For many many years now, I've become acquainted with people that knew the "Big 4", and I'd show them Exodus. 100% of the time, they were hooked from the first note they heard. Even now, the company I work for just hired a bunch of guys in their early 20's, and they're getting hooked on Exodus, as well. Don't get me wrong, I still love Slayer, but I've always been a bigger fan of Exodus. I've really come to love the stuff from Tempo of the Damned onward the best.

Been listening to Exodus for going on 30 years now and I've always thought his playing and their sound were way way underrated. He deserves every bit of this.

Are you from the same area as he is? If so, we probably know a lot of the same people. I grew up in Richmond/San Pablo, California. One day at Hilltop mall, I was at that pizza place that used to serve beer. This must have been in 1990, or 1991. I was there drinking, and had a guitar with me that I had bought from Geno earlier that day - Geno, the bassists for Blind Illusion. So I started talking to this dude that was asking about the guitar, and I mentioned that there was another one I wanted to buy, one that belonged to Gary Holt. He said, "I am Gary Holt." His uncle was there with him, and we spent a couple hours there drinking, and talking. I wonder if Gary would remember that...

Back in 2001 when God Hates us All tour. A buddy and I drove from Tampa to Jacksonville to see Slayer at Club 2000. Jeff, Tom, Dave and Kerry it kicked ass. The next day we where hanging out at Pat O’Briens house while Cannibal Corpse practiced. All of a sudden the Slayer bus pulls up and we do some shoots, shoot pool, Slayer plays a few songs in the garage. They are so humble. The reason they where in town is to raise money for Chuck Schuldiner past and the money went to the family. Many bands in Metal came to support a member in the Music Community who did so much

I was So Saddened When Slayer Lost Jeff The Guys Guitar Style Was So Unique So Jeff no One Like him in the world and the fact he was such a nice guy people all said makes it even more tragic.. but i must say im glad slayer moved on and created repentless with Garry Holt i could not think of anyone on earth that would be as good as he is in the band playing old and new slayer i think Jeff would not only be proud of him but also of the band not giving up and producing another classic album now my favorite album besides south of heaven keep up the great work guys

Tom is a really cool guy...I love how he embraces his grey hair by growing it into a full beard...a lot of aging Metal stars dye it, even LEMMY! Slayer did an in store record signing at Tower Records, Austin TX for the release of "God Hates Us All"...I along with hundreds of fans stood in the rain for hours to meet the band and get out stuff signed...I will never forget how after Tom signed my vinyl records/CD's looked up at me and gave me a firm handshake..much more than Kerry or Jeff did, and Lombardo didn't even show....that simple display of respect meant a lot to me then and now...SLAYER FAN FOR LIFE!!!!..and I've been with them since 1985!

+Mark C. I don't know him, but I'm a fan of Slayer since they had a good tone (Reign in Blood). I was more a fan of Venom or Discharge, when Slayer wrote their first albums. Because before Reign in Blood, the riffs were excellent but the sound was so weak. (I'd like that they re-record their first album and maxi-single with top violent sound).
In my point of view, Tom Araya is the unique member that Slayer could not replace. When I listen to him shouting in his mic, damned, I feel a rage that no other singers in the trash metal can bring to me.

i’m gonna go ahead and say this and it’s gonna piss people off, but in my opinion, gary holt is the best guitarist slayer has ever had. that’s not to say he would’ve wrote better riffs or anything but specifically from a lead standpoint and skill standpoint, i think he’s the best. maybe even the best in all of thrash. mans a legend, just saw him in SLO for the bay strikes back tour, he was killer.
