My only issue with RTJ is that I haven't found anything as great as they are. Something about the mix of El-P and Mike is pure magic.
My next favorite rap groups after RTJ are Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers.

i've always found it crazy how it took El so long to blow up. he's been doing amazing work since the late 90s, and imo hasn't rapped on/produced a bad album
Carter Penny I'm glad he and Mike are getting attention nowadays (Seems unbelievable, but a good unbelievable), but yeah EL-P has been destroying shit since Company Flow. He has always been considered one of my favorite artists since about 97. Regardless of who is late or early on discovering true talent, I'm just glad these guys are winning. Makes up for all the years where I attempted to share a track like "Stepfather Factory" with people and they would say: "Its a good track, but it makes me think too much and its too scary. How far is he on the charts?". That was real conversation btw. Haha.
yeah i agree.. Although a lot of els solo shit is pretty out there and more "Experimental" (I read in an interview a long time ago that he hates that term.. but I mean listen to fantastic damage that shit is pretty experimental it sounds like nothing else).. But anyways my point is all his shit before wasn't the most accessible and mainly underground people were into it.. But Run the Jewels makes more accessible music (not a bad thing.. i love it) so it makes sense why he'd start blowing up just now. Plus him and mike have great chemistry.
Always thought his verse on The Last Huzzah by Mr Muthafucking Exquire was incredible
I'll sleep is my favorite album of all time. Everything El has done has been dope, I'm glad that he's finally getting his dues. Still waiting for another solo album from him, he's due.

I'm gonna say that Run The Jewels are one of the best rap groups of ALL TIME. Not only from recent eras, but in the entire history of Rap/Hip-Hop. The best? I don't know. Certainly one of the best though.

RTJ got me into rap and I absolutely love El-P and Killer Mike's friendship and I think it's a huge part of what makes their music so special.
RTJ is the one musician/group that i’m totally enthusiastic about to everyone. Like literally I have no qualms about their music. I relate to these fucken records on deep levels, like few others.

This is a great piece, very well thought out. The appeal to me of RTJ is their ability to blend all of their world views, aggression, emotion, wittiness into rap songs that have bars on bars, every album, front to back. And like you said, their chemistry comes through in spades and it's a great feeling to know they're doing it for the love, not a paycheck. The line in Oh Mama "She said 'Don't curse your Mama, god dammit!' and threw a dinner plate" *BAM* "I heard it in Brooklyn where all the sinners stay" finishing each others lines and keeping the same rhyme scheme in their verse, I love that shit. I've only been listening to them since RTJ3 came out, but they're quickly one of my favorite acts right now.

It's awesome how these two, that have been rapping since the early 90s and are both in their 40s, can still make fresh new rap that sounds great. Not many rappers can say that about themselves.

I'm a girl and I like RTJ but I never knew they had a strong female following tbh. I'd say that RTJ is he only rap I can listen to without feeling discomfort. I'm not saying all rap is bad to me, I'm saying that what's the mainstream (or at least what's popular with the people around me) doesn't speak to me.
