    Some ninja math, considering arriving with 10% in winter and should charge to get 250km more range at 90km/h. Tesla M3 23 minutes, Megane 28 minutes and Ariya 34 minutes. Forget the ID.3 but enough math for one day !

    Considering Wh/km the real winner is Tesla M3 since you get more km to drive faster, maybe a 10% to 250km added to drive would be a more real life test? Or maybe this guy in shorts that looks familiar who have escaped the Norwegian winter is the real winner ?

    All depends on battery temps, for this video the batteries will be at 30 odd degrees or more not likely to happen for winter or even here in Ireland in the middle of Summer where night temps can get to 8 deg C in the middle of July/August and day temps struggle to get over 13 deg C on average. Having said that Winter isn't too cold here either but still cold enough to ensure "fast" charging is not fast at all.

    The Megane vs Model 3 test doesn't make ANY sense to me. They both have a 400V pack right? So megane hits 400V (4.167 cell voltage) at 80% SoC and the Model 3 is hitting 96% at 369V (3.84V)?? Either something is seriously wrong with these readings or the Megane is overcharging / CV charging to a high cell voltage and is going to have a sheeeeit battery cycle life and the Model 3 is undercharging while indicating 100%. Model 3's 396V is too high for LFP, so it has to be an NCA chemistry or a 116S LFP chemistry.

  • @activedriving
    @activedriving ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there any advantages from receiving 450 V from the charger, compared to 380 V. Looks like iD.3 get higher voltages than the rest. V x A = kw so ID.3 can have same KW with a lower A

    • @ReximPL
      @ReximPL ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Voltage depends on how your battery is constructed. You can have 100kWh capacity with both 400V and 800V. The difference will be how many Ah (Amp x hours the but in the end you will have the same amount of energy. Bjorn already explained pros and cons of 400V and 800V architecture so you can watch it. In short it doesn't make much difference

    • @Infinion
      @Infinion ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If the charger cabling is current limited to 125A, a higher pack voltage could get 9kW more energy than 380V. So if your area had a lot of 50kW chargers and you expect to do a lot of charging with them, there could be a time savings. But as this test shows, when the charger isn't the charging bottleneck, 450V is not charging faster than 400V designs. At that point there are other factors at play.

    • @ndc5544p
      @ndc5544p ปีที่แล้ว +1

      800V vs 400V is a discussion which doesn't make any sense, only for a select few cars which allow over 200kW charging speed. CCS is limited to 500A, that means on 400V you can get 200kW while on 800V you can get 400kW. The cell voltage is still 3,7V (nominal) so the limiting factor is the cabling.
      400V vs 450V would render higher charging speed at the same amps, 12,5% to be exact. But if the manufacturer has adjusted the charging curve down by 12,5% then you won't reap any benefits. You can have all the voltages you want, most of the current batteries and charging curves do not saturate the 500A of a CCS pack. So even if the cars had 300V packs they could still charge at these speeds, with the exception of the Tesla.

    • @activedriving
      @activedriving ปีที่แล้ว

      I both cars have a 400V battery design, one car charge with 400V and the other with 380V, then you need higher A on the car charging with 380V to achieve same KW.
      Lower A during charging will be beneficial for the in car wiring and electronic, less cooling and Ohm resistance.
      I assume the car BMS manage the charging by adjusting the A, and there will be a maximum A defined for the in car wiring
