For now, only the steam version is officially supported by MO2 beta, full support for xbox gamepass will arrive shortly. Stay tuned!
Also for GAMEPASS users, note that the right location to browse is xbox games location STARFIELD/CONTENT/
FOR STEAM USERS
(who can't get mods to work through MO2 while having done everything, try following):
There is a Starfield.ini in the game folder (where Starfield.exe is). This file already contains an entry for sResourceDataDirsFinal in [Archive] section, which is following:
sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\
REPLACE IT with following two lines:
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

FOR GAMEPASS USERS: it is not officially supported by Mod Organizer 2 beta as of now.
FIX FOR STEAM USERS: (if mods are not working after having done everything, try following):
There is a Starfield.ini in the game folder (where Starfield.exe is). This file already contains an entry for sResourceDataDirsFinal in [Archive] section, which is following:
sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\

If I didn't scroll down to read your comment I would have given up and played vanilla. Thanks!
am dumb. does that mean gamepass users cannot mod through organizer 2 right now?
For Steam users who can't get mods to work through MO2 while having done everything right (aka the archive invalidation step) : the fix is to modify the Starfield.ini in the game folder (where Starfield.exe is) by changing "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\" in the [Archive] section, to ""sResourceDataDirsFinal=". Then, add :"bInvalidateOlderFiles=1" in the same section. Fix found in the "article" tab of the mod StarUI and written by its author.
thank you alot, i have added this to pinned comment.
Legend! Thank you for writing this, saved the day👍
This fixed a mod for me! Thank you!
didnt work for me no mods are working on my game (using the steam version)
double check your path of game to browse in MO2
Regarding the links provided in the description: The Mod Organizer dev team has asked (and I quote) "Please don't link this externally or upload somewhere else."
And, I would agree, the current beta builds are for testing. They have stated that it is not ready for general release, as it is a work in progress.
of course, we agree thats why the primary given link is discord channel link not direct file link. its beta version, so users are free to try. mirror link is given only coz the discord link is not working for many users. thanks for writing.
Want to add my thank you for showing this walkthrough!
u r welcome
just wanna say thank you for making this video and not linking to any whack viruses or messed up stuff, this worked perfectly and now i see my inventory without wanting to die

It just works 💪 thank you 👍
You're welcome!
Thank you! Great guide!
Glad it was helpful!
Am i the only one who noticed the RUNE folder? Cracked starfield 🤣
no, you are right, this tut is on that version. we have all the versions bought too, but modding is best on this one.
love how he said no virus and proceeds to add creepy ass music during install
lol, thanks for watching.
tks man it work perfectly
You're welcome!
AI Voices are the bane of youtube. It's clear this guy can read/write english...his voice would be wayyyyy better than whatever this is.
lol, u r correct. but the reason is lack of microphone.
Thank you friend

Please no more AI voice.
sorry about that, we dont have mic and also speakable English, lol
Figured that was the case but honestly the AI voice wasn’t too bad I’ve seen worse implementation

@DefaceGames still a very helpful video ♡
AI voice worked perfectly. I had no problem whatsoever with it.
Ive been wondering about this for a bit now and havn't been able to find a proper tutorial on this, but the bat mods that run the console commands. How would I install those on mo2 where would I need to drop the file for it to work on mo2. I have tried a lot of things and those mods are hard to see real changes when I run the game so I haven't been able to pinpoint if ive done it right.
yes, for the bat mods, install them manually, its better. ofcourse those will not be tracked in MO2, but its better. its just if you are using mods, than you are the real mod manager, softwares are all just to assist you :)
Hey so I have some mods installed manually. Like the SFSE and other stuff like that. And when I launch Starfield with the mod manager. They don't work. Do I also download those with the Mod Manager to get them to work? Or do I follow the instructions in the description page (which is what I did)
make sure you use the right version
When i click on the folder where starfield is in, it says dose not seam to contain the game that mods organizer can manage.
make sure you open the folder and then select it, the data folder shud be visible there.
nupe that dosent work @@DefaceGames
which starfield version are you using? steam or gamepass?
@@DefaceGames I fixed it I had an older version of the mo2
nice, enjoy your mods
My mods are loaded (Neutral LUTs, StarUI Inventory, and Undelayed Menus) and none of them work on start. I'm on steam and my game is installed in the same drive as my Mod Organizer. Not sure what to do to get this to work.
make sure your path to browse the game is properly set.
So I'm trying to get to the discord, I click on the link to it and it brings up discord but does NOT bring me to the proper discord page. Tried googling the discord, nothing.
you can use the other mirror link, its given in description below discord link.
I using this with steam, I can see/find the .exe in the folder but MO2 doesn't seem to see it. Will continue to try. TY for you video!
you will learn alot in process. good luck
Ty@@DefaceGames
how do i manually add mods to the mod organizer. a lot of mods seem to be for vortex. some will download but will say content of data does not look valid.
you can easily do that, on nexusmod site, click manual download and that will get you a zip file. in MO2 just use the 2nd icon on top, which says "install from archive", and browse that mod zip file there. enjoy
No problems with the game later? After the official game update is released
nice to hear that.
so im having a few issues
1 the pulggins tab where Data,Saves, downloads are is not showing u[p
2 how do i manage conflictions such as better hud enhanced subs and nasalisation
for conflicts, you need to read those mods description, many modders give data about conflicts, do note that if multiple mods modify same files, then ofc you need to pick one among those.
I've tried everything via Vortex method and none of it has worked... do i have to uninstall all the vortex mods etc then start a fresh via MO2? Its becoming super tedious and quite simply not easy at all... i manually made a custom ini and i downloaded the ini fix mod via vortex... im on steam saved it all too steamapps common starfield... Just isnt working.... Zzz
try the portable instance of MO2, make sure the path of game is correct.
I have been installing mods manually, if I download this will it read and populate with all the mods I've installed?
i dont think it will fetch ur installed mods, as it only keeps track of mods installed thru mod manager
Hi, I have the RUNE version of game, follow all the guide, but any mod seems to be work, what I do wrong??
check the path you select carefully, we have tested it on Rune version, it works fine
When I start my game through mo2 it doesnt recognize my previous saves, it is like i never played, how do I make it work with my previous saves? is it on modify executables? Please help!
try updating the MO2 to latest version.
For the version I downloaded, the default Steam path was wrong. It was preconfigured as ..\Steam\steamapps\Starfield, instead of ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield. It was easy enough to browse to the proper location, though.
cool, i hope its working for u now
I have an issue where I can't use my controller anymore when playing via mod organizer, any workaround for this?
sorry, i think MO2 does not feature support for controller yet.
I'm on Steam. - Not sure why but I can't get on official Discord server. Is the mirror link up to date? TY!
we have updated the mirror link to latest. you can download.
@@DefaceGames Thank you very kindly for your response! All the best to you!
Do I have to download mod manager again if I’m already using it for another game?
yes, coz this one is using newer beta version, you can install multiple mod managers.
What if I already using MO2 for Fallout 4? How or where do I start to mod Starfield using this ?
the MO2 is different for starfield. you need to install another version of it.
Keeps saying when im trying to download the mods that "request failed: host requires authentication" anyway to fix this? im on steam btw.
try to run MO2 as admin, and then do the "associate with MO2" links steps again.
Just downloaded MO2 and at the create instance page during setup, when i go to select games to manage and go to C:\XboxGames\Starfield\Content it doesn't show the starfield exe/application or any files in there, but when i go through Gamepass and browse files it shows the exe in there, does anyone know how to fix this so it shows the exe in the manage games part of MO2? I have all folders visible but just not showing for Gamepas version
sorry, gamepass version is not supported yet
nice to see a 🏴☠ with a rune crack
we have all the versions, steam and gamepass too, but tested the first on rune. lol
wait i cant use ps5 controller with steam now if i run it from mod organizer
sorry, it might be due to the beta version lacking support for controllers. MO2 for starfield is not fully released as of now.
the disscord link doesn't work if you arent in the server. please provide a server link
there is a mirror link already given. plz use that
Use Morgan Freemans voice as your input on the voice ai your using
Would sound way more wholesome
good idea, we will try that :)
The dicord channel isnt working for me, it doesnt load up or anything just comes up with the discord saying "NO TEXT CHANNELS
You find yourself in a strange place. You don't have any access to any texf channels, or there are none in this server." And the side bar for the channel is blank but looks like its trying to load something. Anyone know where or how I can get a invite from this channel or how to access it
you can use the alternate link, its updated to latest.
Everything looks right in MO2 but no mods are there when I launch it through MO2. Is it because I'm using the gamepass version?
it can be, MO2 does not support gamepass version officially, for now.
@@DefaceGames well now I have to use vortex which I don't like. Even nmm is better than vortex
bear it for now, MO2 will soon come to the rescue
2:21 i do this and then im told : unrecognized game this folder does not seem ti to co tain a game mod mod organizer can manage
it means your exe file is not properly located. make sure you select the folder where the starfield exe file is there.
"Unrecognized game
The folder C:XBoxGames/Starfield does not seem to contain a game Mod Organizer can manage.
See details for the list of supported games".
There is a "Show Details" button which reveals a list of games not including Starfield.
I have MO2 version 2.4.4
I'm wondering if I need to update it so it recognizes Starfield?
it seems like you are not using the right version of MO2
@@DefaceGames thanks for the response. Thatt was my next move. Deleted it & downloaded the latest version. Same thing! Problem must be somewhere else.
I need to watch a few more vids i think to improve my general understanding Maybe i just got lucky when i modded skyrim.
@@DefaceGames there was a plugin which had to be downloaded from nexus.
Apparently without that plugin not even the latest version of MO2 recognizes starfield. Still too new perhaps.
do you still have to edit the ini file/use sfse ? 🙂
yes, its good idea, as it is needed by plenty of mods and plugins too
I installed a bunch of mods manually before getting MO2. Is there an easy way to move them all to the manager?
no
nope, you need to install via mod manager to organize them
Hey there, my Mod Manager 2 is already connected to the Nexus. But I can't seem to download the files from the Nexus using the mod manager downloads. It just says "your download has started" but the Mod Manager doesn't show any kind of download activity. A little help please
try right click in your MO2 downloads panel, see if those are not hidden, or check your MO2 downloads directory, see if the files are really downloaded or not.
@@aspnettest7134 I resolved it, thanks. It was my firewall settings. I gave MO2 an exception and it worked out fine.
good job
If you get access denied (5) like I did when finishing the install you need to run the mod manager as an administrator
yes, that shud work
Now the issue is trying to get anything to run based on a custom ini file. Honestly I should have just not seen the mods and played the game xD
Worked it out, since I'm using Mod Manager 2 I have to use the edit INI file option inside the mod manager instead of making a custom one myself. So just added the text files to the data folder in starfields steam folder and adding the custom ini text to the place were you showed the ini file in mod manager worked. Leeetsss gooo
@@TheAstraios awesome, you are a sharp one.
thank god I only spend 2h setting up mods I want only to realise that game pass version is currently not supported..
it happens. sorry for your lost time. try after few days
@@DefaceGames well, most mods seem to work when manually installed
yes, they will work, its just when the list grows big, its lot easier to manage with a mod manager.
Its not picking up my previous game save when launching, Im running steam version, if I open via steam my game save is there, just not when I open via mod organizer 2
fix was to install as portable instance, all works fine now
great job. enjoy your game.
the discord link is not working for me... it says "NO TEXT CHANNELS"
you can try the mirror link, its given below the discord channel link.
my mods are on data instead of downloads does that affect anything?
it will be probably fine as long as you dont face any errors and mods work.
I followed the guide but the mods doesn't work. I'm using Gamepass. I'm not encountering any error, I simply followed the guide. It didn't ask for the Administrator permission and it didn't ask i wanted to use steam or continue without using steam. These are the only parts that didnt show up.
the gamepass version is not officialy supported as of now, we are trying on it to make it work somehow.
@@DefaceGames Looking forward to it!
Could you do a fresh install gamepass version of this video? i know im asking for a lot but it would be helpful for like half the people on PC and for some reason no body cares about anything other than the steam version. Thanks!
the version we are using is also not the steam version. let us knw what problem u r facing exactly?
I followed all of the steps and it didn't work I also didn't get the admin issue thing so I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. Any help would be great thanks.@@DefaceGames
@@WoodyJohnsonLive if you are using xbox gamepass app on pc to manage starfield, you can go to menu (3 dots) > manage > files tab > click browse button. it will open the game directory there go into starfield/content/ folder, this content folder is the one that you need to use in MO2. let us know if this helps.
th-cam.com/video/NIE4WI0aYVY/w-d-xo.html check this video, it might help
@@DefaceGames I have Starfield installed on another drive (not c) and I don't have that browse option on XGP. Any suggestions?
well you can try to find the Starfield.exe using windows search. then note its path and use that.
is there a way to use this for gamepass or is it not supported
no, gamepass is not supported yet
@@DefaceGames ok thank you
Thank you for the video but no mods work for me and I did follow step by step.
are u using gamepass version?
Hey 👋🏻, still not supported for game pass?
yes, it seems like they won't feature it anytime soon
I did everything 1 to 1, this is like 5th video how to install mods but nothing works, idk what i do wrong...
are you using gamepass version?
@@DefaceGames yes.. and i know that this is the fault. so i bought the steam version 5 min ago :D
cool, enjoy your adventure
Does this disable achievements?
yes it does, but there is a mod called achievement enabler, which u can use to counter that
I'm following your video & I can't get my 1st mod to work & it's required at that.Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) I go to install the mod & BAM! I get this warning. The content does not look valid. Then I get a popup block that says This mod was probably NOT set up correctly you should first correct the directory layout using the content - tree. I have no idea what that means I I only get the option to Ignore OR Cancel. As of now these are the mods I'd like to try but are not installed. Single Survey Scan, Easy Digipick, Address Library for SFSE Plugin, Console Command Runner. Can't install any til I get my 1st problem solved.
we personally recommend that do not use SFSE mods unless you are familiar with everything. try some other simple mod first, like STAR UI Inventory, see if that works
@@DefaceGames It's all good. I learned thru another vid that SFSE has to be installed manually & that MOD2 won't do it. I'll tell ya that scan mod I picked up saves me hella time. I'm really only interested in ship mods, outpost mods, weapon mods & maybe a few character mods. Redesigning the game with all these UI mods is a bit much. People have to understand 1 thing bout Bethesda games they do that stuff on purpose or leave it as is because of time constraints they already know they have to give the modding community something to do lol,lol.... Fallout 4 was the same way. And I loved Fallout 4 to the max as well.
good job, research is the best skill to learn
the discord link just will not work.
you can download from mirror link, its same.
put the video in x2
What if you already have MO2 installed for Skyrim or fallout
well, we recommend make a new install of MO2, as the old MO2 will not feature support for starfield. you need the latest beta version.
That's why you're doing a portable installation. Then you can have as many installs of MO2 as you have games you want to mod. I've had as many as 6 or 7 different MO2 installs at one time on my PC for different versions of Skyrim, Oblivion and even the Witcher 3 all working at the same time. Its an AWESOME mod manager. Definitely would use it over Vortex.
@@theoptimisticskeptic exactly, Mod organizer is way better than anything else.
@@theoptimisticskeptic word thats what i was tracking, just wanted to make sure. Thanks pal!
For me it only start the game, with no mods. Only differences i see are that i am on beta5 and you on 4 in the video. And the moment i click launch there is no steam thingy pop up. (I am gamepass)
same here
for gamepass version, you need to pick the different folder for MO2 starfield game. its Starfield/content/
@@DefaceGames I just saw it on the discord, only the steam version of starfield is currently supported, I am certain I chose the right folder, it still did not work. Had no problems manually installing the mod through the tutorial on the website though.

cant get it to work for me. Steam version. Added the ini information. just nothing.
make sure the path is correct. you need to browse to the folder where the actual starfield.exe resides in.
my starfield instance has "location" and "basefolder" mapping to the app data folder/local/ModOrganizer/Starfield. Should these be mapping to the game folder with the exe?
@@DefaceGames

Tried this and can't get it to work, it says everything is installed nut none of the supposedly files are appearing anywhere, i've wasted two days trying to get these bs mods working when i could have just been playing the game.
