The story about the orange got me to chuckle. It also makes an interesting point about how that moment would have been infuriating on a first playthrough but is simply hilarious on a second.

Beautiful video. It really takes spite to create something, to get better at something. Nobody is a harsher critic than your own person.

When I heard you say, "The devil's chimney," my ears immediately perked up as I think that was coined on the NLSS. Later in the show you confirmed it. Glad to see another man of taste. This game was a blast to watch, although I'll admit that I never played it. Games like this and ALT F4 are great watching experiences. You almost feel the same frustration as the person playing it. Without knowing how the controls work, it is definitely one of those games where comments are like, "Just jump 4head."

little correction : s- hiking is not hard to find at all, it has been archived at itch
second, the reason it resonated to most people was not because it was a ''good depiction of hiking'' but rather it was a very unfiltered project from jazzuo, paint textures, glitchy floating platforms that could send you upwards (a speedrunning strat btw) and free images from the internet, yet despite it all it had all of jazzuo cheeky humor all over it, jazzuo being a very interesting figure from the time it released.
when you finished S-hiking you got greeted by a very nice song made by jazzuo himself, meanwhile at getting over it, you participate on a leaderboard...
overall i find it interesting that foddy got inspired by jazzuo's work because unlike s-hiking, getting over it will try to activelly mess with your mouse and make it a bit rng when hiking would let you break the game yet have full control over where you aim.
doesn't help that foddy is incredibly pretentious while jazzuo was a very fun personallity with an incredible talent to express himself
edit : worth mentioning that on the steam page it specifically says ''A game I made For a certain kind of person To hurt them.'' hmmm yep, getting over it and s hiking are on complete different spectrums

Excellent Essay! Getting Over It is a game I don't think I would personally enjoy, but one I respect for being uncompromising with it's design and tying all the difficulty and frustration into a central point. There are games I appreciate for being approachable, and there are games that I wish were more willing to make sacrifices about their difficulty. Yet with Getting Over It, any time I think about a way to make the game easier or less frustrating, it seems like it would be taking something important away from the experience rather than adding to it. It's fascinating.

I get that naturally angry nature where you can wind yourself up if left alone too long. I’m glad you found a healthy way to tackle it. Its a hard path with very individualized solutions.

it's so nice I found your channel, some thoughts you have in this, I had, too. but the way you put it all together is very nice and cathartic to me as well.

Beautiful video, the latter half where you spoke about writing is a poetic treasure.

Im so glad someone is making a serious video about this game. Love it to pieces. Such a great example of a game that manages to both be a fun game and a deep look into philosophy imo.

Let us know here when you do end up putting a novel out, or give me a link if you have and I missed it not being on the bird site. I think your writing is quite nice.
Sounds like you're trying to go through traditional publishers, any reason in particular?

Thanks! I haven't got any fiction available to read unfortunately, but if anything of mine ever does get released I'll definitely make a quick video talking about it for the channel. I don't really have a satisfying answer to your question; partly it's out of spite, partly it's because I'm just not interested in self-publishing, partly it's because to be traditionally published specifically has always been the goal.

@@monotonallizard I think that was a totally satisfactory answer. Goals don't have to make sense :)
      Best of luck with it!

Hi, just another point of conscious awareness pokin' out its shell to say I enjoy your content. I first saw the Jurassic Park video, then this. Videos on TH-cam about video games have moved beyond a guilty pleasure, I now fully accept this as the content I like viewing most. sure I could learn about Rome or the Franks or watch videos about making a jeff bezos boat or walking from Philadelphia to NYC... But something about halo lore I've heard a hundred times over, or the history of world records in wii sports, or this very vid about a guy getting over stuff... Sisyphus yada yada Alan Watts follow your bliss tune in drop out.... I relinquish control of my own destiny and sign over my soul to Vidya game videos...

In regards to writing and publishers/agents, I originally started doing it just for my own personal amusement and over time it grew into something I felt could be more. However once I stopped writing what I wanted and instead tried to write what I felt could get published, it completely killed my love for the process and caused on and off severe writers block for years.
Trying to appease the gatekeepers is a miserable experience, one needs to just write what they feel and hope someone recognizes and appreciates it.

I always think of it like this: you can sell anything to anyone with the right angle, so if they don't think they can sell what you've got that just makes them bad at their jobs.

So, I was looking at one of your old videos and I heard a word, TH-cam captions listed the word as "Time", but you clearly did not say time, but a detail that I can list is that you said it before saying the word "game", so I was wondering what you were referring to?

I respect your opinion and the meaning this game has to people, but i will never be able to view it as anything other than lazy, pretentious trash. I have no issue with the gameplay or difficulty, but Foddys' constant high school philosophy level rambling isn't original, meaningful, or insightful. He muses on nonsense as he insists about how well he understands the player and their feelings, using flowery language to hide the fact he has nothing of note to say. He complains about the lack of attention spans and dumbing down of video games as if he's some revolutionary minority and not just echoing a sentiment that hundreds of gamers comment on everyday.

    • @monotonallizard
      @monotonallizard  หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah, I don't even disagree with you on all that, I just enjoy the game in spite of those things.
