1) Is a Zig Zag transformer typically added to an existing delta system in order to provide a neutral connection? i.e. if the customer needs a neutral, why not design a Y system with a neutral instead of designing a delta system, then later adding a zig zag? 2) If the zig zag transformer is added later, is it really acting as a transformer? i.e. how is the magnetic field from the primary (such as delta in this example) interacting with the zig zag's coils since the zig zag transformer may be installed several meters away from the delta transformer? 3) In your example, it appears that the zig zag transformer is acting like a "stand alone" device, rather than a conventional transformer since there is no magnetic field interaction between the primary (delta) and secondary (zig zag). Is my understanding correct? Can you please make a video to clarify how the magnetic field is interacting between primary and secondary in your example?

The Three limbed transformer drawn is wrong as you can't have two different phases in the same limb. Phases are induced by the same flux, so will have either +R and -R in a limb, You can't have a R and a Y in one limb.

Yes the transmission/distribution line which is connected in delta is the primary winding. In case of delta delta Transformer we have to add zig zag connected secondary.
