back of the phone looks like an iphone because those thoughts quickly dissipate the moment the fingerprint sensor opens the screen. But that's not the only reason there is a "water cooler". Those comparisons will happen. Thanks again Michael. Always the gentleman as well as one of the most technically honest reviewers on the tube. I would be curious about how fast wifi and the LTE bands on. It is one of the only tests I might run for the hell of it. :)

    too expensive, I can get in the UK a LG G6 quad DAC edition for £100 less, guess I'm going LG, better screen and probably better cameras as well, CPU and RAM on the Oneplus might be better, but the LG G6 specs are more then enough, Oneplus lost me with this one...

    • @hugoprh666
      @hugoprh666 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      soufi mhadi it is expensive, last year the Oneplus 3 came out at £300 I got it at that price, now £150 more for what? the only thing that is different is the camera, the CPU, RAM are top tear for this year, as it was last year, don't see the justification for this year's price, I know they want to go mainstream, by doing more advertisement and that has costs, but that is hurting their fans, that made them who they are, at least this is my opinion, all the luck to them, but they are pushing it this year.

    • @raghavendrap7977
      @raghavendrap7977 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      soufi mhadi, come on dude, one plus 5 looks ugly as hell and LG G6 looks way better and has good cameras. Also, don't forget the quad DAC that it has. One plus 5 is only mean't for people who can't afford an Iphone 7. OP5 has no originality at all.

    • @hugoprh666

That could be the case for many others as well. Sorry if I acted kinda cocky. Great review Michael! I always watch your reviews for most balanced views on pros and cons. I was hoping OP5 will take the success of OP3T to another level but sadly disappointed by the amount of real upgrades it came up with for a 2017 flagship device.
    No IPx grade is very disappointing in 2017, surely they could have got a 2K display, a hit or miss camera with no optical stabilization, 8GB ram gimmick with almost stock android running, why not keep 6GB ram with 64, 128 & 256 GB storage option?

    just another iPhone 7+ copy, whyyy????? OnePlus.This company is now standing up to its Chinese influence but in a bad way. I own the Google pixel it might not be the most inspiring design there is but at least it is a little refreshing. There are a lots of gimmicky features like 8gbs of ram(a total over kill), dual camera with a shitty bokah effect(the pixel does a better job here despite having only one camera), shitty ppi(not suitable for vr),looks a little cheap( the 3t looked a littlebit more premium) and to conclude it all it's a not worth it.

    • @Covist
      @Covist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you take/consume a lot of videos (especially at 4k) then 64GB would not be enough imo. Also, without the sd card slot where you can store/backup some important info/files, if your phone breaks, you'll have a tougher time to get everything back.
      This is all my opinion based on the way I use my phone of course, the way you use your phone may differ =)

    • @Covist
      @Covist 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you that most people don't need more space than 128GB. But I still believe that having the option there, kinda like the dual sim ability, would have been nice, especially since the physical space is there already.
