- This Yamaha FG-110 Red Label - a very nice vintage guitar - has a severely bent neck. I am going to get it back in playing condition without a neck reset using the truss rod only. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching... Like and Subscribe!

As you've found, adjusting the truss rod doesn't fix high action. The problem is a bad neck angle from 50 years of string tension pulling the neck up. Only a neck reset can fix that, fixing the neck angle.
happens to all acoustic guitars over time...
@@ManotickGuitarTech YEP! Most people don't understand the geometry of the aging acoustic guitar. SURE, you can fix 3/16" action by "Tweaking" the truss rod! NOT!!!!! Or they'll go the next step and install the Bridge Doctor, and find little significant change. Or sand the brown to next to nothing! Now it needs a neck reset AND a new bridge!
Drop a light into the lower bout. If you can see the shadows of the braces, it's solid. If not, it's ply
wood. Yamahas are dificult to tell by looking at the edge of the sound hole.
good tip
i enjoyed the video.
i understand that yamaha acoustics (as well as other asian brands) once had a reputation for using epoxy to glue their instruments, making a neck reset twice as difficult. is this still the case with modern yamaha acoustic guitars? thank you.
Did this guitar have a solid spruce top?
not sure - it was over 2 years ago... probably plywood, though
Nick, you asked about the truss rod size - it 5/16" or 8mm
How long should I wait to put the tiny screws back in after gluing in the little toothpick dowels just as you did on the truss rod cover holes? Looks like normal wood glue?
45-60mins should be fine
Red labels are solid wood.
I have since found that out - thanks!
I hear they are plywood from so many sources. are ALL red labels solid?
They are plywood, I have 2. Its very obvious when looking down at the top in the soundhole
No, they are not.
always loosen the rod when trying to see if it's functional
Is that good action?😳
