Heavy Trains on KiwiRail's Main Trunk Line (4K)

  • In this video we chase KiwiRail's freight trains on the central section of the Main Trunk Line in New Zealand. We see trains 391T, 234, 225, and 251, as far south as Hunterville and far north as Waiteti. The highlight of the chase for sure was 234 descending the Raurimu Spiral, and a few minutes later a 2000 tonne 225 climbing it.
    Interestingly to note on 234 was an EA goods wagon, CG malt wagon, and two sets of DC class bogies near the rear of the train. If I find out what these were for or where they were going, I will update the description in due course.

    2,ooo tonne is not a heavy train it is only a light weight
