There are definitely movies that are AWFULLY good. The Predator (2018) is not one of them. A prime example of what studio interference can do to ruin a film. Glad Prey was able to redeem this franchise in a strong way.

Having seen the film multiple times, and read both the novelization, as well as the first draft of the script, here’s some insight into things that were cut/rewritten Original 2016 Script: -There’s another “Loonie” named Cutter, who is in a wheelchair, whom the group goes to upon escaping with the bus. He supplies the crew with the RV and their weapons. He would survive the film as he’s not active in the climax. -Lynch is actually named Nettles, The Nettles character being called “Flyboy” -Sterling K Brown’s character answers to a character named General Woodhurst, played by Edward James Almos, who shot all of his scenes, but all of which were cut. -You’ll notice how it randomly goes from night to day during the climax, and this is because there’s an entire act of the film between these two points that was removed. In all three existing versions of the story, the characters end up at the Predator ship, where Traeger threatens to kill Rory. Only in the original cut of the film, Once Rory is brought into the ship, the pods the Predator was carrying open, revealing several Predator/animal hybrids who proceed to kill Traeger’s men. Traeger dies minutes later as Woodhurst shoots him in the head. He reveals himself as a good guy, who takes the characters to a military base, Predator ship in tow, Where he reveals he knows why the first Predator was here, and he was bringing the “ark” full of hybrids to Earth so that they couldn’t be used in humanity. This is where we find out about two other Predators who are living in the base; Refugees on the side of the fugitive Predator who want to help humanity. The base is attacked by the hybrids, The Loonies having to escort the Predators via convoy to their ship, which is most of the loonies originally die. Glimpses of this sequence are actually shown in the first trailers of the film. They get to the ship, in the middle of a baseball field, but ultimately the refugee predators die which makes it kind of pointless. This is where the Super Predator kidnaps Rory, just as in the film, taking off in the ship over the forest This is where the main reshoots end, as the three surviving loonies jump on the ship just like in the film. The Predator ship is actually intercepted by military jets during the sequence, all of which are destroyed. Nebraska is killed when a shot from one of the jets hits the ship, vaporizing him, Which would’ve been very underwhelming. Film ends in the woods after the Super Predator is killed, and Dutch arrives in a helicopter to recruit the characters. Arnold ultimately refused to do the cameo, so it was never shot. Reports suggest test audiences didn’t like the hybrid storyline, and likely, how nearly the whole cast dies during the convoy sequence, hence why it was cut, and with it, the whole reason for why the Predator was here in the first place, a new 3rd act being filmed, hence why it all happens so fast, Leaving what was once a major plot point in the Predator ship, to be resolved as a pre credit scene. Shane Black would go on to claim these reshoots were simply meant to take the climax that was filmed in the day, and do it again at night. Which based on what is now known, was likely a cover story. To reiterate how last minute the movie was redone, the toy company NECA actually manufactured and released figures for the Refugee Predators (called Emissary Predators), which are still available for purchase despite them not being in the movie at all. The novelization which was released a few weeks before the film, is based on the rewritten draft that is essentially the movie, but quite revealingly shows there was a second round of reshoots, as there are countless key differences: -There is no mention of global warming in the novel, showing these lines were added later -The scene with Casey and the creep at the park is present -The Loonies’ superpower of summoning vehicles is explained, Nebraska stealing the cop car from the cop responding the house Rory blows up, The RV full of weapons being bought by Lynch at the motel in exchange for the motorcycles, hence why there’s random confederate flags all over its interior. -Jake Busey’s character dies, the Predator ripping his head off, and using it to open a door. The Predator who dies at the school isn’t killed on the car, Rather he is lynched inside the school by the Super Predator, to the point where he is decapitated. -Traeger’s death via shoulder canon is explained. His leg is set on fire from the super Predator, and seeing it, makes him panic, triggering the gun to fire, killing him. -Traeger doesn’t shoot the soldier who loses his arm, rather the soldier stays behind and is killed by the Predator -Coyle distracts the Super Predator with another joke “What’s the difference between a golf ball and a clitoris?” But he doesn’t say get to say punchline which he remembers is: *A guy may actually find the golfball* -Keegan Michael Key isn’t disemboweled by the Predator, instead only losing a leg. And instead of shooting eachother, Coyle shoots Baxley while he’s impaled, before dying himself. -Nebraska’s death once again happens on the force field of the ship, only he simply slides off and dies. So the final version in the film is actually superior, giving his death purpose. -Upon defeating the Super Predator, the novel ends with them looking up into the sky, McKenna saying “Come and Get us Motherf*ckers” This is also shown in the trailer for the film. This means the new scene with the suit in the pod was shot well after the book was finished, and rushed together with less than two months of the film’s release. There were obviously two other versions of the scene shot, one with Newt, and with Ripley. My guess, is that with the storyline with the hybrids/Refugee Predators cut entirely, they needed to add more dialogue to give new context as to why the Predator came here. Also, it may have been a last minute attempt to get a wider audience by making the film “Pro-Environment”
When I first saw Keegan-Michael Key in the movie, I thought of the Mad TV skit where he was jumping at the cinema saying that Alien versus Predator was "CRAZY AS HELL!"

I was so hyped for this knowing Shane black was helming it I don't totally blame him for the mess it ended up being but obviously the studio giving this a massive budget to begin with was a huge mistake.
I saw this in theaters (hey, it released on my birthday 🤦🏾♂️) and I had THEE damnedest time figuring out what happened to Treager. 🤣🤣 I was like, “Why did he disappear all of a sudden?” What a lame way for him to go out. 😭😭😭
This film was such a let down. Fox obviously did their part in ruining it, but even if Shane Black got to make the full film he wanted, you could just tell it was going to suck. It never resembled a Predator film. You would think someone so intimately involved in the first film, he would get what made it so good. This isn’t a buddy cop, team up, joke fest franchise. He’s great at that stuff, but, man.. read the room. The blueprint was laid there for you with Predator and Predator 2.. live in that space and you’ll be good. For the hate that Predators gets, at least that felt like a predator film, but this thing was just trash. With Prey, they showed you how effective a small, intimate hunt film could be, because they understood what made the the original so loved and said “ok let’s do something like that” and boom, you got a hit. I don't think the producers of 'Prey' fully understood what the essence of the first two Predator films is. They have to preserve the mystique of the Predators, which they didn't do by making it move and fight like a human.

It think it’s on par with part 1 & 2 considering they could do more with the Predator with the use of cgi on top of the practicals where as the original two had to mask a lot with camera angles etc just to put the best product out possible with where they were at at the time technically. If Hopkins and McTiernan made their films today, I’m sure you would see similar actions simply because they have the tools to do so. “Predators” took the less is more approach with the way they used the predators and many felt that film suffered for it. Prey did a great job of balancing what the original did while giving the audience of today something they’re accustomed to.
Prey’s National Geographic Predator was refreshing, despite the Wile E. Coyote end fight. As for shane black’s revenge project based on his hate of having a quickly killed off part in the original, it sucked. Enter Social Services Predator who has a masterpiece of a plan to snatch a kid. Oook. 😐

Now story… that’s something else There’s nothing wrong with using creative ideas from outside media (like comics) if it makes a good story. Look at Marvel movies. They use ideas from whole comic arcs that aren’t really comic accurate, sometimes multiple arcs in one. But the shit sells. Story is pretty good. Dialogue is another thing, that completely depends on who it is writing. Why make something original when it can be Hit (Prey) or miss (predator 2018)? When there’s at lease several pred comics off the top of my head that would be AMAZING on the big screen.
Yes, yes it is. Unless you include the AvP movies in which case it's the third worst movie in the series. The terrible humour, the subpar action, the dull stereotypical characters and the idiocy of some kind of genetic manipulation using human DNA. This is what happens when you try to make concepts like the Terminator, Aliens and Predator more than they truly are; Movie Monsters.
Wow, you put this above AVP? AVP has its flaws but I consider it to be leagues above this film. It contains likeable characters. The plot makes sense. It doesn't rewrite any history. And, as a small bonus for people who like practical effects, the alien Queen puppet had double the moving parts of the Jurrasic Park T-Rex. Overall, its a good 6 out of 10. The Predator, on the other hand, can only get above 3 out of 10 if you start enjoying some of the parts of the film ironically.
@@canislupusfool Its a debate to be had. My disappoint with AvP series stems from its setting and contrived story. Once again trying to give the Predators/Yautja some kind of hokey connection to humanity beyond us just being good prey. The setting is also awful as it makes little sense geographically, geologically, historically, etc. Also from the fact that it did not deliver what I feel the majority of people wanted to see; Aliens vs Predator vs Colonial Marines. The fact that they did not use any of the comics, books or games as inspiration was very disheartening. And then there is the design of the stumpy and chubby Predators. At least Requiem brought back the proper design for the Yautja and actually featured some cool gadgets. In the end putting The Predator above AvP is really like placing a, and pardon me for the colorful term here, a dog turd on top of a pile of bullshit. They are all terrible.
To be fair if one were to read the comics and novels: The Predators are the most complex alien races ever. They’re interesting as villains but more interesting if they’re depicted as anti-heroes. Hell, they’re the last line of defense against the Xenomorphs in the AVP comics and there would be squads of Preds and Marines working with each other.
Still worse than the AP movies, in my opinion. The humor was worse. The characters were more cliche and cringeworthy. The decisions were vastly worse, both in universe and without. The Predator's actions were by far less intelligent and more nonsensicle. The blink-and-you miss it killing of Sterling Brown's character was one of the worst thing in any of the Predator movies , ever. Worst. Ever.
That’d be too complicated. How would they know earth’s future would fall to sky net? Assuming they have time travel tech (which I wouldn’t doubt they would), they’d have to have a pred go back in time and save either A terminators targets and expose themselves OR hunt a terminator in the shadows , in which case they’d never be seen. If anything they’d love the hunt of terminators as worthy prey, at least some tribes would. It just invites a bad script

The audio in your videos are constantly all over the place. Some of the sound effects blew out my ears because they were so dang loud. Your voiceover is so much quieter than everything, so the effects are insanely loud because the mix isn’t balanced.
Got a kinda wacky impression this film The Predator, like the humor in Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines of Alien 4 Resurrection, not sure if it'll get a similar following decades later.
This movie is so bad. It fluctuates from being boring bad to entertaining bad. The action scenes are weak but the dialogue, characters, plot and CGI are even worse. I actually thought that the Fugitive Predator was cool but he got totally wasted when he was killed off so easily by The Ultimate Predator, smh.

The Predators plans of gene splicing to create "Super Predators" to take over Earth is what really turned me off to the movie. The Predators of the previous movie never wanted to take over the world. They were just trophy hunters, hunting down the universe's most dangerous game for sport and killing themselves if sid game defeated them in combat. The ONLY Predator that didn't have this motivation in the franchise was the Wolf Predator from AVP: Requiem, who was tasked with cleaning up the mess that the Predators of the first AVP film created when they brought their fallen comrade back to their ship. He still killed humans, but only those that got in the way of him trying to take out the Predalian and the six Xenomorphs that were originally on the ship. The Predators on general are just proud assholes, and I don't think they'd want to juice themselves up with gene splicing but rather rely on their own skills and tech to take down humans whom they perceive as worthy kills.
I say this everytime there's a video about this installment.. I get wanting dutch in the pod but the more appropriate move would of been to have Adrian Brody or Alice Braga in there... Also instead of a steroided out predator it woulda made more sense for it to be one of the berserker tribe.. plus, it would of flowed better to make the crazies, McKinna's unit from the jump and just have them all get captured in Mexico, then we can have them tell their back stories to Olivia Munn instead... And drop the kid and just make someone on the team the "rain man" who figures out how to operate the tech

There was absolutely NOTHING good about "The Predator". In fact, it ranks up there with movies like "Jaws The Revenge", "Mortal Kombat Annihilation", and "Battlefield Earth" as one of the worst movies of all time.

Key notes, we were of a similar age and he had, i assure you, never seen them. He was just remarkably dumb. He also once claimed to have scored 7 from 5 in a penalty shootout.
I don't know about that. I think The Empire Strikes Back is better than Star Wars. Road Warrior is definitely better than Mad Max. A lot of people think Aliens is better than Alien and T2 is better than Terminator. I'm sure I could think of others, but I think that's enough to call "always" into question.
I remember being so hype about this movie and then being let down in the theatre by the bad comedy and some of the bad cgi. I think the best moment in the film is the fugitive predator escaping the lab. It was cool to see, but the dogs really ruined it & bad cgi.

I had low expectations going into this film but decided to see it just for fun. When this movie ended it was one of the only theater experiences I had where I actually left angry. This movie was so unbelievably stupid it actually pissed me off for wasting my money.
I just watched The Predator and Predators the other week for ths first time, and i like The Predator way more. Predators is boring and takes itself way too seriously. None of the characters are likable or relatable. I think people only think its better than The Predator because its not as goofy. But thats part.of the charm of The Predator. Its a good bad movie. The supporting cast is likable, and its laugh out loud funny. Its not without its faults, but i thought it was way more fun and has.more rewatch value than Predators
naaah for me was a very fun to watch movie!! Why do you always have to look for the MASTERPIECE? This movie had nice and funny characters, good action scenes, very nice cgi (on home cinema a great audio and video) many parts were a lil bit ''stupid'' yet funny... Overall a good film, above all as blockbuster!
You'll think I'm insane, but I actually LOVE this movie! It's soooo stupid and sooooo bad, it's like an auto-parody of itself. I mean, there's only one Predator movie, the original; every attempt at sequels failed miserably, because they for real tried to do a sequel to a one-off movie. Predator only worked in the original, where it was this mysterious thing tracking Arnie&Co., you can't make it work again after it was revealed there in 1987. Because the Predator is in fact a silly monster from outer space with silly face and equally silly motivation. What made the original work was the mystery and of course the cast and innovative visual effects. So, out of all sequels, this one is the most entertaining. Frank Drekker also did Night of the Creeps, which was also in a way a parody of 80s horror movies. This movie has the same vibe. I freaking love it! I'll never say it's a good movie, mind you. But entertaining? Hell yeah! Also: Prey is beautifully shot, I'll give it that. But otherwise it was just another silly sequel, kinda boring at times. I'll never watch it again. This one, on the other hand? At least once a year, when I feel like watching a stupid comedy!

I was so hyped for this knowing Shane black was helming it I don't totally blame him for the mess it ended up being but obviously the studio giving this a massive budget to begin with was a huge mistake.

It's a crying shame. When I first heard about it, I thought it would be a group of soldiers in a forest being hunted. But this ... I have no words.
Honestly, I would have loved the idea of the two Emissary Predators a lot more than whatever that ending was.
This film was such a let down. Fox obviously did their part in ruining it, but even if Shane Black got to make the full film he wanted, you could just tell it was going to suck.
It never resembled a Predator film. You would think someone so intimately involved in the first film, he would get what made it so good. This isn’t a buddy cop, team up, joke fest franchise. He’s great at that stuff, but, man.. read the room. The blueprint was laid there for you with Predator and Predator 2.. live in that space and you’ll be good. For the hate that Predators gets, at least that felt like a predator film, but this thing was just trash. With Prey, they showed you how effective a small, intimate hunt film could be, because they understood what made the the original so loved and said “ok let’s do something like that” and boom, you got a hit.

I don't think the producers of 'Prey' fully understood what the essence of the first two Predator films is. They have to preserve the mystique of the Predators, which they didn't do by making it move and fight like a human.

It think it’s on par with part 1 & 2 considering they could do more with the Predator with the use of cgi on top of the practicals where as the original two had to mask a lot with camera angles etc just to put the best product out possible with where they were at at the time technically. If Hopkins and McTiernan made their films today, I’m sure you would see similar actions simply because they have the tools to do so. “Predators” took the less is more approach with the way they used the predators and many felt that film suffered for it. Prey did a great job of balancing what the original did while giving the audience of today something they’re accustomed to.
Prey’s National Geographic Predator was refreshing, despite the Wile E. Coyote end fight. As for shane black’s revenge project based on his hate of having a quickly killed off part in the original, it sucked. Enter Social Services Predator who has a masterpiece of a plan to snatch a kid. Oook. 😐

There’s nothing wrong with using creative ideas from outside media (like comics) if it makes a good story. Look at Marvel movies. They use ideas from whole comic arcs that aren’t really comic accurate, sometimes multiple arcs in one. But the shit sells. Story is pretty good. Dialogue is another thing, that completely depends on who it is writing. Why make something original when it can be Hit (Prey) or miss (predator 2018)? When there’s at lease several pred comics off the top of my head that would be AMAZING on the big screen.

This is what happens when you try to make concepts like the Terminator, Aliens and Predator more than they truly are; Movie Monsters.
Wow, you put this above AVP? AVP has its flaws but I consider it to be leagues above this film. It contains likeable characters. The plot makes sense. It doesn't rewrite any history. And, as a small bonus for people who like practical effects, the alien Queen puppet had double the moving parts of the Jurrasic Park T-Rex. Overall, its a good 6 out of 10.
The Predator, on the other hand, can only get above 3 out of 10 if you start enjoying some of the parts of the film ironically.

My disappoint with AvP series stems from its setting and contrived story. Once again trying to give the Predators/Yautja some kind of hokey connection to humanity beyond us just being good prey. The setting is also awful as it makes little sense geographically, geologically, historically, etc.
Also from the fact that it did not deliver what I feel the majority of people wanted to see; Aliens vs Predator vs Colonial Marines. The fact that they did not use any of the comics, books or games as inspiration was very disheartening.
And then there is the design of the stumpy and chubby Predators. At least Requiem brought back the proper design for the Yautja and actually featured some cool gadgets.
In the end putting The Predator above AvP is really like placing a, and pardon me for the colorful term here, a dog turd on top of a pile of bullshit. They are all terrible.
To be fair if one were to read the comics and novels: The Predators are the most complex alien races ever. They’re interesting as villains but more interesting if they’re depicted as anti-heroes. Hell, they’re the last line of defense against the Xenomorphs in the AVP comics and there would be squads of Preds and Marines working with each other.
Still worse than the AP movies, in my opinion.
The humor was worse.
The characters were more cliche and cringeworthy.
The decisions were vastly worse, both in universe and without.
The Predator's actions were by far less intelligent and more nonsensicle.
The blink-and-you miss it killing of Sterling Brown's character was one of the worst thing in any of the Predator movies , ever.

That’d be too complicated. How would they know earth’s future would fall to sky net? Assuming they have time travel tech (which I wouldn’t doubt they would), they’d have to have a pred go back in time and save either A terminators targets and expose themselves OR hunt a terminator in the shadows , in which case they’d never be seen. If anything they’d love the hunt of terminators as worthy prey, at least some tribes would.

The audio in your videos are constantly all over the place. Some of the sound effects blew out my ears because they were so dang loud. Your voiceover is so much quieter than everything, so the effects are insanely loud because the mix isn’t balanced.

This movie is so bad. It fluctuates from being boring bad to entertaining bad. The action scenes are weak but the dialogue, characters, plot and CGI are even worse. I actually thought that the Fugitive Predator was cool but he got totally wasted when he was killed off so easily by The Ultimate Predator, smh.

This movie was so disappointing. I remember my best and me walking out disgusted, yet unsurprised.
I blame 3 elements for this movie's failure: The filmmakers, the studio mandates and the initial whiny ass internet outcry.
And what about the latest film prey. Prey was just boring asf. Shouldnt of even made that movie. 2018 was wayyt better then the 2022 film.
The Predators plans of gene splicing to create "Super Predators" to take over Earth is what really turned me off to the movie. The Predators of the previous movie never wanted to take over the world. They were just trophy hunters, hunting down the universe's most dangerous game for sport and killing themselves if sid game defeated them in combat. The ONLY Predator that didn't have this motivation in the franchise was the Wolf Predator from AVP: Requiem, who was tasked with cleaning up the mess that the Predators of the first AVP film created when they brought their fallen comrade back to their ship. He still killed humans, but only those that got in the way of him trying to take out the Predalian and the six Xenomorphs that were originally on the ship. The Predators on general are just proud assholes, and I don't think they'd want to juice themselves up with gene splicing but rather rely on their own skills and tech to take down humans whom they perceive as worthy kills.

I say this everytime there's a video about this installment.. I get wanting dutch in the pod but the more appropriate move would of been to have Adrian Brody or Alice Braga in there... Also instead of a steroided out predator it woulda made more sense for it to be one of the berserker tribe.. plus, it would of flowed better to make the crazies, McKinna's unit from the jump and just have them all get captured in Mexico, then we can have them tell their back stories to Olivia Munn instead... And drop the kid and just make someone on the team the "rain man" who figures out how to operate the tech

I remember being so hype about this movie and then being let down in the theatre by the bad comedy and some of the bad cgi. I think the best moment in the film is the fugitive predator escaping the lab. It was cool to see, but the dogs really ruined it & bad cgi.

I just watched The Predator and Predators the other week for ths first time, and i like The Predator way more. Predators is boring and takes itself way too seriously. None of the characters are likable or relatable. I think people only think its better than The Predator because its not as goofy. But thats part.of the charm of The Predator. Its a good bad movie. The supporting cast is likable, and its laugh out loud funny. Its not without its faults, but i thought it was way more fun and has.more rewatch value than Predators

You'll think I'm insane, but I actually LOVE this movie! It's soooo stupid and sooooo bad, it's like an auto-parody of itself. I mean, there's only one Predator movie, the original; every attempt at sequels failed miserably, because they for real tried to do a sequel to a one-off movie. Predator only worked in the original, where it was this mysterious thing tracking Arnie&Co., you can't make it work again after it was revealed there in 1987. Because the Predator is in fact a silly monster from outer space with silly face and equally silly motivation. What made the original work was the mystery and of course the cast and innovative visual effects. So, out of all sequels, this one is the most entertaining. Frank Drekker also did Night of the Creeps, which was also in a way a parody of 80s horror movies. This movie has the same vibe. I freaking love it! I'll never say it's a good movie, mind you. But entertaining? Hell yeah!
Also: Prey is beautifully shot, I'll give it that. But otherwise it was just another silly sequel, kinda boring at times. I'll never watch it again. This one, on the other hand? At least once a year, when I feel like watching a stupid comedy!
