Beach Fishing - Southampton - Itchen Bridge

- Trying new marks very close to where I live and revisiting places I fished as a kid. The area under and near Itchen Bridge can show some nice bass and there is always a chance of other species.
For this session I bring my Century Fireblades teamed up with my Penn 525 mag 3’s.

That day, neap tide, 2 miles up the coast from you and it was my best day this year fishing.

@@seaangling calshot, 2 pout, 4 whiting, 4 bass. Saying that the largest bass was only 29cm
Nice mix of species though, was that day or night?
I’ll be fishing there at some point.
@@seaangling Sunday, fishing an hour and a half before low, whiting on fist cast within 5mins then nothing until 1pm first bass. Double shot of a whiting and pout an hour later and then it went mad. Seconds after throwing out the bait it was bite after bite. Had to leave at 5 as the mrs had made a roast but really had to tug myself away. Towards the end the bite were bending the rod big time but kept missing them.
10 fish of three species im more than happy this time of year.
Think I fished there many moons ago. Enjoyed that mate, gave me the urge to get my backside in gear. Thanks. 😎👍🏻
Hopefully these restrictions ease soon and we can get back to somewhere near where we were before and some decent fishing sessions.

Grat video mate kant catch the all I have bin catch in lots of flat fish in Hull but it is hard going
Even the flat species have been few and far between down here. It is very quiet.

used to fish in front of the carpark off to your left around 25 years ago ......when there used to be flouder a plenty ! wasn't uncommon to get 2 or 3 fish over 2lb in a session. anyways great vid as always mark and nice to see the Itchen bridge miss walking over that on my way to the football.
It looks very snaggy there now with lots of obstructions in the water.
Cracking video been out six time's in the last month and all I've had is pout dogfish and one eel that was to small to even call a strap love the content

Great video as always . I don’t know about you but I will be glad when March has gone and we are into April when hopefully the fish will start to bite . It tough at the moment.
It is but it is expected. Not long to wait hopefully for an easing of restrictions and some more active fishing. 💪🏻

Not a big fan of the neoprene reel covers. Ok for transportation of reels, but not storage. I discovered to my cost that if theres any trace of salt or moisture on the reels, corrosion soon sets in if they're left on for any time.

Most enjoyable as usual - I’m just like you with the poor hook maintainence. What an interesting venue too.
It normally wouldn’t have gotten past my OCD cleaning of my kit but this one escaped me.
We all have them don't we but credit for filming the blank some won't do it but should because its fishing and happens to the best of us i probably won't be out til mid April due to this part of the year being so bad winter species gone and summer stuff not arrived yet
From the shore it is hard work but the next film will turn that on its head. 👍🏻

I was being cautious as they had just been rebuilt. They were set 4 clicks back from full.

Nice video Mark, you're definitely not the only one blanking at the moment! Did the new bearings on your mag 3's make much difference?
They were a lot smoother but to be fare it was one bearing on one reel that was playing up. I changed all 6 on both reels with Abec 7’s.

Of course we go out fishing to catch fish but not always successful however, the enjoyment of fishing is still nice. Enjoyed watching this video as everything was well explained. Thumbs up from me.

My mate said he saw a recent article of someone catching a double figure bass from that spot on a lure. Don't know if the ebb or flood fishes best ? I'll want to fish either at dawn though

There was a decent chance of that and it isn’t normally like that. Because of COVID the sailing club hasn’t used it for so long it is now covered. It is usually clean.
i was here just a few days ago, i live about 5 mins away, had a my first bass from here,i recorded it and if you zoom in on the video u may see it haha, it wasnt big but a fish is a fish and its a PB when caught lol

Park in the car park and walk the 100 yards to the mark. Which side of the water were you, Woolston or town?

@@constantinpopa2210 there are some goods spots on the opposite side (Woolston). Further along from under the bridge is a pub and the hovercraft slipway. That is excellent lure fishing at low tide cast towards the moorings. 😉🎣👍🏻

Not from the shoreline unless you intend catching migratory fish. General shore angling for bass, flounder etc is all free.

Hi Mark have you tried the Brighton cast ? Its good for shingle beaches even with clipped rigs .

Unlucky mark we can’t always catch but that’s the nature of things it’s dire here in Kent as well .

not the best time of year for sea fishing, winter fish have gone and the summer fish have yet to make there mind up
