    This is the easy way to fix a refrigerator that is leaking water.
    If you have a fridge that looks like this and it's leaking water down inside you see my cup here is full of water or it's leaking water down here at the bottom, excuse the nasty fridge this is a rental unit it isn't my fridge. The quick way to fix it is to pull the back panel off from this and take the ice maker out and everything and take a hair dryer to it and defrost it all. Because the problem is the drain hole for the freezer where the condensation drains out is frozen over. So, you can take all this apart hit it with a hair dryer and you can get it fixed in about 20 minutes. The easy way to fix the problem is to take the crisper drawer out of the bottom, slide it in there to catch any water that's going to drip down turn the fridge off and let it sit for about two days. One day is probably fine but I'm gonna let it sit for two just to be safe. You want to leave the doors open to make sure it doesn't get all nasty inside. When you come back in a couple of days it'll be all defrosted inside you can close the doors turn it back on and it should be working fine.

      You can speed up the process by removing the back panel in the freezer and hitting the drain with a hairdryer. Then you are only without a freezer for about 30 minutes. But it’s a bit more work.

      @@MsTangeray Did you verify that the drain line was cleared? My drain at the bottom was dry so after everything I made sure the drain line from the freezer was cleared of ice and debris.
      It was a bit of work; I ended up using a basting syringe to squirt hot water down the hose til the line was running freely into the drain pan. I think an air compressor might help also if you have one handy. You have to make sure the line is not blocked. My fridge works fine now.

      @@twentyfiveyears5010yes I thought it was clear. I’ll have to do it again and make sure it’s clear for sure. I saw another video where someone hooked a brazing rod down into the drain line to conduct a little heat to keep from freezing.

    Good video! Sometimes, tenents spill small amounts of food in the freezer, usually little bits of whatever frozen meals from bags.
    So, when I came across those bits, I'd turn off the fridge, let stand for a few hours with door open & I'd pull the back face plate in the freezer & take a shop vac to that hole. The shop vac takes out all that nasty. Wipe up any mess, put it back together & usually/mostly ready to go.

      The freezer regularly defrosts itself and drains the water down a tube in the back wall. The tube can get frozen and clogged not allowing the water to drain properly. By leaving the fridge off for a day with the doors open it allows the tube to thaw out so it can drain water again.

  • @kelm1123

    The problem is the rubber piece on the back drain tube, defrost and take that rubber piece off.

    • @RoscoReviews

      With my rental units I have to defrost a freezer from time to time. Typically, after thawing one out it works fine again. I’m not sure what rubber piece you are referring to. The next time I defrost one, I have to look for that.

    I have this exact same issue happening to mine. However, there is no water line connected to the fridge for the ice maker, will this method resolve my issues? I just don’t understand where the water is coming from

    • @RoscoReviews
      @RoscoReviews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, this will likely fix the issue. its condensation that builds up on the coils in the freezer. typically when the freezer runs its defrost cycle the condensation runs down a little tube inside to a tray beneath the fridge where it then evaporates.. This tube can get frozen over and not allow the water to drain to the bottom.

      Refrigerators put off a lot of heat because they are transferring the heat from inside to outside. So, its possible that this is normal. but, without looking at it it's tough to say.

    • @RoscoReviews
      @RoscoReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This problem occurs when the tube that drains the condensation from the coils when the freezer runs its defrost cycle gets frozen over. this can happen at any time. typically it doesn't happen again right away. But it could happen again sometime in the future. If it happens again immediately after thawing it out, than there may be something other than ice blocking the drain. But that is a pretty rare occurrence.

    Or just take a pot of hot water, and pour it in in about 30 seconds (be sure to unplug first).
    Of course, none of these will fix the problem
    I had - which was a legitimate clog in the middle of the drain hose (no ice). After several hours trying to get everything from a Zip-It, a clothes hanger, and a wire fish tool into the stiff pipe, I finally took my extra long 36” pipe cleaner (from my homebrew kit), chucked it in my drill, and ran it through from both sides. The tube was so tight it literally bound several times and let the drill twist the cleaner till it snapped, but I was finally able to get it to run smoothly enough to get the drain clear!! I had to toss the pipe cleaner and get a new one for my home brewing stuff, but worth it to not have puddles on the floor all the time :)
    Just leaving this here for anyone who is having the same problem I had - I hope it’s just ice for all of you, though, as that was a pain in the a$$!

    • @RoscoReviews

      yeah, that is a chore. I have only had one get clogged once that wasn't just ice. Somehow someone got a piece of corn in there. I don't even know how they did that. lol

    • @RoscoReviews

      If you are refering to the shelf in the freezer. the holes that the sids go into are sort of slits. The top part of the hole is deeper than the bottom. So, you can lift up on the shelf about a quarter inch. Then it will slide to the side.

      What is the dividing line between "warm enough to speed the melting" and "too hot or it will damage the insulation?" Instead of blowing directly on the back wall of the freezer with a hot hair dryer, what about a small space heater on "warm" blowing air from a foot away from the open freezer door?
