Would we just! I can see a conundrum in the making for Gordon - the Koenigsegg Light Speed Transmission, _lighter_ (and much faster) than any other gearbox, but can only be 'shift-by-wire'.

I love how he talks about the F1 being too expensive to enjoy, like 3 mil isn't. Besides, with all the hype generated for this car combined with the fact that only 100 of these are going to be made, it's immediately going to be worth way more than 3 mil.
well i mean 3 mil is nothing in f1 numbers but even when the price of the car inevitably rises its still gonna be cheaper than getting into f1 just for the sake of having fun driving a car
a total of 3 years for the entire design and production process is just insane to me. just shows what can be done when you're not bogged down by bureaucracy
He probably had everything already worked out in his head. And that's the thing when you're small and you've got a total, focused vision. But it's also a fact that Gordon doesn't mind getting help from the best out there - he doesn't waste time developing expertise when it's already there. He just owns the vision and he just pushes his partners beyond their limits to deliver and they do. Koenigsegg by comparison does almost everything themselves, which is also a valid approach, but that will take time.
So glad you uploaded this video. Makes you appreciate the car much more when you get to hear the level of engineering that went into the little things as well. Also, as a Canadian, I could listen to these two talk cars for hours with their respective accents.
I could watch and listen to this amazing genius of a man for hours on end. The world needs more people like Gordon Murray, super intelligent and absolutely brilliant to listen to his knowledge

I'm passionate about people who are passionate about things. That's why, to me, it's such a pleasure to listen to Gordon Murray speak, even though I'm not that into cars.
I've watched about 5 videos on this car (4 or 5 hours). And I can repeat what Gordon Murray has to say, regarding: the boundary layer, the braham car being a blunt instrument, the peto-tube, about Nikki Lauda looking at the gauge entering every corner. But I love it. One new thing I did learn in this video, is about the Rev counter having a stepper motor.
Pretty awesome. To take nothing away from Gordon Murray, listening to him and understanding what’s involved in the development of this car with all of the contacts GM has in F1 and beyond makes me respect CV Koenigsegg even more. ✊
To be honest this is the first time I have listened to a technical conversation for more than 10 mins without getting bored at all. Gordon Murray is an engineer in the purest form as far as I feel. The only thing he wants is to make the machine give the best form of experience to its user.
Wow how down to earth does Gordon seen considering what he has achieved is life and the camaraderie between u both really seemed like you hit it off.....great video to watch thank you
Ibrahim Kanj I feel like James would be the best at truely appreciating the technology of this car, and how they “haven’t built it to be the fastest car in the world, but to offer a unique driving experience.”
Incredible look into what values are put in the car. Lovely to see what feels like a relaxed chat with a genius. At 17:06 he talks about a specific design element, but the video is just panning another area.. I would have liked to see what Gordon is talking about.
Gordon's said himself that he somewhat regrets starting the top speed race with the F1, which led to one-trick-ponies like the Veyron. I wonder what he thinks of the Bolide! At least they got it down from 2000kg to 1250kg, but 300mph! 🤤
Really surprised how the press failed to ask the impact of safety at 235mph when the fan fails. This was the primary reason why it was withdrawn after only one f1 race in the 70's.
Gordon Murray has officially called out Enzo Ferrari: "Some American garagista will put some parts together and go faster." As of course Enzo Ferrari said about the British. Cool.
I think he was talking about the likes of "Hennessey, SSC & Co." When Ferrari spoke those words, he was referring to the F1 world of that era, with British teams not using British engines and stuff like that (in general with the scarce presence of real constructors in the Circus). Do not forget that he was the one to compliment the jaguar E-Type as the most beautiful car ever made, and in almost any review about the car, you can still read/listen to that quotation.
What I love about Gordon Murray is that he has created an entirely new class of knowledge: car engineering philosophy. The man is not only a genius for what he achieves, but the purity of the thinking that leads him to make the choices he does. Please...just one more after this, and make it an EV. Let the T.50 be his final word as to the ultimate analogue ICE drivers car. Now take us to an EV future that shows passion and volts can be real...
I learned about boundary layer control in the late 70s as a crew chief on the A-10, not the first plane to use it. I have been waiting for an automotive application for more than forty years.
Gordon seems like such a perfect English gentleman (not to be cliche), I can listen to him waxing on about the finer points of the car for hours and not get tired. The fact that they spent months perfecting the haptics and feel of the manual switches to be just right, that kind of attention to detail is what I salivate over and these are things that should be given attention to on a car at this pricepoint and exclusivity. I applaud the whole GMA team for pulling this off and I can't wait to see it being tested for the first time, not to mention hearing that V12 being pushed to its 12K redline.
@@MuitoDaora Portimao was a reference point where I realized it's 11 seconds slower than a P1 at full tilt. Even driving to save the tires, it's still 6 seconds slower. So yeah, a Senna GTR should be the safety car.
“If there’s too much inertia, and we’re going to wind the spindle off, ha ha ha” - what a moment. I can’t get enough of these videos. I flick through Netflix and Prime in search of entertainment each evening, but soon abandon the attempt, preferring GM discussing his designs.
As an aspiring mechanical engineer, Murray is fascinating. The borderline insanity that has gone into making this car as perfect as it can be is so interesting.
Dials/knobs, manual gearbox and an analog cluster! He truly is building something special only a few would understand and appreciate. I guaranteed he even dismissed a rev matching feature lol
I'm absolutely convinced that Gordon is holding back on some the performance expectations of this car. In one video, I heard him say the car would have a theoretical top speed of 217mph, but something tells me it will be quicker than that. Also, he says he's uninterested in how quick it will be at the track, but once again, I'm pretty sure he's expecting some phenomenal numbers. Think about it: that advanced fan (much better than the original Brabham version) should have that car grip the track like nothing before, and it's adjustable to the car's speed, meaning that it should crush the Nurburgring, or even Le Mans. Speaking of which, the most important information I want: will any owners transition the car into a race car, like they did with the original F1? That would be completely awesome!
I think cars like these out to be built more. Everyone is just about more numbers, so its quite refreshing to see something that isn't. What I see in this car is pure engineering. Its an engineers car, it doesn't really need marketing to sell. I think Gordon should try out a mid-priced sports car next or even a Hot Hatchback.
First in the other video he talked about how fast and responsive the engine is and then uses a mechanical rev counter, which reminds me about the Lexus LFA’s claim that they had to use a digital rev counter because of how fast the engine could rev up to redline and a mechanical rev counter wouldn’t be able to keep up... I guess we’ll have to wait and find out in the future!
It will never live up to the hype, nothing ever does. But since his aim is clearly to make a better F1 with modern technology he will at the very least achieve this aim for the car.
I’m glad the Rev counter needle was mentioned. I’m sure I heard the Lexus LFA had to have a digital needle because a mechanical one wouldn’t have kept up. How the mechanical needle will keep up in this car , I’m not sure.
If you've a petrol head, I think Gordon Murray us to be one for the "who would you have for dinner" guests. He speaks with such intelligent elequinence, yet with no hint of a put down. I bet he's go some stories to tell.
