This song gave me just a bit of relief and perseverance through a really rough decade long season of anxiety and depression, on the point of a few breaks. Praise God for U2 and their ministry through music.
Just came back to this song after not listening to it for ages and everything you said resonates so well with me too. Glad you held on. There's always hope. 🙏
Love this song. Came out around the time my dad passed (actually Bono's dad passed not long before mine) and I can't hear it without thinking of him and that time. The lyrics seemed so fitting: "You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been; a place that has to be believed to be seen." Walk on, Dad. ❤
That's exactly what I feel about this song, too!❤ Great lyrics, great melody! Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry, you are great and I love you since I first listened to a U2-song as a child in 87! ❤❤❤❤
I recently heard this song playing while I was at the rescue shelter where I volunteer and TBH, I can't think of a song that would have done a better job of giving me the comfort and encouragement I needed.
This song got me through treatment for cancer. I'd listen to the CD while the chemo dripped into my veins, but Walk On kept me going. I skipped a treatment to see them in Nov 2001 for the 6th time. Anyone who saw that tour after September, well, you had to be there.
After 30 years as a fan, I remain OBSESSED with them! The poetry of Bono's/U2's lyrics & vocals.... so intentional and they take every release very seriously!!! God, they will always be my favorite!!!
Man this reduced me to tears, it eases heartbreak and gives us hope and strength to continues forwards, don't give up, don't give in, you'll reach the light that's deep within.
“You’re packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been, a place that has to be believed to be seen” One day we’re all going to walk on, and when that happens, what we’ve got in this world, money, fame, possessions, power, isn’t going to matter - what matters is hope, faith, and love. May God bless you U2, and I am looking forward to an eternity with you!
I can relate to this comment as a few years back I went through a rough time myself as I had to walk on from loneliness due to that I moved through another country and I had to let go of my friends and trusty environment, and as reality hit me that I wasn’t there anymore loneliness kicked in and it hit me but on the other hand music helped me to walk on my path in life. It made me stronger in a way and now I feel much better and as such I use music now to motivate me and to keep going instead of bringing me in a negative and lonely mood like before.
That melancholic organ accompanied by the voice of Bono, takes you to somewhere you've never been with your soul. Edge always master that guitar....he simply makes it cry.
I first listened to this song when I bought the U2 album All that You Cant Leave Behind back in 2002 while traveling through New Zealand and Australia. This was the song in the album that hit me the most, and each time I listen to it brings back amazing memories. U2 was and is still my favourite band to this day.
This song literally saved my life in 2000. From jail, a destructive and toxic relationship and much more. The first time I listened to this song, I knew where I had to go. And I did. Thank you. Walk on ❤️

I was going through a tough period when this song came out, found very beautiful and heartbreaking to hear as I played it every day. Years later it took on another meaning, while today I listen to it without the sadness. It doesn't move me anymore, still a wonderful tune though.
So true! On May 10th I'm playing/watching U2 all day and night. It's Bono's 60th birthday and it's been 37 years since I saw them at Woolsey Hall in New Haven Connecticut.
Joaquin Wells, exactly how I feel too. We all go through tough times in life. We gotta walk, though for me it’s run on, walking is too slow for me. I take U2s music speaks to me in all ways I see it and the way people see it, we all see it differently. I love U2 so much I listen to them everyday! Dream of seeing them live! Meeting them, they’re an extended family to me.
I heard this song first in the FRIENDS farewell clip, where the cast said goodbye and all, and a montage was shown of the shows best moments. It's like they WANTED you to burst into tears. Beautiful song!
Just now figuring out the importance of those opening lyrics. There is a lot going on in this guys head. So thankful that he was able to express it on such a big stage.

U2 was one of the largest influences for healing post 9/11 in the USA. This song was one of the anthems. The concerts they performed the year of 2001, they performed with all of their hearts. It definitely showed.

I watched Roswell for the first time 4 years ago when I was already 30 years old. This song came on during the finale of season 2 and I cried like a child. It brought me right back to 2001 and 2002 and I remembered everything so vividly... Those were simpler times, I was a teen excited about life, dreaming about falling in love, about going to college, watching Friends, Charmed, Buffy and Dawson's Creek. Listening to the Offspring, Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne. My parents were big U2 fans so their songs were always playing in the car. It makes me chuckle because of how corny everything was. But I sure wish I could experience it all again. Life didn't turn out to be the way I dreamt it back then, it's actually been very painful so it's a constant comfort having these songs to go back to. They make the pain a little easier to bear.
When i was a teenager, i liked u2 a lot. Then i bacame older, and i turned into a man who doesn't like anything. When i heard u2 i felt no emotions, and i thought, that i used to like it bcz i was just a kid. Now after years of struggling in my life (crime, prison, anger, addictions, wrong lifestyle in all possible ways), thinking life makes no sense, i all of a sudden woke up one day, and started to fight back. Suddenly i realised, that all those "stupid" things that people around me do, like wakin up early, going to work, goin to bed early, not bein addicted to every shit possible, to behave decently.. are things, take make a human soul happy. And then, out of nowhere, came the thought, that i should play myself a u2 song. I can tell you, listening to it now feels like a new day has come, after a 20 years long night... a real blessing. Thank you god, for giving us this band.
This song became one of the unofficial anthems of the 9/11 period. If you lived through that day and were old enough to understand its significance, you never forget where you were or how you felt. That day and the days after, how you felt. This was a beautiful song at the right moment.
This is a classic. My second cat died suddenly just like her brother. Those cats got me through so much depression, etc. and I am going to never forget them. Rest in Peace.
Fifteen years on I clearly remember buying the album with this song the same day I bought Dylan's Love and Theft. Just possibly my best CD buying day ever.
Thank you U2 for standing with the people of Myanmar and for oppressed people everywhere. This song is particularly relevant now with the military coup and arrest of democratically elected leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
"Arkada bırakamadığın her şeyin üzerine git"..
This is one of my favorite U2 songs, it takes me back to this year’s vacation to Dublin, which was my very first time in Ireland with two mates of mine. I’ll definitely go back one day. It’s such a beautiful country Ireland
I remember this song as a teenager... when it first came out... i was almost ready to leave my family home... and this song did both for me... think about leaving and staying... finally I stayed and I’m glad I did
I can't agree more to call them a band, is an understatement, U2 has been book marks to almost all chapters of my life from peer pressure, family disfunctions, seasons, trials with education, milestones such as graduations, tests, and the daily growth spurts, aging, dreams, relationships, worldwide news and historical patterns etc, U2 was the elixir to my recipe for life.
+Katherine Reyna I love U2 so much and has been part of so many important and difficult moments of my life that sometimes I can't listen to the songs because the memories are to hard to think about. It's almost cathartic so I save for moments when I'm ready to deal with the emotions. I'll be forever grateful. Some things we can't even explain and I'm happy today to read your words. These men deserve all the love so the hate don't get them. lol
Mt: 17 years ago, perhaps, but now?! Sounds like you need to get in a time capsule and beam up to 2017. COLDPLAY, for one, is a MUCH bigger band these days.
Amazing video , really covers the main spectacular areas of Rio having just been there , U2 are a very special band and they get jealousy and hate because of how good and confident they are
*LETRAS/LYRICS* Walk On And love is not the easy thing Is the only baggage that you can bring Love is not the easy thing The only baggage you can bring Is all that you can't leave behind And if the darkness is to keep us apart And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off And if your glass heart should crack And for a second you turn back Oh, no, be strong Walk on! Walk on! What you got, they can't steal it No, they can't even feel it Walk on! Walk on! Stay safe tonight You're packing a suitcase for a place None of us has been A place that has to be believed to be seen You could have flown away A singing bird in an open cage Who will only fly, only fly for freedom Walk on! Walk on! What you got, they can't deny it Can't sell it, or buy it Walk on! Walk on! You stay safe tonight And I know it aches How your heart it breaks You can only take so much Walk on! Walk on! Home! Hard to know what it is If you never had one Home! I can't say where it is But I know I'm going Home! That's where the hurt is And I know it aches And your heart, it breaks And you can only take so much Walk on! You've got to leave it behind: All that you fashion All that you make All that you build All that you break All that you measure All that you feel All this you can leave behind All that you reason, it's only time And I'll never fill up all I find All that you sense All that you scheme All you dress-up All that you've seen All you create All that you wreck All that you hate
Amor y paz ❤️

One of the greatest opening guitar riffs of all time. And that chorus... the definition of an anthem. Means so much to so many.
The Edge makes his guitar speak so well. The lyrics & melodies come wafting out in between the strings & his fingers 🎶 Walk On🎶✌
How about the haunting riffs of "With or Without You"?

They brought cancer survivors on stage for this one at Spartan Stadium. Legendary. Walk on my friends.
THE GREATEST rock band of all time by a country mile
knownpleasures so right!!!
An Irish country mile and that's.......loooonnnnnggggggg!!!!!!!!
I agree! Greetings from GERMANY Berlin! !!!
Not true. U2 is the most overrated band of all time. U had the right sentence but one word was incorrect
Thin Lizzy the best band to ever come out of Ireland.
U2 here in Brazil!! Some memories! We love you guys! Come back when everything is ok, right?
This song became one of the unofficial anthems of the 9/11 period. If you lived through that day and were old enough to understand its significance, you never forget where you were or how you felt. That day and the days after, how you felt. This was a beautiful song at the right moment.
I was rt there in the black smoke most of the day, mostly helping people in the chaos till I got a ferry out of south Street seaport. Walk on
Absolute favourite u2 song. Really puts everything into perspective, and there aren’t many songs that do that.
These guys were here in Brazil! U2 is one of the best. I´d love meeting them in Rio de janeiro streets.
This song makes me feel closer to a better place.
2020 anyone? One of my favorite songs from U2.
Now we need song like this...
Here!
One of my favorite songs ever!!
Yeeeees
Always actual. Revisiting U2. Always brillant. This is my favorite. Fantastic to record the video in Rio.
This is a classic. My second cat died suddenly just like her brother. Those cats got me through so much depression, etc. and I am going to never forget them. Rest in Peace.
Viva.o.rock.sempre.e.eternamente
Fifteen years on I clearly remember buying the album with this song the same day I bought Dylan's Love and Theft. Just possibly my best CD buying day ever.
Thank you U2 for standing with the people of Myanmar and for oppressed people everywhere. This song is particularly relevant now with the military coup and arrest of democratically elected leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
" Walk On. Walk On. What you got they cant deny it."
Walk On Julie. The suffering will pass. Our Blessings will be never ending.. .💖💜.
I heard this song for the 1st time on 9/11 I was laying in bed with the radio on.. and the line stay safe tonight gets me everytime
Sherry Thomas Michael

One of U2's best. Wish the outro was 20 seconds longer!
March 2020; we will all Walk On and get through this! ❤️
"Arkada bırakamadığın her şeyin üzerine git"..
Larry's best drumming I think, well recorded, sound it right upfront
I just love this song, this band, these men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And this video was made in my country Brazil.
This is one of my favorite U2 songs, it takes me back to this year’s vacation to Dublin, which was my very first time in Ireland with two mates of mine. I’ll definitely go back one day. It’s such a beautiful country Ireland
They truly changed my life 43 years ago. Saw me through 3 significant deaths. I'll love them until I stop breathing.

+anja jeah
+bryan mcdade yes I don't think these days are any different than when I was a teenager listening to those bands 25 Yeats ago. u?
The edge makes his guitar cry on this song it's amazing
Amazing video , really covers the main spectacular areas of Rio having just been there , U2 are a very special band and they get jealousy and hate because of how good and confident they are
Freaking masterpiece
This is carrying me through some of the hardest times 😢ever. I'm going to sing Bono this week and I hope I do this song justice
what's not to like abt their songs? most of them are masterpiece.
Anyone else think U2 tracks are aging like a fine wine?

*LETRAS/LYRICS*
Walk On
And love is not the easy thing
Is the only baggage that you can bring
Love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind
And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh, no, be strong
Walk on! Walk on!
What you got, they can't steal it
No, they can't even feel it
Walk on! Walk on!
Stay safe tonight
You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Walk on! Walk on!
What you got, they can't deny it
Can't sell it, or buy it
Walk on! Walk on!
You stay safe tonight
And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on! Walk on!
Home!
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one
Home!
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going
Home!
That's where the hurt is
And I know it aches
And your heart, it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on!
You've got to leave it behind:
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason, it's only time
And I'll never fill up all I find
All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress-up
All that you've seen
All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate
Edge's guitar sounds amazing in this song
Yeah, that pretty white Telecaster :-)
Agreed x
Always has been.
That’s what heaven will sound like if I ever get there.
Edge gets the best tone
Legends. Blessings from SA
