The heartwood is bright yellow with a greenish tint when fresh, turning golden brown on exposure, then darkening to deep brown. Max diameter is about 12”/0.3m. When I make candle or tea light holder I always put a plastic LED one in and mark it “LED ONLY” if they chose to put a real flame in it, then you are in the clear when they burn their house down as they aren’t using it ‘as designed’. The led tea light candles are cheap on eBay.

When I make candle or tea light holder I always put a plastic LED one in and mark it “LED ONLY” if they chose to put a real flame in it, then you are in the clear when they burn their house down as they aren’t using it ‘as designed’. The led tea light candles are cheap on eBay.
Hi Lee...
Thank you very much for your input... good advice...
I don't know why I didn't think of it myself.. I have a couple of LEDs..
So I hunted them down and you will see one in my next video... it's a good one I think !!

Hard wood with a smooth finish really accentuates the “FOG” wood (found on ground).
Hi Trurex007...
I just wish that I had a load more of it... I still don't know where I got it... Haha...

Great piece of wood Andy, look at the grain in it! I agree that sometimes a simple shape is all that is needed. I like the way the long cove cuts through the rings to give those circles. I’ve got some laburnum logs that had papery bark and the wood looks similar too. Hope you find out what it is!
Great video, thanks for sharing 🤓
Hi Lee...
Thank you very much...
Yes it is definitely Laburnum... beautiful wood for sure...
I totally agree with you.. simple designs always look good...

When I don't know the kind of wood that I am turning I call it "Ditch Wood". It is a piece of wood I found in the ditch.
Hi Bob...
Well that's as good a description as any other...
It turned out to be Laburnum wood...

Beautiful piece of wood Andy I love the grain and finish - lovely simple design - I thought it might have been Elder but looks too hard for that - could it be Oak?
Hi Paully...
I'm glad that you liked it...I also like simple designs ...it is a beautiful piece of wood...
Definitely Laburnum...
