2nd Gen Virago Oil Pressure Gage Added to Motor Side Cover...It really wasn't very hard to do

  • Because I was converting my Oil Filter to a Remote Mount one (since I don't like having to take the foot pegs and stuff off to change the oil filter, LOL), I didn't have a place on the Oil Filter Cover for the gage. After looking at a spare motor side cover I had, I decided to mount one on the cover at the top. Now I can check the oil pressure while on the bike (at Stop lights or when stop of course).

Hello there Steve, Another great video from you. You are smart and mechanically inclined. Thank you very much for sharing your skills on TH-cam.

Thanks man ! Oh, I bought that Depstech bore scope we were talking about to see how good it was. It actually does have a very good picture resolution and has both front and side cameras that have lighting so it should work great 👍. I was worried that the cable would be too flexible like a wire and hard to hold steady, but it is stiff but flexible so that was good. It connected right up to my iPhone (it has its own WiFi so it connects that way) and also has a picture taking and video taking feature so what is being scoped can also be recorded 😀. Seems like a good too, for the price 👍.

@@StevesDIYs Hello there Steve, Thanks for mentioning the borescope because I was wondering about how it worked out for you of the quality and functionality. Did you have to download an app. on your phone to make it work ?

@@GarysnewYT 👍. Yes, it has an app out on the App Store that allows it to connect up to the phone. Works out good since the phone displays are high resolution and the cameras are 1080p 👍

Thanks man ! It did work out nice to mount the gage right in the side cover…easy to see and out of the way 👍. I was surprised at how easy it was to do when I was first thinking about, lol. All the best ! Steve

Pěkná práce :) proč jsi volil externí filtr na olej ? Díky za iodpoved.

Thanks 👍. I put the external one on so I wouldn’t have to remove the foot pegs and support just to change the filter. Since I have 1st Gen Viragos, I got used to the easy access to changing the filter so the second Gen setup is a little annoying to me, ha,ha ! All the best ! Steve

Nice job, need to do this to mine too as oil pressure light is intermittent. You wouldnt mind sharing where to get the gauge would ya? Pretty much every gauge is psi these days

Thanks man 👍. The gage I used is a SMC brand and is the G33-10-01. The -10 in the part number is for 0-1 MPa, but a -6 or -8 could also be used as the pressure tops out at .4 MPa on these (the pressure bypass in the motor opens at that pressure when the oil is cold). Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

What was your reason for the external oil filter? It looks badass!

    • @StevesDIYs
      @StevesDIYs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks ! I mainly put it on to avoid having to take the foot peg mount bars and stuff off just to pull the OE oil filter cover for an oil change since my 1st Gens spoiled me with the ease of doing the oil change, lol. I also liked how the remote mount filter looked as it added a little something extra on the bike that was unique. Gives it kind of an old school look to the motor having a shiny chrome oil filter sitting there 😀.

Definitely gives it a unique look!

Loved it man! The onl thing I would adjust is to slam that gaude a little closer to the case. just for a more "factory look". Otherwise it's just perfect.
Are you selling the remote filter conversion kit already?

Thanks man 👍. It’s nice to be able to see the gage from the seat so I can check on it from time to time as well now.
Yep, I think for the final one, I’ll cut the brass coupling down and rethread it so I can get it as close to the cover as possible 👍. Then I can make a nicer looking transition so it will blend right in. Thanks again and all the best !

I did do a template for the bracket for the remote mount oil filter setup so I could make some if folks wanted one 👍. I’ll probably run it around on the bike for a few months to see how it does before setting up on making a few though...I always like to test things out a bit to be sure they are made well 👍

@@StevesDIYs Any update on how it's working? Also whats your thoughts on liquid teflon over tape for that?

Hello. Where did you bought it?

I believe this gage is from SMC and is one of their smallest gages with the stainless steel housing 👍
