I know this video has a bit of age on it, but it was really informative for someone looking for a first laser. I'll definitely be checking out more on your channel.
Just spent 4K on Omtech website. Bought the AF2028 60W, chiller and fan. When asked where I heard about Omtech I input your TH-cam page. I hope it helps you somehow 👍👊
I just ordered the X-Tool-D1 Laser Engraver with Rotary, 10W Higher Accuracy Laser Cutter, 60W with Support for LightBurn, and the air assist add-on for $850.00. I am a CNC Machinist but I can see the laser engraver is a better buy than a router. Thanks for sharing you knowledge from Experience. 😁
I run a 20+yo Universal V 50 Laser. can't believe how well this Mahine is made Never changed the Laser, Changed 4 sets of Bearings and Drive belts in set of struts on the access Lid. Oh yea, I used to work for a company that did precision laser cutting, drilling, skiving, micro-vias and occasionally engraving. We had machines in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range, even a few into a million dollar range. ESI was a brand, from China I believe, that we had that did UV lasers. Another was the Excellon Cobra which had both UV and CO2 in 1 machine so you could cut/skive/drill with one and do a finish pass with the other. Or a multilayer panel with different materials like copper and dielectric. Cool stuff. Have been thinking about getting a laser engraver for some product ideas I have
You rock; thank you for this very thorough overview. Just starting my research to purchase a laser; your channel has been super helpful as I navigate a world I know nothing about! Thanks!
Hi, This is Olivia from Jinan LaserMen CNC Equipment Co. Ltd, a laser machine manufacturer. Nice to meet you. Fiber laser cutting machine, hybrid laser cutting machine for metal and nonmetal, CO2 Laser cutting engraving machine, laser marking machine, laser welding machine are our main products. There are different models. Please let me know if you are interested in. Looking forward to your early reply Best regards
I have a feeling if anyone knows the answer to this question. Its you.... Are there any Laser EXPOS? walk around see all them in one setting. Hands on experience. Face to face 1 on 1 Q&A.
There a company called aeon, they sell laser, and in their warehouse they have the most of the laser of the market and you can compare with their laser, I own an aeon laser and is my best investment ever.
Yea, Expos are the way to go. Especially when looking at big buck stuff. If I spend 15,000 on a machine I want to see it in person, try it out and talk to a representative that is an expert on it. If I can't try it I won't buy it. Online purchasing is ok for small stuff. For big stuff its old school for me.
You're the go-to guy online who really seems to know his stuff about laser engravers/cutters-could you do a review on the LaserPecker LX1? My wife has a flower farm and sells from a cart in front of our house and at local events. She's always needing signage. The LX1 has a module into which you can insert a chalk marker-that could be awesome for us. I also think there will be times when I want to engrave text on wood for signage. Just want to make sure I'm not missing a cheaper alternative that could do the job just as well.
Hello my friend. I have watched many, many laser YT videos. Yours, this one is by far the most thorough I have seen. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I am going to subscribe and of course like this video and if you have many others I will be watching and liking them to. Thanks again and GOD bless!!
Thanks for the comprehensive review! I am just looking into the entry level machines for the first time and this was very informative. I look forward to watching you make and break more stuff in the near future. By the way, Go Timbers!! (I am a Portland local)
Does this mean that with this new laser head, I could engrave successfully on stainless steel? I'm looking for a somewhat budget friendly laser for engraving jewlery. And I am interested in the X-Tool, but up until reading your comment I thought I would have to go for a fiber laser. Do you have a link for this new laser head?? Thank you!
Very nice video, one thing to mention though... Maybe I missed it, but I think it's very important to mention that diode machines can't cut transparent materials like clear acrylic and co2 ones can.
Just got my XTool D1 Pro 10w and Lightburn is a headache to use. I’ll set the dimensions of the work and frame it and everything is good. But when I try to engrave the diode starts half an inch off of the material and the image comes out about an inch smaller than the dimensions on the screen. I have none of these problems with the software XTool included with the laser though.
Looking for advice here. I need a laser cutter that can cut 1” foam (packing material) that is less than 7”x7”. If it could also efficiently cut .118” acrylic, that would be a huge +++! The cheaper and easier to use the better.
I run a 10K Mazak laser at my job but I’ve been wanting to get a small personal one like this to do fun crafts on the side. This helped out a ton for sure!
I'm interested in working with lasers. One question I wished you had addressed is consumables. Do the diodes have a limited lifespan? How about the CO2 tubes as well? I know you mentioned upgrading the diodes so I'm assuming that's a DYI project and if your diode is 'dead' you can order a replacement. How about replacing the CO2 tube? Are there any other parts that may wear out? Thanks.
Not sure if you ever found your answer but a 60w co2 fiber laser tube is going to give you roughly 1500 hrs of use before it might need replacing, an 80w should give you roughly 6,000 hours of use
So, I’m a woman and I have a business where I do wood work but I am very much not electronic savvy. I have a scroll saw, table saw, miter saw, router, dremel, jig saw/ basically everything but a CNC machine. What work we do is resin art and wood work for home decor. What would be the best user friendly but cuts what we need? I’m wanting more of a wood cutter and not an engraver. Yes? That would be a plus, but I’m wanting to cut words/fonts out of wood and put it on other items to paint or resin. (ie- welcome sign). Clearly I don’t need 7k+ type machine so what would you suggest for someone that does my line of work at home?
I'm new to this. I'm a hobbyist woodworker and it seems clear that a diode machine will be what I want. But I still have so many questions. What does air assist do? What wattage would I want and what difference does power make (speed?). What software is most common and will I have to spend money on that? Can the software run on an ipad (don't have a laptop)? How long do diodes last and what do they cost to replace? Can I run these in a cold environment (think garage in Minnesota in the winter)?
I wonder if a BL Touch from the 3D printing world could be added to a CO² laser. Once calibrated and outer dimensions specified it could perfectly dial in the focal point.
Love these reviews, but would like to have your opinion on a laser that is portable and fast. I am looking for a laser to put in my craft show trailer. My main pourpose would be for engraving anodized aluminum minimalist wallets, flasks and tumblers. I currently have an XTool D1. I was going to use it, but it takes it around 10 minutes to do a wallet and I want this time frame brought down. So, I am thinking a fiber may be the best choice....but I also want to keep it sub-$2000 if possible. It will be powered using a gas powered generator and will be in an enclosed area (meaining out of spectator viewing range - but still well ventilated). Thoughts?
I have the FoxAlien Masuter Pro, I have the 40W laser with it but thankfully they're super powerful giving a 10W output.. Not many others do that on a 40W..
Great video! I've found the Atomstack X20 Pro to be my go-to diode laser for the past couple of months as I've mostly been cutting thin plywood and MDF and the included air assist gets really clean cuts. I'm looking forward to trying out the Gweike Cloud since you've had good things to say about it. It seems like their name is pronounced "g veek", I found an employee video where they were all pronouncing it this way.
@@makeorbreakshop looked at the AtomStack too. Do you have videos recommending products? I don’t care a ton about cutting, really want a good engraving machine. Hard to choose between multi-diode machines and CO2
we are ready to order the 20 w pro machine..is there a difference in the gray machine from the red machine? If i order an extension table, do i need to order 2 honeycomb sheets...Does the software come with the machine? what all would you order for this machine? Can someone please help with these questions....what is the difference between the metal risers and the wood riser blocks?
question please as for the printer machine we know that it need for the ink , what about the laser machine do they need for some thing like that monthly or as need?
Engraving DPI is hugely important. While I know 1200 DPI on a diode or fiber is doable, they are mainly marking machines (not cutting). When I compared machines, I asked specifically about DPI ... they all report higher numbers than to be expected AND/or skipped around an answer ... their website numbers cannot be trusted. The newer gen. machines have better motors than the 4+ yr old designs and can consistently do +800dpi, like the 2 co2 machines you mentioned. There are more economy options that can perform, and there are more DIY coolers that aren't messy nor expensive. I have a BOSS 70W and can cut/engrave basically anything I desire. but it's older and doesn't have the newer motors (so the effective DPI is about 1/2 of the newer machines with the smallest focal lens), but it can be upgraded. If it's a hobby, speed isn't as important ... precision is. i would never spend less than $3k on any laser, period. People ask when i give them stuff i make: " You did what?" i say:"yes, I'm a Jedi, I cut stuff with light". Diodes imo don't count. I've used over 36 types of materials .. and my co2 hasn't failed me yet.
so i downloaded the testfile and all the squares were burning at 100% is there some kind of adjustment i should have made first when i downloaded the file?
Thanks for the information. I have watched many of your videos over the past year as and happy to see that X-tool now makes an enclosure for their diode product. You should look into Xtool's new 1064nm IR laser. It CAN and does engrave on metals like silver, gold, titanium, stainless, etc... Crap for wood but great for jewlery.

Have you any review of the AP Laser. They are expensive compared to the machines you have had on your video. Low range starting at about $11 to 13K. What I like about them, is they are not a box in laser, so you can work on project such as gravestones or other big items.
I'm afraid there might be a fire

Due to wanting to produce some larger pieces, I'm looking at the Muse Titan (48x24 inches). Do you have any experience with Muse?
I’ve used the smaller Muse 3D. It works great! The software can take a little getting use too but I’ve heard great things about the Titan.
@@makeorbreakshop Thanks for the info! All info is good to someone like me who is a complete noob....
could you show the Snapmaker CNC on brass? It would be a good test to show its limits
Hallo, thank you for your video. What laser can you recommend me for starting A business with engraving ultrasound pictures to gold pendants please?
what about software which software does your pick comes with? Does Atomstack comes with light burn?
Lightburn is a separate purchase.
Hi do you recommend any laser machines
that can laser engrave tall items 7 to 8 inches tall with a wooden base etc
Can one of the diode lasers like the Xtool 20w mark on polymers (like polypropylene)?
Or that only the fiber (raycus style) and CO2?
Have you any review of the AP Laser. They are expensive compared to the machines you have had on your video. Low range starting at about $11 to 13K. What I like about them, is they are not a box in laser, so you can work on project such as gravestones or other big items.
Atomstack x20 Pro or xTool D1 Pro which one do you recommend guys?
