    There’s an 84 Monte Carlo with a 502 for sale near me. But the seller says it’s only pushing 475 hp that’s gotta be underrated right?

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. There are different versions of the GM 502 that GM sells. There is a Chevrolet Performance#12568778 502 engine offered for just around that hp number you quoted.

      This is the 502 kit. It says 611hp at 9.5-1 compression. I have 10:5-1 so alas that is about 620hp. Just check and make sure it will be right for your 496 and good luck my friend!!!

    how did u make the fuel cell filler neck

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just metal tubing that was bent and attached to the flange on the fuel cell. On the top is actually a 6 inch metal parts dish tray that I cut a whole in and welded below the gas cap. It catches any water when I wash the car. Simple but it works.

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never had it at the track. I just cruise around and go to car shows with her. I have had a few drag racers tell me my setup should bring high 10's in the 1/4 with the car being 3400lbs with driver, 4:11s and 620hp

    • @yetisnowservice4118
      @yetisnowservice4118 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      okay thank you ! Would you do the same setup now if you were starting over ? Ever have problems with over heating when out driving a lot etc

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yetisnowservice4118 I built the motor for the street so it's a torque monster that rarely sees 5500rpm. It's got gobs of low end power. I could put big AFR heads, a dominator, a big solid roller cam in the motor, more stall, more rear gear and make well over 700hp but then it would take away from the bottom end for the street but would be great for the drag strip. As far as over heating I have 2 big electric fans, a huge aluminum radiator and an electric water pump and will run at 180F all day long on a hot day😁

    Nice car were did you get that sweep speedo from if you don't mind me asking

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is the original 200kph speedo that came with the car. I know it is a rare option

    • @justcars571
      @justcars571 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that the old style sweep speedometer was only used on the very base Malibu. Some are even clock delete as is yours. Mine is a very base model as we and has the same. Mine is also radio delete. You are correct in that they are rare, especially with click delete because most optioned up.

    Really nice! You had mentioned the front seats are from a WRX Subaru! Do you mind telling how you mounted them? Did you have to purchase a seat mount? I have a 81 Malibu Wagon and was looking for bucket seats and came upon your post. Thanks in advance and good luck

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I purchased a seat mount for it and had a welder/fabricator buddy of mine install it. I also made a mistake in saying the seats were from a WRX. Actually they are from a 2 seater Subaru BRZ!

    • @reyesramos2939

      @@smallblockchev64 Thank you smallbloclchev1964 for the 411 on the seats. However, I have one more question on the console and floor shifter. From what car did you get the console and what shifter are you using? Thanks in advance

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reyesramos2939 Hi, the console is the original that came with the car but you can pickup reproductions, ones with trays, gauge cluster cutouts etc etc from Dixie Restoration. The shifter is a Hurst Quarter Stick with a reverse pattern. The handle was added by the guy I bought it from. Hope that helps.

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought it originally with Thrush copies of the Flowmaster super 40's. They were so loud you couldn't think while driving lol. I love loud but there's a limit. I soon installed Dynomax 3' super turbo mufflers. They are loud but the interior resonance is much better. My head doesn't throb so much now ,lol

    I was gonna ask why the SS badging on the grill and fenders but with a 502 ci and 620 HP you, my friend, can put anything you f*#%in want up there 😃

    • @smallblockchev64
      @smallblockchev64  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and you are the first person to comment on the SS badges. As you know there were no 1978-81 SS Malibu's but the guy I bought the car from was a body man who did all the work on this car including a complete color change from burgundy to black. He put the SS badging on at the time he did the body work. I decided to keep them because they look cool and coincidentally they are my initials, lol.

      @@smallblockchev64 Perfect and it looks great. By the way I passed my drivers license road test on my step father's car in 1981. Guess what it was? And 100% true. A 1980 Chevrolet Malibu two door in BURGUNDY! It was the V6 but hey, close enough. That's how I found your car on youtube - occasionally I do a search on '80 Malibu two doors because at the time it was a really sweet driving car including the V6 and I still love them. In fact, Motor Trend has a video on youtube of a four door Malibu in a staged chase scene you have to check out (don't have link, sorry, but easy to find, and the four doors look sick man restomodded! Thanks pal, good talking with you and great car man, just love it!

      All you can do is check Kijiji, Craigslist and local Facebook groups that specialize in older muscle cars etc. I truly lucked into this one. I'm here in Nova Scotia Canada and personally have never seen another one like this at any car shows. Most have been stripped and converted into drag cars that I know of around these parts. Good luck on your search and thanks for commenting.
