  • This is NOT A "how to" video ....it's simply me ,doing it
    And to all the keyboard warriors in their mom's basement , YES i do put 20wt gold in Rockshox fork cause I think its much superior to Rockshox' 0w-30 pit stop oil.

    I love this style of video, I don't need to take a 20 minute break to watch it. GOOD JOB, thank you

    Are the white small o-ring on the skf seal kit the o-ring for the bottom nuts?

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes , and it's not an O-ring its A crush washer which you should replace everytime you loosen the footnuts.
      they are what keeps the lowers fluid in the lowers and to have them leak is very dangerous for your fork

    Good video that is easy to follow just wondering how much oil did you put into each lower, it looks more than 10ml

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't follow Rockshox' guides , they recommend so little oil the bushes are just going to wear out prematurely.
      i can also rebuild my damper quick if i need to so any oil migration isn't a problem for me.

      @@Tinkers-1980 I typically saturate foam rings fully which takes atleast 8ml each. Then i put 13-15 in each leg. Never had an issue

    If you’re using the flangeless seal, how do you prevent driving the seal too far? Will the seal driver prevent this, or still have to be careful?

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to eye it with flangeless seals, the first time I used one I sunk a the seal all the way..... Not a good time getting it out either.
      The unior tool I used is designed for flanged or flangeless seals but won't keep you from hammering a flangeless seal in all the way. I doubt a seal driver like that is available but I could be wrong.
      Just do it carefully and slowly and you'll be fine.

      JustFrana the foam rings in my new pack of seals are slightly elongated/deformed. Is there a way to “round” it back? just worries it won’t fit the inside of the upper nicely and get caught when I try to slide the uppers back on the stanchions.

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@riffmeisterkl not that I know of, its often an issue aftermarket foam rings for rockshox forks. Trying to slide the stanchion just past the foam ring and then try to work the foam ring around until the stanchion slips through. You'll know if it got squeezed cause there will be alot of friction

    • @riffmeisterkl
      @riffmeisterkl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JustFrana what i did is rolled up a piece of paper to a tube to the right diameter, then just put the foam rings over the paper tube overnight to reform the rings :)

      @@JustFrana I have a large bottle of fox green 10wt oil, with loads left (its about 5 years old but has been kept in dry storage). I no longer have a Fox fork but now have a 2017 Pike rs (purchased last year). What d'you think about using this oil in the lowers? Should I just buy some fresh oil...and is 10wt hugely different to the recommended 0w-30? Thanks!

    how often should I need to put a new dust seal?

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Almost every manufacturer recommends 50hrs and i tend to agree for best performance.
      However conditions also have an influence, in very dry and dusty conditions i push it to around 80hrs and very wet or muddy i change around 30hrs.
      Its basic but has a massive influence on performance so i change as close to recommend as possible

      @@makoto6457 No , is I've been through this exercise and found 2 points.
      1 No aftermarket seal is as good as OEM as in keeping crap out and not adding tons of friction.
      2 SKF(green) seems to be the only seal that does what they claim in that there's definitely less friction but they do tend to wear slightly quicker i.e. my foam rings get dirty much quicker with skf seals vs oem

      @@JustFrana Ohhh I see... Thanks a lot for your answer, very clear. Sfk is difficult to find here in Brazil. Actually there is no online store selling them. I would have to buy them from tradeinn. OEM manitou is expensive as well. Guess the value on both will be the same. Mine dust seal is 150 hours, no damage at all, foam do not get dirt as hell, but I guess it is almost time to switch to a new one. I dont wanna damage my stanchions. Probably I will go with SFK, as on my research it is a "upgrade" doing that.

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you're referring to the splash oil, I've tested it against many oils including rockshox' own brands and it's much much better at clinging to bushes and stanchions which yields much more sensitive riding due to everything staying slippery. A very worthy alternative is motorex supergliss but the rockshox oils are thrash in my opinion

      @@JustFrana I meant 20 wt. isnt that thicker that standard?

    • @JustFrana
      @JustFrana  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ewartbuilt660 Yes it is , however adding thicker oil to the lowers won't necessarily increase the friction , the reason I ad the Fox 20wt is because it's very tacky and will cling to the stanchions and bushes better than the 0wt_30 from rockshox. the thinner oil I feel will drip down easier and cling as good resulting in increased friction between the stanchions and bushes which is the last thing you want
