Yah Holy Eff! New tidbit for me! Kirk's only a few years older too....to think that Gary went from "greenhorn" to "Gawd Level" in a short span......he prolly would have been an awesome physicist or something otherwise! Haha
Also, blew me away that Dukes was a guitar tech too - that threw me - too bad Exodus dumped him via text "apparently" - he must have fucked up hard somehow.

Kirk was already amazing and had the best albums out before taking those few lessons lol he just went to Joe to learn more and different stuff. omg people are so stupid. Randy roads for exemple Ozzy said he would always be learning new shit and took lessons by the best town teacher in every town they went. See when your rich you can do that.
Aside from being a metal Legend he is such a cool and relaxed dude. Could sit and watch Holts interviews all day.

My daughter and I saw Slayer just last night. Gary tossed her a guitar pick and now her life is complete!
Cool Dad. ... i took my son to the slayer concert here in germany when he was 13. We both were big fans. ... unfortuantly he died by an accident together with my wife.

When Holt became a Slayer member I was really sad, I didn't know the guy and it felt like Slayer had Hanneman replaced. With the years I started appreciating Holt more and more...without him Slayer couldn't continue, and as a fan I feel like that's what metal's about.

TRUE STORY: When I was in the Air Force I went to a mall in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and they had a music store with nothing but bootleg cassette tapes. LOL I saw Exodus 'Bonded By Blood', and I shit you not, because of the super-strict Muslim laws over there regarding showing of the body, the 2 babies on the cover of the album had clothes literally drawn on them with a marker!!! It was hilarious! It was crazy - if there was still room left on the tape, they would just throw some other random band on there to fill it up...

I live in Saudi and I blast Exodus and other stuff loudly in the car and at home. I also wear my Tempo of the Damned t-shirt that I got when I saw Exodus in Virginia in 2007.
Now Saudi is much less strict, Exodus can come play here without any problem as long as there is no blasphemy in the lyrics.

My roommate was over there on his rotation & someone threw a pipe bomb over the wall of the hotel where all the foreign military people stayed right as they were all filing out to get on the buses that took us to Prince Sultan Airbase each morning/night(we worked 12 hour shifts 7 days a week)... he was pretty shook up afterwards! He said they went running back inside while there were chunks of concrete raining down... pretty bad stuff.
@@TonyHookedonVanlife that's sick. Fortunately now, MBS has destroyed all the roots of extremism, so it's pretty safe in here now and much more relaxed. The metal community is almost non existent but I'm pretty sure it's possible to play gigs in compounds where expats live.

I met Gary in 89 on the Mtv Headbangers ball tour. I met a really cool Navajo who got me stoned then we played stickball with Exodus,anthrax and helloween at the Utah State Fair park. One of the best days of my life!!!

The most Underrated Metal Guitarist of all time. Gary Holt blows my mind. He's such an amazing Riff God. This interview reveals how humble he is. Fuck this guy is awesome. I hope he keeps melting faces with the riff's he writes with Exodus. It's no wonder Slayer chose him to step in.

when you watch clips of Gary Holt talking you get the impression he is one really awesome man and a really funny guy as well . I love Jeff Hanneman and his passing was very sad as he was not even 50 years old. But Gary Holt was the perfect for for Slayer .

the part about Steve Zetro Souza is so true! I met the band in Denver back in Dec and everyone was laid back and chill. But Steve was so energetic and happy to taalk to his fans. He treated me like I was his kin or something.

I’ve always though Rob Dukes was a very strong addition to Exodus when he joined. Zetro I didn’t feel was fit and Paul may he rest in peace. His vocals were powerful and unique and a great fit for the band and excellent in Generation Kill, but I still think Exodus should bring Rob back.
I fell the same with lee altus. I mean, his leads are pretty poor, he can't fill in for Holt...
I did a bunch of blow with Paul baloff at the Middle East in Cambridge mass a couple years before he passed
