Murray is such an extraordinary man, an engineering icon in my view. Creating a supercar that is lighter than a current MX-5 and has a freaking NA V12 with 663 HP , 467 Nm that revs to 12.000 RPM ? AND it's a manual? We should be building a shrine to him.
I’m not going to ever have an opportunity to speak to Gordon, but if I did I’d like to ask him his opinion on cars vs bikes and in his opinion to what extent are the latter less compromised than the former? I’d be very interested to see a GMD sportsbike...
"Unfortunately you have committees and levels of management. And you'll never get an iconic motorcar out of committees and levels of management", Gordon Murray. What a brilliant comment!
@@tombittikoffer412 Too many. Start with engine reliability and the F50 underpowered engine is because of this. Ferrari made a 700 hp engine for race with F40 and a 900 hp engine with F50. Hopefully the T50 at least inspires people, even if it's just a small percentage, to think about cars differently. The weight and unnecessary size of modern cars is very sad. We don't see enough Lotuses, Alpines etc.
Yeah, for sure it will inspire a bunch of people... but the committees and overall performance-car buyers just don't give a f*** so we get what we get.

Well, Cris and Mr. Murray. It is so difficult to explain how much I wish my dad could have heard this. My dad born in 1943 and was a huge F1 fan. I grew up with a passion for 80S and 90s F1 racing. He had every race recorded on VHS TAPE!! He was a true fan of the sport. Include 24 hours...This interview was so different than what has been released over the last several days, about the T50. Bravo Chris, great let’s-not-rush-through-this interview, what a talent Gordon is. Love all the history, the philosophy, the passion. Two things. I once had a request from Peter Stevens (via my friend, that late Richard Lloyd) to lend him a road car whilst he was at work helping to style the original F1, so he borrowed my then ex GTi Engineering Golf, and then following that, my 2CV Charleston, which was a bit tatty, and he said he loved leaving it in the McLaren Cars car park as it wound up Gordon, who he said wasn’t a fan... Secondly, I used to own a drop head ‘73 Elan Sprint, which was always such a rewarding car to drive, especially on a good A or B road, and I completely get why Gordon has (more than) one and rates it so highly. My dream would be that he reimagines one for the ‘20s. Only complaint is you forgot to remind him about the Piquet anecdote(s), but hey, next time!
I hope this car starts a movement where big companies start to follow Gordon’s example and start focusing on driver’s cars. I think there’s an untapped market for this and they’re scared to try it.

Cannot wait to see the T.50 hit the road and Chris drive it on track and is a guaranteed success from the man that made the last best analogue supercar the F1!
When I first seen the T50 I didn’t realize how big of a deal it is!!! It’s right up there with The Valkyrie and AMG One even though it’s a completely different type of car!!!!
I realized it when Murray said the test mule was the Ultima GTR (again), which is an insanely fast 100k road legal kitcar beating lap times of the most expensive hyper cars. When practice starts here you know it's going to be good, the McLaren F1 did it.
Fantastic PODCAST Chris. And fantastic comments and insights from a man whose true genius allows him to be so humble. I would add to Gordon's comments about the idiotic proliferation of SUV's - for anybody out there dismayed at the rise of electrified cars - and oppressing emission laws stifling internal combustion engine vehicles - look in your garage or that of your neighbour - and if you or your neighbour have one - YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!! i only wish I could ever afford a T50 because I am exactly the person that Gordon designs these cars for; an outright enthusiast who lives for driving and who drives for the experience and not the bragging rights.
Such epic, immersive content. However the experience really is spoiled due to the frequency of ads. I understand the need but bloody hell it spoils the listening experience! Could they be pegged back just a bit? Keep these fantastic interviews coming though, first class content!!
This is a video that you don't listen to on the fly but rather watch at home, with a cool coke and an adblocker at your disposal. So pointless criticism.
Listening to this podcast was like listening to your grandfather tell stories as a child… if your grandfather was on the Mount Rushmore of automotive design & engineering. Just “bucket list” stuff.
Out of all the interviews done over the past few days on Gordon Murrray and his T50 (believe me there are quite a few), this is by far the best out of them all. It could be there is no camera/s pointing at Mr. Murray; he seems very natural and more articulated. Or ... it could just be Harris himself, his enthusiasm shines through always, who knows ...
The discussion right at the end is brilliant. Very few ever talk about the role weight plays into the efficiencies of these new cars/crossover abominations. I wonder if carbon fiber chassis will trickle down to our everyday cars not just super cars and what impact that’d make or is it just too expensive?
Chris, Absolutely great interview. Even though we didn't get to see the car as in some of the other videos around, this was very interesting to listen to. Gordon Murray is absolutely brilliant as an engineer and he knows what really matters in a car and what we (he) want(s) from a car. Wish he would do an affordable sports car as well, would really like to drive one of the cars he designed.
All the while as I was watching the videos with Gordon Murray, I kept thinking "if only there was a new podcast with him". To have him here with Chris damn

What a refreshing interview. Love the note on which it ends and the problem it tackles regarding size and weight of current cars.
that was absolutely fascinating. thanks. we need more Gordon Murray in our world. Looking forward to a follow up.
The T.50 is the supercar we don't deserve but need right now. Thank you Gordon Murray for making it.
Loved this interview. Two greats in the motoring world talking sense about cars and their future.
An hour and a half but enjoyed every minute. Illuminating.
Listened to the whole thing, which is a rarity for me. Love listening to Gordon Murray.
Same here... Absolutely enjoyed all 90 minutes,... Glorious interview.
I love the inspiring & enlightening discussion. I just wonder if Prof. Murray will have his own T.50
I could listen to Gordon for hours and hours .... such a nice down to earth guy :)))
What a man. And I love the way him and chris think the same about cars. Great podcast one of the best I have ever listened to. Great job.
absolutely loved this and can not wait to see you drive a t50
Such epic, immersive content. However the experience really is spoiled due to the frequency of ads. I understand the need but bloody hell it spoils the listening experience! Could they be pegged back just a bit? Keep these fantastic interviews coming though, first class content!!
This many ads are just obnoxious.
I agree
Use an ad blocker.
This is a video that you don't listen to on the fly but rather watch at home, with a cool coke and an adblocker at your disposal. So pointless criticism.
@Just think Electric cars are a dead end anyway. Combustion engines will be around as long as people.
Just listen to the podcast. No ads and better player controls
Now that was an amazing interview!
As someone passionate about cars, this is HEAVEN!!
Gordon is on the money about electric cars!
Wonderful - thank you Chris and Gordon!
Best interview in the world....with the 2 most interesting car guys ever
The discussion right at the end is brilliant. Very few ever talk about the role weight plays into the efficiencies of these new cars/crossover abominations. I wonder if carbon fiber chassis will trickle down to our everyday cars not just super cars and what impact that’d make or is it just too expensive?
Thank you, after a less than ideal day, this was just what I needed.
These 2 gents had some blame in me buying an A110 recently... and Chris also on my previous gt86! 😍
Chris,
Absolutely great interview.
Chris, excellent discussion, loved this one and the rest of the series. Please keep them coming. Best wishes Nick
That was a brilliant interview, very interesting.
Great questions, fascinating answers.
Outstanding interview I’ve been interested in Gordon Murray since the 1970s what a career!
Loved this. Thank you for putting it together.
All the while as I was watching the videos with Gordon Murray, I kept thinking "if only there was a new podcast with him". To have him here with Chris damn
Chris, when you review the T.50, please leave performance numbers out of it. Just tell us what it's like.
Dude you and I both know that Chris Harris will do exactly that. One of the very few automotive journalists who goes head first into driving dynamics.
Agreed. If he has to give performance numbers, something along the lines of: "it will do nought to sixty in a very short time and go on to a top speed of a lot of miles per hour."
Gordon Murray is why I got in to engineering, listening to this makes it more so
