Jon says he'll go back down to the midden right after speaking with the archmage.
Completely forgets about it and goes to explore some ruins.
I like the idea that her eye isn't magical at all. What actually happened is that she wasn't paying attention while wandering around in the forest and got her eye poked by a tree branch. She just uses the magic eye line with some war paint so people don't think she's an idiot.

THE BEST WAY TO BEAT AZURA'S STAR HERE!!!! Now that I have your attention, you seem to have forgotten about your Dragonskin ability. If you were to temporarily accept the blessing of the Atronach Stone, then you would theoretically be able to absorb all of their magic. Then you could just go and defeat Malyn Varen before your Dragonskin wears off.

my companion was terrible today. first he tried to sneak up on some falmer. then after being caught he cowers behind me. finally he attacks me from behind, heals the enemy TWICE, and freezes me solid.
Yepp, the level of incompetence of this strange companion is only outclassed by its arrogance when it claims any kills for itsself that obviously belonged to someone else.

Funny little thing about j'zargo is that he levels infinitly with your character so if you're somehow lvl 300 j'zargo will be too.

The unofficial patch fixes that, he now stops at level 30 like the other students.

Banishing effects (i.e. that perk) only work on summoned creatures. as in: the ones summoned temporarily by spells, not permanent ones like the dremora in the star. If you have trouble telling the difference remember: summoned creatures don't leave a corpse.
I love how "Pratchetty" the two librarian feels, you're Rincewind and Benor's the murder machine.
Jon oblivion binding is in fact as OP as it sounds, it makes fighting mages that summon or raise so much easier

donashcroft93 But, as he asked, it unfortunately doesn't one shot the dremora in the star as they aren't summoned entities.
When you realise Jon is a Town Watch with gold weapons but has -4 morale: Can hit fairly well, but will run at the first sign of trouble.
Riki really, really sad to say this Jon, but Benor's time is coming to an end, at level 30 Benor is going to peek and fall behind in levels, so he will be a lot less bulky after about lvl 35 than someone who levels to 50 or even infinitely.
Either way, he'll always be with us in our hearts and in spirit.
There is a mod that fixes that. One of the best mods actually, it improves all your followers, and you can technically have up to 25 of them following you around with it. It's called Amazing Follower Tweaks (or AFT for short).

that plot involving a rivalry between independent academia and state power is the first story i am able to enjoy, or even vaguely understand. gauntlets +1 crossed it goes somewhere.

Jon, Oblivion binding won' work on dremora, but here is a strategy for you: get at least 3 potions of invisibility, activate the atronach stone and Talos blessing - reduced time between shouts, also, very important, enchant a dagger with paralysis ( 1sec will do ). Go in the star, use become ethereal shout or potions and run down to Vaenlin, don't bother taking out dremoras, when shout will run out use dragon skin ability because you will be constantly under fire, use paralysis dagger in one hand and your mace in other. After killing him if dremoras won't vanish - use become ethereal shout again and wait until you'll be pulled out. Please, make Jon see this.
Frost breath and atronach worked for me.

"Banish Daedra" effect only gets rid of summoned daedra, such as atronachs or daedra summoned through the Sanguine Rose.

Jon, holy shit, your ability to somehow look in exactly the directions you would have to in order for what you’re supposed to be noticing to not be onscreen is terrifying.
give benor your rose staff (the one that can summon a dramorea lord) then you can summon your atronac and he can summon one as well and then you have a teem of 4 and make your teem even more bad ass

Jon, if you're gonna start backstabbing on a regular basis you should look into using daggers. A good ebony/dragon/deadric dagger can do a lot of base damage, plus enchantments and the right perks will make it more deadly.

For a mage/enchanter, always always always search dwarven automata bodies; they're an excellent source of soul gems, some pre-filled.

Just to warn you the flame cloak spell hurts followers too, and it lasts awhile so if Benor approaches you while you're using it it'll kill him or get him angry enough to kill you.

It only just dawned on me that Jon constantly says “I need more health I’m dying too quick” and then you realize the only armor he is wearing is on his feet and hands and his armor rating is only 29....

In other words, you might as well do master locked doors. It's not like you need to conserve resources.

Illusion is the EASIEST skill to level, you can just cast Courage on random town npc's and it WORKS

Have you seen how good he is at aiming spells? At least with Healing Hands he's able to correct himself and spray most of the magic on Benor.

Jon, so when are you going to do "The House of Horrors" quest? The weapon it gives (Mace of Molag Bal) seems almost perfect for your preferences with this character.

I don't know why you refuse to ever open up master locks. Generally there's something interesting in them, and at most you'll lose like 5-10 lockpicks.
You forgot to put the rings on the gauntlet
Jon if you want to stop dying aso quickly but want to keep the mage clothes then try using a spell like oak or ebony flesh.
I remember clearing this dungeon then looting all the smetable dwarven things and putting them on a zombie and running back to the entrance to farm smithing. fun times.

Jon if you want a bigger team you can also get an animal companion while having Benor and your Atronach. You can either go for a dog or even better an Armored Troll (but thats in the Dawnguard DLC)
You can have 5 followers
1. Have a companion
2. Have a pet
3. Have a conjured or raised minion
4. Get a second conjured or raised minion with the end of tree perk
5. Give your companion a staff to conjured or raise a minion
I think casting Muffle to grind levels is fine under certain circumstances. I did it once when I was trying to get all the achievements and needed to get up to level 80 or so. Killing the damn Legendary Dragon and Ebony Warrior were the last things I had to do, and they don't even spawn until level 80.
No, Oblivion Binding won't get rid of the Dremora in Azura's Star. It will only work on things that you or NPCs summon/reanimate. good way of working out if Banish will work is simply looking at the targets name - if it's something generic like "Flame Atronach" then it won't work, if it's got a name before it like "Jon's Flame Atronach" then it will work. It's really not worth the perk point at all.
The Enchanting skills (especially "Increases Skill Enchantments by 25%) certainly are, though. Very soon, you'll be able to create enchantments that boost One-Handed damage output by over 40% per item (and you can wear several of the enchantments at once - they stack). It beats the +20% you'd get from the One-Handed tree easily.

I really hope Jon keeps the librarians both alive, the whole scenario reminds me of Hot Fuzz and how there's twins who work at the desk in the police station, but you only find out they're twins at the end.

Hey Jon check out "Silent casting" in the Illusion tree. It actually works brilliantly, nobody will hear you casting spells (even though the sound FX does still play) unfortunatly you still dont get sneak attack bonus :/

Jazargos a good companion if yous playing an attack character, he can take your role and be sudo support with lighting destruction

How to find Jon: follow the naked corpses
Jon, I have been watching these Skyrim videos every week, and I'm enthralled. You're a great player, and I love the detail you provide in your content.
Also, a helpful tip for moving those pesky Dragon Corpses - You can use the Raise Zombie spell to create a physics glitch to throw the Dragon corpse a Much greater distance than your shouts. I hope that helps! :D

something i found on my latest play of SSE is the turn undead spells cause undead that are too strong to turn to be staggered for a moment. repel lesser undead is like fus that only effects undead.
Just in case you didn't know, buff spells work on friend AND foe, so blasting rally at Benor also buffs the enemies as well. It just bothers me seeing you do it repeatedly.

Jon! A tip with looting a good rule to go by is for every 1 weight it should have 10 value for it to be worth enough to sell
You can also get one of the Falmer helmets and wear it over a circlet! Double head piece enchantments!

You can't bring a dragon back because you took their soul. People wanted you to shoot a reanimation spell at a dragon carcass to throw it around
that was the spiders exploding, and they sometimes have soul gems.
Jon, don't forget, when you catch a dragon, wait and watch what the wizard does from the balcony. Lol.
it's so much easier to get the dragon's corpse out of the way with a fire bolt, they go flying.
the only companion i know of with a boost to stealth is aela the huntress, she's noticeably better at stealth than any other companion. although, that's not saying much.
every companion is very good at 2-3 things. benor is two handed, heavy armour, and block, in that order. he's an okay archer.
Jon, look at 14:25. There is a note stuck with a knife on the Road Sign. May be nothing at all as I don't remember what it is but I just happened to notice it while watching XP
muffle is a really good way to grind your illusion skill, best cast it before entering detection range of enemy, I think the skill is checked against when the spell is the difference between detected and not.

Jon, you should find the Steed Stone (+100 carry weight & no armor weight) and if you increase pickpocket, you can get a perk for +100 carry weight.

Something about illusion spells. First, fury is fun. Second, you can use pacify spell to gain a second chance to sneak attack.

Jon, that aetherium shard is for the aetherium forge quest, which I believe you already read the book and picked up the journal entry to start. If you don't have anything pressing after finishing the Mages' Guild questline, you may want to do that next because it is a lot of fun and the reward is really nice. You basically just short cut one of the parts of the second segment of the questline by picking it up here before being told to get it.

If you're going to be using The Pale Blade, download the 'unique uniques' mod, it changes the look of unique weapons, as in their enchant or name .etc. and actually makes the weapon unique. It doesn't just do the pale blade, it does quite a few others like 10-15 I'm not sure.

1. Summoned/Raised =/= Daedra/Undead. They actually have to be somebody's thrall to banish or turn them with that perk.
2. That wasn't friendly fire, that was the dwemer spider worker exploding into lightening. They do that.
3. You can sneak attack someone who's already fighting if you are still undetected. The eye opens when you get detected.
