  • Skater & trainer Lana Luvhurts demonstrates two methods for skating downhill on quad rollerskates: Carving & the Turnaround Toe-stop.
I use carving the vast majority of the time because it's dynamic and flexible, you can get down hills slow & flowy or fast & aggressive, and it works on just about any slope that's skateable as long as you have some room to carve and traffic isn't an issue. The turnaround toe-stop is great for situations where carving won't work or isn't ideal, it works in narrow spaces, very steep grades, and gives you a lot of control, but the streets eat through toe-stops quickly so this method is more of an as-needed option. A chunky, medium-hard toe-stop works great.
Plows: A plow can work on hills if the surface-to-wheel situation allows for enough surface slide, and if the plow is effective enough for the steepness of the grade. The softness of outdoor wheels + grippy asphalt can make plows difficult or less effective. You want to test it out before you're bombing down at high speed. xx
