I agree with that completely, makes me upset for them that the music industry ignores them. I dont think they are even nominated, which is unbelievable.
Austin Brown is their high tenor, Rob Lundquist is the lower tenor, Adam Chance is their baritone/bass, Tim Foust is the super low bass, some people think he is a basso profundo. He does have a 5-octave range. and their beatboxer is Adam Rupp (and the founder of the group) He is also a tenor when he sings, but he mostly beatboxes.
I grew up listening to CSN & had their album with this song Helplessly Hoping. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. But I must say since I discovered Home Free they more than do justice to all the songs they cover. And this song is perfection to me with the 5 part harmonies. I can't say enough about how great these guys are & humble while still staying respectful to the original song.
Thank You for your reaction….the Home Free rabbit hole is such a delightful trip…..you don’t want to ever let it end. Lucky us, as there are so many (over 150+ video) for us to enjoy 🥰🔥‼️
Danielle Marie, this is one of my most anticipated reactions ever. I hope you enjoy their performance of Helplessly Hoping as much as I have over the years since they released it. Take care.
"I just love the harmonies and the way they blend and I said he has such a rich mature voice and then he came in with an amazing pure tenor harmony and the bass oh the bass is just perfect but it always is and you guys keep telling me that they are all so talented and have such great range ... I'm just speachless." Loved the reaction, Danielle! **grinning**
I am mesmerized by this song. The first time I heard it I started crying, but in a good way. It's just so beautiful! You are so good at pointing out the nuances. I'm so glad I came across your channel.
I love how this song plays with alliteration Helplessly Hoping Her Harlequin Hovers, Wordlessly Watching he Waits by the Window, Love isn't Lying it's Loose in a Lady who Lingers, etc. While I am aware that the man's name is Adam Chance, it always throws me when someone calls him Adam. To me, he's Chance and Adam is the beat boxer. I'm pretty sure it was Austin on the highest part. It usually is. Other reactors I have heard commented on how mature Rob's voice is and how young and bright Austin's is. I was surprised to hear you comment on the "maturity" of Austin's voice.
I really loved hearing Adam Rupp singing as well in this. His beatboxing is out of this world, but he is also an incredibly good singer in his own right.
You really need to hear Home Free collaborating with Peter Hollens singing, “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. This is a masterpiece in production with over 350 people singing.
I agree with you - these guys are enourmously talented ! And it is so great that the group doesn't seem to suffer from ego problems. I love the way they pass the lead around to whomever is the best fit, and the fact that each of them is comfortable and very capable in the lead.
A masterpiece was originally the work a journeyman presented to the guild in order to be granted the title of "master." This is HF's masterpiece. Their expertise is exquisite, their precision priceless.
Adam Chance came up with the concept and the arrangement for this video and brought it to the others. He has added so much to them since joining. #subscriptionsquad
That cry at 05:23 was just ... like a knife to the heart... I recognize it too well from so many reactors, when they have been truly turned into Home Fries
kinda think Adam Rupp is doing the highs .... the seem to video focus on him in other tunes when there are high parts... he is a machine who says he cant sing high too :)
My favorite of almost every reaction I've heard to Home's Free's stunning cover to Helplessly Hoping is the end where part where the haunting harmonies just stop..... and reactors all get that "child with her candy stolen" look and shout..."It's not over is it???!!! It can't be ....NOOOOOOOOO!"
Home Free has really two very experienced bass voices, Tim Foust, a basso profundo, and Adam Chance, who sang bass in his prior group, Street Corner Symphony. With Home Free Chance is free to sing baritone and lead. Both have very high ranges and Chance often sings with Rob and Austin on close harmonies. You can hear a difference to Home Free than other a cappella groups when Chance overlays his deep baritone over Tim’s low bass. Rob has an extensive range, but he usually sings from baritone to high tenor, and is usually considered Lead Tenor. Austin has an extremely high range which stays very strong and beautiful. He sang At Last on his channel in Etta’s key. Adam Rupp is a master of vocal percussion, horn, and wind instruments and usually sings baritone or 3rd tenor when they do five part harmonies. They all beatbox, instruments, and sounds when needed.
Actually, Adam Rupp is a tenor. His range lies lower than Austin but higher than Rob. In 5-part harmony pieces when Austin is singing lead, Adam is often the high harmony note above Austin that just goes on forever.
This song kind of does the same but, if you really want to see what each of them can do individually, Don Mclean's re-release of American Pie for its 50th anniversary was done with Home Free and he basically gave each member save the beatboxer their own verse. Don Mclean says he chose Home Free to sing with him because they quote, 'Know harmonies.' (exhibit A: _*gestures to this video*)_ The bass, Tim Foust sings in the middle of his range for his solo but does go low in the background before and after. The beatboxer doesn't get a solo but does his thing for the entire 8 minute song without a break. I hear he nearly passed out. That's dedication right there.
Ok here's the breakdown of the group. Austin is the 1st tenor, Rob is 2nd tenor, Adam Chance is baritone, and Tim is the bass/subwoofer. Adam Rupp is the human drum kit, when he's singing I believe he's a baritone.
Austin, long curly hair, is actually their high tenor. Rob, big bearded guy, is lead tenor. On this one you also had Adam, the beatboxer, singing tenor harmony. Of course Chance started the song and Tim is the bass.
Actually, Rob's register is higher than Austin's...and the band doesn't break down as "high tenor" or "lead tenor". If HF were a typical "band", Austin would be the front man. His voice is stronger and has more....character maybe?... than Rob's. Rob's voice is much cleaner and smoother....typical of choir singers.
@@zencraft3676 the reason a lot of people refer to rob as lead tenor and Austin as high tenor is that's what they are labeled as at the end of a couple vids that have end credits. generally speaking lead tenor isn't referring to the guy in the lead but the guy who is generally singing melodies in a range in between the high tenor and the baritone which would be rob most of the time.

Great job in not losing any of us. I've listened to this several times and may have heard Home Free a few more times than you have to this point so I'd venture that perhaps Austin has the high part in the beginning of this that you wondered about. His voice is slightly thinner than Rob's and, in keeping with where their ranges are for this particular song, it fits. However, all of these guys are so talented that it truly could have been almost any one of them, including Tim's bass voice. LOL. I'm always amazed when I relisten to this with each new reactor that the 2 voices that sing in harmony and then in unison (same note, same octave) at the very beginning of this cover are a bass/baritone and a tenor and not two tenors. It's always stunning because, as you pointed out, they sound as if they are only one voice instead of two. I forget everything you've reacted to so far, so forgive me if this is repetitive requestion for Home Free's covers of "Crazy" and "When a Man Loves a Woman." Thanks for the reactions. (also great to see you with Jacob Restituto; thanks for showing him around here in Texas).
If you haven't already (and I didn't see it on your video list), you need to hear When a Man Loves a Woman. Austin takes the lead and absolutely owns it. It will give you a more complete understanding of his vocal abilities.

Austin’s voice is such a rich tenor and Adam Rupp’s abilities are out of this world good. Saw them in concert a week ago. Just amazing. Love to watch the reviews. ❤
One of my all time favorite Crosby Stills & Nash songs, and Home Free does an amazing job with it. In particular I like it because Adam (world class vocal percussionist that he is) is part of the harmonies and Chance sings part of the lead which he doesn't often get to do. He is normally in the role of the baritone-glue, albeit with incredible range.
I remember way back when thinking that Simon and Garfunkel’s harmonies were perfect. This performance is the first time I’ve thought that in recent times. Exquisite.
Isn’t this beautiful?!! One of my favorites of theirs. Their harmonies are killer. Tim Foust is the bass with the long dark hair. Tim is the one with the 5 octave range. Angels We Have Heard On High, Do You Hear What I Hear, O Holy Night are some of my favorites. They also don’t mind being goofy and have fun songs too. Great reaction Danielle!
You can get another take on their harmony skills with their version of How Great Thou Art. That was the first song of theirs I heard and it got me hooked. For one more take on their harmonies, Auld Lang Syne is also brilliant. Maybe save that one for December.
This is one of my favorites! I agree it's much too short haha if you really want to see the range these guys have as individual vocalists check out their cover of Mayday! Now that you're more used to their sound it will shock you for sure!
Covers at separate ends of the spectrum that are true ear candy.... End of the road (Boyz to Men) and Mayday (Cam). These guys covered them both and honestly knocked it out of the park. The respect they show original artists with their covers by being true to the song, yet making it their own is amazing. Subscription Squad
It is just a crying shame that these guys do not have a mantle full of grammys. They are generational-awesome!

You can get another take on their harmony skills with their version of How Great Thou Art. That was the first song of theirs I heard and it got me hooked. For one more take on their harmonies, Auld Lang Syne is also brilliant. Maybe save that one for December.
I also got hooked on them by How Great Thou Art manyyyy years ago.
The verse right after you commented on him holding the note, he holds it for the whole next verse. They are insanely good.
Really enjoyed watching this your excitement is contagious
My absolute favorite by these guys.
Impatiently Waiting.
Is this not just the most beautiful thing you have ever heard?
GREAT REACTION VIDEO!
Excellent job
We Love Home Free!
You are going to love the harmonies of this video #Subscriptionsquad
I’ve always loved the alliterative lyrics. Crosby, Stills and Nash at their finest. ❤
Please continue on into the Home Free rabbit hole. Enjoy the ride.
This is one of my favorites! I agree it's much too short haha if you really want to see the range these guys have as individual vocalists check out their cover of Mayday! Now that you're more used to their sound it will shock you for sure!
I didn’t know that they covered this song. Excellent! Thanks for posting.
Great reaction
Alot of people don't here that tim is still going at 4:47 and holding it to around 4:58 of that verse. Just great!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for doing Home Free! I love your reactions! ^i^
Home Free is the best. I want to see them live before they quit touring.
They are just phenomenal ❤
They are flawless!
Perfection and have ear gasms every time I hear this. Better than original in my book. Great reaction.
This selection by Home Free is the epitome of A Capella perfection.
I'm glad you listened to this one. I figured you would enjoy it and yes it's not long enough but the original is short also. Great reaction.
Ive loved this song since CSN.
This… melts me
Come on it’s Austin doing the high notes you know this already!!!
Im so in love with this woman!😍😍😍
