    We are about to embark on a 1000km road trip to the North end of Vancouver Island and the Ecodiesel JL Wrangler needs its first oil change.
    Huge thanks to Paradigm Auto Works get getting me everything I needed and letting me come by with the Jeep!
    These prices were prices straight from the Jeep dealership for the oil they recommended. So be careful if you are sourcing oil and filters from the dealer as they seem to be very pricey.

    With four tire inflators you can turn on the compressor as soon as one tire is connected. Then keep removing the caps and connecting more tires as the compressor runs. The pressures will equalize and the total time should be less.

    I bought this when it first came out. Literally the first group sent out. I’ve used it 15 times and love it, no more staying bent over. I use it with a Power Tank. Takes about 3 minutes to air up 4 37’s. I recommend it to everyone who sees it. I didn’t get a hat.

    • @vdub5818
      @vdub5818 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @David Wang yeah but if you have a dual arb they are 100% duty cycle so that really shouldn't be an issue. Right?

    • @jusimplicit
      @jusimplicit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @David Wang huh? the tubing is rated at 100 psi. why would you risk blowing out the tubing with a power tank? arb compressors float around 100 psi during inflation so much safer

    • @naamangeist7843
      @naamangeist7843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jusimplicit what does it matter? You're not airing the tires past 30ish PSI anyways. Power Tanks have regulators for dialing down the pressure for tire inflation. Those hoses will never see 100 psi if your doing the job right.

    I got my Speedflate in September and love it! Couldn't have been designed better and very well built. So nice knowing I have perfect air pressure in my tires and with MT's , proper rotation and inflation will keep the tire noise down and tires will last longer with even tread ware. Super easy to air up-down your friends too. I installed a two-way air system on my JK that took an afternoon to install (running air hoses to each wheel well and joining up under the hood where my compressor was mounted). On my new JL, I mounted a dual ARB under the passenger seat. Never gets dusty/wet/dirty and I crank the AC floor panel to high and cold when airing up to keep the compressor cool. Great review Casey!

  • @EricCantin
    @EricCantin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Based on our experience with the "hoses get covered in mud" model, the 4 tires will only equalize if parked on a level surface. Doesn't take much to have a few psi variance between corners. Still so handy vs doing one corner at a time.

  • @DavidIJ
    @DavidIJ ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don’t think you emphasize enough the equalizing psi and the deflating all at once. Great video, my system is in the mail today!

    I built my own and it works great. The fact that I can sit inside while I air up and down is a huge win especially living on the wet Coast. I run 3/8" line for my set up so less restriction

    • @blakeg2159
      @blakeg2159 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the same: 3/8" line with high flow quick connects to it. Overall I'm happy because I don't have to bend down and air up 4 tires one at a time. My 37s take about 5 minutes from 8 to 30psi. Plus the gauge I have is close enough that I can tell what the PSI is without turning off the air flow.

    I love my Speedflate system and TJ is great to do business with. I have used it on 5 different outings and the speed and convenience when airing up or down is fantastic. I had an early model with pressure fittings and one of them developed a leak, TJ got new heavy duty connectors on it quickly and was a pleasure to work with. I would recommend this system and this company to anyone!

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the system now will hold the air in it from the last time you aired up if you don't drain it. It still had 30 psi in it 3 weeks later.

    I built a similar system on my own about 2 years ago. Kudos and best of luck to TJ Mitchell for turning it into a business!
    I have never compared the actual inflation times single vs. 4 at once. I always assumed that, same pressures, same volumes, and same compressor, the big difference would be in set up time. And aside from everything else, by far the biggest advantage AFAIC is what you mentioned at the end of the vid: you do not spend 15 mins hunched over tires for both deflation and inflation. You can do something else or just sit around and relax. And that's worth gold IMO.

    Great idea, I made these back in the 80's n 90's four wheeling in Texas n Florida. The plastic hoses are the weak link. I normally run my front tires 2-3 psi higher than my rear tires, (weight of engine difference). Airing up 4 35" tires on several vehicles was painless but one of the hoses split at the connector during hook up of the fifth vehicle. I love the quality gauge and connectors!! My wheelin' buddies only complaint was getting the hoses rolled n unrolled, minor gripe!! I used all Harbor Freight parts both times (i think) so you be the judge. GREAT VIDEO I'M JONESING FOR A DIESEL JEEP BUT AM LEARY OF ITALIAN DIESELS?! I WROTE LETTERS TO JEEP IN THE EIGHTIES TO PUT A SMALL DIESEL IN THE CJ'S. I MISS MY 2004 2 DR UNLIMITED ON 35'S!! SO NOW WE HAVE DIESELS (AND V8'S again}. DECISIONS DECISIONS!!

    Thanks for doing the timed comparison. I recently purchased a similar system but I never 'air down'. My benefit, for large truck tires, is the ability to balance pressures periodically. My vehicle is new so it has a TPMS that shows when something is low - no need to touch the tire to gather that information. If one or two tires are a bit low, a quick 'topping off' is more efficient and I don't need to deploy/retrieve the hose system.

  • @olliehopnoodle4628
    @olliehopnoodle4628 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There are two advantages to the system compared to a single line that helps them fill faster. First, the restriction that the valve stems cause is minimized because the volume of air is being pushed to 4 tires at the same time. (This is less of a concern if your compressor doesn't push a lot of CFM). Second, the compressor is always running, with a single line there is downtime for the compressor as you move from tire to tire. I think if you started the compressor and connected the first tire (removing the valve cap at that time) and then continued to the other three tires the 'real world' time would be improved.

    The difference is 46 seconds. That is without the valve stem removal or whatever. At the end of the day it comes down to what your time is worth. Life or death 46 seconds is a lot. Life or death I would drive my 12 psi tires on the road. So is it worth it? For me, absolutely not. UNLESS I didn't have another setup to begin with. But I find that BSing at the end of a trail and talking about fun had often times leads to even more good times during those few extra seconds or minutes. Keep in mind, not everyone will air up the same and I have never seen someone left behind. We aren't out there on a time crunch, we are having fun, decompressing, making memories with friends. At the end of the day I hope speedflate makes money and is successful. I hope Casey is with his channel and adventures. There is no wrong option here and I love your videos Casey keep them up.

    it is way faster to fill up all 4 tires, on those ARB twins you don't get the full CFM doing a single tire at a time. on average I can air up 3 1/2 minutes faster than my friends that do it 1 at a time. i have a different 4 tire kit i made but... ultimately you have to wait for your friends to air up, or if you're at camp airing up, you're 1 beer ahead of them haha!

    Update for my speedflate I ordered about a month ago. I don’t know if I got a dud but mine leaks horribly from the quick disconnect that attaches to the compressor. I have a single arb that is 2 months old and works great with any other fittings. But with the speedflate it leaks more then fills unless I’m holding the fitting at an angle. I’ve contacted the company so we will see about a replacement or refund. Overall super disappointing after spending almost 200$

    I imagine that a 4-tire system with the addition of a pressure regulator to cut off the air when you reach the desire pressure would be awesome in terms of freeing you up to do other things. I've looked at a few systems and wonder why none of them include a regulator- maybe there's a down-side I'm not seeing.

    • @Marvify
      @Marvify 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just purchased an ARB twin and I also purchased the pressure control system for this exact purpose, not only does it stop at the designated pressure it also lets you have different presets depending on what type of terrain you're going to be driving on. It also airs down for you to your set pressure so you don't have to stand and guard the pressure gauge. Seems like a perfect addition to the 4 tire inflation systems.

    Sorry they're way too bulky to store in a 2 door TJ already full of camping gear. I use a good quality portable compressor ($70) hooked up directly to the battery which packs into a small 6-pack size bag which I can remove from the Jeep when daily driving. Cab mounted super compressors have a bad habit of disappearing if you parked on the street or your driveway.
    I'm running 31"x10.5" tires so it doesn't take that long to air up and I'm not a weekend warrior, rather a road warrior where I'll drive to Arizona, air down and spend a week 4-wheelin' in remote areas then air up for the highway run to the nearest town for food, water & gas, and another 400 mile highway run. Used to run with hard core rock crawler types and clearly the CO2 tank setup is the fastest for airing up big tires hands down.
    The octopus setup is silly for the time saved, a waste of money. Frankly onboard air is an expense not worth paying unless you have air lockers. My elderly former Baha 1000 racer mechanic has told me over and over KISS is the key, trick stuff not on your Jeep cannot fail.

    Not having to babysit each tire during airdown and airup is a major benefit. Now I just need to decide on co2 tank with pressure regulator or arb compressors. *I'm thinking arb compressors because 7 minutes isn't bad for airing up especially if not having to do each tire individually. Co2 might help though if needing to reseat tire bead, but that's what spare is for i guess

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer a compressor as I have aired up and filled my tires several times on longer trips and don't want to have empty CO2 tank anxiety.

  • @SlackBlade
    @SlackBlade 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    If the 4 tire system have 4 shutoff valves, wouldn't it be faster to start airing up as soon as one tire is hooked up? This would allow you to get pressure into the system sooner. Thoughts?

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the design, I have a spider air system. It's basically a tank with 4 hose outlets and a pressure gauge on the tank. I have the same air compressor as you (ARB twin). You should have your engine running to stop your battery discharging too much. Especially if you have to air up a trailer or your mates vehicle because he forgot his air compressor.

      The pin that pushes on the valve core is likely sealed similar to a shrader valve core itself. It has a spring to push the pin 'out' and presses against a sealing surface. Any air coming through the line from a connected tire will push on the back of said pin, and actually aid that sealing surface from preventing leaks.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ya. I was doing thr math. The time it would take me to go get my co2 tank constantly refilled would outwiegh the time i spend airing up. When i am away on a long trip I could air up 10+ times as well. Thats why I use a compressor.

    • @vdub5818
      @vdub5818 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CO2 is great, but it shouldn't be solely relied on IMO. Especially not for someone who wheels alot and has 37"+ tires. However if speed is your only concern, and you don't mind refilling all the time, powertanks are awesome.
      Also powertanks don't really help if all your other wheeling buddies have on board compressors. You end up spending the same amount of time sitting there waiting for everyone else.

    • @jimgavin1799

      I air up all 4 with my Powertank, you need to use a hose between the tank and the valve so the valve doesn’t freeze up. Takes about 3 minutes to do all 4 and you don’t have to bend over.

    Any time I air up my tires, I have to fiddle with the inflator holding it just right on the valve stem because there always seems to be a little leakage. I find it baffling there hasn't been any technological progress in the last 50 years that would give us a walk-away, 100% positive connection.

    How accurately does this system air up and air down each tire? Is there a bias on the tires that are closer to the compressor vs the ones at the end of the hose or does it really equalize the air between all 4 tires?

    • @DavidAlanReece
      @DavidAlanReece 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since it is a closed system, air pressure will be equal across the entire system. This comment also assumes there are no regulators at each tire (which I don't believe there are).
