  • Arkansas is a beautiful state with a lot to offer, but it's not for everyone. In this video, we'll explore some of the reasons why people might not want to move to Arkansas before you call a realtor and start looking for real estate.
Of course, there are also many reasons why people would want to move to Arkansas. The state is home to a variety of natural resources, including forests, mountains, and rivers. It also has a low cost of living and a strong sense of community. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to move to Arkansas is a personal one.

I was raised in the Northeast and had my medical training in the the northern Midwest. I chose to move to Arkansas for several reasons that have stood well over time. To begin with, there is no such thing as a physician who isn’t busy - the demand for your expertise is immense and you have a great medical community to work alongside. Your patients are genuinely appreciative of what you do for them - you are a well respected member of the community. People are down to earth and unpretentious. Your cost of living is below average - actually attracting many retirees for that reason. Relatives visiting from out of state are astounded by the relative low cost of real estate. You enjoy the change of seasons with many outdoor activities. I won’t defend the public education typically available, but education begins at home and as a parent you set the standards. Both my children have engineering degrees and amazing careers ahead of them. Life is what you make of it and making the most of a diamond in the rough is highly rewarding. Look beyond convention wisdom.

Please keep making these videos telling people not to move to Arkansas. I live in Benton County in Northwest Arkansas and I've watched my area which was so unknown basically and had low crime and traffic that moved smoothly turn day by day turn into a gentrified urban area with too much traffic and not enough infrastructure to handle it. Also it's not uncommon to hear of murder and other "big city" crime where it's becoming normal.

It's a poor state, that is the sole source of the health, crime and education issues mentioned. For the upper middle class and one percenters living here with great education and stable families there is zero impact of any of that on their lives. I've got billionaire friends living here in rural Arkansas. They have great kids and are not plagued by the problems that plague the poor. Arkansas gets the bad wrap because of the same problems that occur with the same frequency in the poorer demographics population the world over. We just have more, but those problems don't affect others in a statistically significant manner. Our Walmarts and Targets aren't closing like the ones in Seattle, Portland and Chicago.

And I don't ask anyone to help me. I like everyone else pays 10¢ on each dollar I spend which goes to fund the government. I'm not complaining Steve so please don't think that. I've just learned some of life's lessons the hard way and it has built an inner strength and character I didn't know I had in me. I'm happy for my successful friends. I just know I came into the World with nothing and will leave it with nothing. I'm just glad I never had children of my own who've had to suffer because of my misfortune.

We have traveled all over the country and lived in several states including, New Jersey, Virginia, California, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. During our travels we looked all over the country and out of every state we picked Arkansas to retire in. We can travel north, south, east and west conveniently with our RV from here, We've been here permanently for a year and a half but visited often before that. We just absolutely love it here. The cost of living here is awesome. The people are awesome as well. I was a little concerned about medical care here but found it's 100 % better here than in Georgia where we spent most of the last 40 years. The doctors here actually spend time with you and listen to what you're telling them. The summers are humid but so was Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Actually he whole east coast is humid. That's what air conditioning is for. We love having 4 seasons and we can also travel whenever we want to. We love nature and wildlife and we live on 7 wooded acres and have very low taxes. We're very close to 2 huge lakes, the Buffalo National River and the White River. We're a little over an hour from Branson, Missouri. We have barely any traffic in this rural area unless we go to Mountain Home or Harrison. We have absolutely no stress living here and lots of friends already. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We know we picked the best place for us to retire.

I love Arkansas. First moved here in 2004 from Western NY. I have a little goal for my retirement and that's to try to hit as many primitive or tent site camps as possible and as many trails. Live in the River Valley right now. Doesn't have the money North West Arkansas does but it's where I'm at now. I love driving Arkansas and just stopping when I see something interesting on the side or a view. Land is still relatively cheap too. The flat side is the East side. I do want to check out the Delta area as a road trip to see the swamps and Cypress. A whole different world from the Ozarks.

I'm originally from Central Arkansas, and had an opportunity to transfer out in 1988, best decision I ever made. I have told my children that I would disown them if they ever move there!! Unfortunately, I have had to spend time there with elderly parents, these past few years. If one really insists on taking a step backward, then go ahead, but best to stay in the northern or western areas. There are great areas for scenery etc. but it's not the only state with scenery, and it doesn't make up for the stupid factor.

Southern states that are doing well typically have at least one major city that is booming and counteracting the decline in the rural areas. Little Rock has a lot of problems and has throughout much of its history. As a result, it never became as large as other major cities in the South. If Little Rock were a 1 million population metro instead of the size that it is, it would make a huge difference in the state. Northwest Arkansas is booming by Arkansas standards, but not as much by national standards. Much of the boom in NW Arkansas has come at the expense of the rest of the state. I've watched a number of your videos. My experiences frequently contradict your conclusions. Statistics don't adequately describe reality. Arkansas is beautiful, has trees, abundant water, etc. But more than physical beauty, it has heart and soul. For the most part, people help each other, treat others with respect and consideration. Little Rock crime is mostly on the south side. Arkansas crime is mostly in the southeast. In contrast to, for example, San Francisco, where crime is everywhere and people treat each other like 💩. Crime rates are likely to appear higher in places that continue to prosecute crime. Arkansas is mostly politically conservative but LR is liberal. Many Arkansans are Christian, in acts as well as belief. After recent tornadoes all of LR immediately turned out to help. By comparison, after the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco doors slammed and locked immediately. But I agree with a number of comments here. If you're looking for a woke, party time, soft on crime culture, please go somewhere else. One of your recent videos included a comment that some people dislike Arkansas because Sarah Sanders is governor. Those people are right to go elsewhere. FYI, Sanders was President Trump's first press secretary and is daughter of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. To date she has made good on all campaign promises. Within hours after tornadoes hit, she was out assessing damage, calling up the national guard, and requesting federal support. I'm glad every day that I no longer live on the west coast or in the southwest desert. I❤️ Arkansas.

It's interesting that I recently saw a video about 10 places of moderately
    sized cities that are recommended
    for retirement for various reasons
such as lower costs of living expenses.
Two come to mind, Little Rock, and
Jackson, MS, which startled me after
    watching your recommendations here

Like many states Arkansas is good and bad. I spent about 5 years there, predominately in Jonesboro (NE), but also some in rural North Central. And most of my perspective otherwise is from the Midwest. So for me the weather was a big plus. Sure, it does snow, but usually its melted by mid day. Ice storms seemed to be more of a problem in my experience. And the excessive heat and humidity in the summer. Oh, and weather wise also seemed like a lot of tornados, and just erratic swings in weather. There was one small town I would drive by often that was hit bad right before I moved down. And then that same town was hit again during the five years I was there. There was a lot of bugs down there, probably another negative not really discussed here. Jonesboro had trucks that would drive around spraying some cloud of something to kill mosquitos, which helped. But get outside the city, and it was excessive. I really didn't think crime was that bad, but I think Little Rock and Pine Bluff just sort of drag the whole state down. And admittedly, there was some small towns that felt weirdly unsafe. I felt like this sort of different than the midwest, in that most midwest towns, the smaller they are the less crime. But I think rural poverty was a bit more prevalent there, and crystal meth was a big problem. Anyway, I really haven't spent much time there the past 20+ years. But I always sort of figured I may end up back there in retirement. Or at least the winters. It does have tons of beautiful country there. And the people are generally pretty nice. Although less so, if you are a Yankee. There was a weird level of confederate pride there. Just seemed odd to me so many generations later.

Love my state. People think we're "slow" and for the most part, no not true. Both my girls have degrees and everyone isn't poor or uneducated. I don't come from a rural area so I don't know about all that. Arkansas is one of the most beautiful states and if you want to be in touch with nature, it's your state. Kayaking, tubing, trails, hiking, lakes, mountains, it's truly beautiful and a lot of fun. Do we feed people to our pigs? Of course not!! Are we friendly? Pretty much. But feel free to stay where you are if you have a negative attitude. Crime? Unfortunately and it's not just Little Rock and Pine Bluff but that's a lot of gang related crime. I love my State and love the Razorbacks!

You clearly don't know LR. Little Rock is not Pine Bluff. Most of LR is fine, even huge chunks of the "inner city" are gentrifying. Of course, there are areas with high crime but that tends to be relegated to specific areas (mainly Southwest LR and along the 12th street and Asher corridors) as with most American cities...and LR is the only real city in the state. Fwiw, I currently live in both New England and in LR part of the year. North of 630 and out Chenal are as nice as any middle and upper middle class areas in the country...and those are large parts of the city.

I live in Memphis and my sister lives in Little Rock. The drive on I-40 between them is one of the worst drives in America. No scenery at all and it's maybe 60% semi-truck traffic. It's a bottleneck in the interstate system where traffic headed east from CA and TX comes together to cross the MS river at Memphis. Trucks take up both lanes and stack up a dozen or so in a row, so it's slow and dangerous.

Also why do you want to look for nature if you’re driving in a damn interstate! 😂🤣 You are clueless and have no idea about the concept of very existence of interstates, which is to quickly transport you from one state to other as soon as possible. I live in Northwest AR and it is completely different from the rest of the state. I've been living there for the last 20 years. Everywhere else in AR has problems. I did not experience people dying premature deaths, low education, tons of teen pregnancies, or poor transportation problems ever. I am sure that the small rural towns do experience those things. It's quite diverse in NWA. Tons of corporate jobs, good (expensive) housing, educated people. My wife is from Boise and we apparently have bigger and more hospitals than out there. I haven't had issues going to major cities in the US through XNA airport. It isn't big, but it'll take you to pretty much every major city in the US via direct flight. It gets hot, but not as hot as the mid 90 average summer temps that the majority of the state experiences. It's typically 3 to 5 degrees cooler in the Northwest corner. It actually doesn't feel that southern in this corner. There are pride parades here as well as pro life rallies. It is very diverse in terms of political views in the Northwest corner. It is one of the best places to live. Not really fair to treat it as an equal to the rest of the state.

Arkansas "too rural"? Maybe, but I sure don't see that as a negative! The main bummer about my part of Arkansas (the N.E. part, the Delta), is that it's so dang hot. The heat index can stray upwards of 120 easily, with the tropical humidity. I don't care for that, and the big mosquitos it brings, but Arkansas ain't bad. Except for around Fayetteville. Too many Lefty/hippie types over there for my liking.

That is hard to say, because some areas are full of out-of-staters who might not be as friendly as the locals. Also, while many native Arkansans have Scots ancestors, accents could make initial conversations baffling for both sides. Establishing working and/or personal relationships with several people who have deep roots in Arkansas would help. Have lots of conversations with them before going there.

    3. The food, Arkansas is still a melting pot, just about everyone from every culture has family here or that came thru here so we have a little of everything!

As someone who has lived in Springfield MO in the last 2 yrs, I’ve visited Arkansas multiple times during this time! The northwest corridor (Bentonville- Rogers-Springdale-Fayetteville) is a decent good urbanized area kinda similar to Kansas City. The favorite part of visiting AR is the fact it has so many nature spots to see hike and do all sorts of things! In case you’re interested, checkout these spots - Magazine mountain, Hot spring baths (reservation recommended), glory hole falls, eureka springs, hawsbill crag/whitaker point, buffalo national river, mammoth springs state park, and much more… Yes AR has a lot of issues and I still see those confederate flags whenever I go there and there is rampant poverty and decay especially in the south, central and east but in my opinion is an underrated state to experience natural scenery! I would not recommend to live there (unless it’s in the NW) but visiting there would be a treat for nature lovers!
