Tbh, besides the creator themselves, it seems like the audience/internet is a huge part as well. Adins views dip, which is normal for someone right after their “blow up” period and his fans say he “fell off”. Some creator does something horrible and within a month their numbers are back. When there’s some huge drama or “beef” we eat it right up. It’s such a weird back and fourth between idolization, vilifying and downplaying that just gives everyone whiplash. I’m not saying people don’t deserve remission or that we should just let someone off with a slap of the wrist. Just that we, as the audience, give creators too much credit, attention, power and/or influence.

What I like is that while disagreeing with some points, you did hold the kid accountable for a lot of his actions. I saw Rage’s video and at every chance he would either justify what he did or just have an excuse. I mean for crying out loud he still couldn’t admit that it was Ross who used the “homophobic F slur”. I’m all for looking out for your friends but true friends hold each other accountable.
