I have followed and watched all the major chess channels on TH-cam but yours is really the best when it comes to being actually educational. I love your approach and for a long time now, the only chess videos I watch are yours and my rating went up 150 points ever since. Thank you for your awesome content! "Seekadett" is the German term for "naval cadet". The term derives from the German operatta "Der Seekadett" (1876) composed by Richard Genée in which the "Seekadett"-trap was introduced to the chess world. The original "Seekadett-Move" was first played by the French chess Player François Antoine de Legall (1702-1792) who, by the way, was the chess teacher of François-André Danican Philidor (1726-1795) - famous for the so called "Philidor-Defence". Greetings from Germany where your contribution to the art of chess is highly appreciated!
Just recently reached 1000 ELO after a few weeks watching your rating climb and logical chess series. All I want to say is thank you for giving all this knowledge for free, and for being a great teacher.
Yesss let’s go Nelson the rating climb videos are my favorite, it helps beginners like me learn so much and I always get so much out of your explanations and thought processes 🙏
This is the channel I recommend to anyone for learning chess. You speak very clearly and explain, teach only a point at a time , not trying to overflow too many points like many chess youtubers which leads to nothing in the viewers head at the end. Thank you very much
Nelson: Normally when they play this way they want a quiet game. We can force them to have a messy game this way. Opponent: Psych! Triple down on the messiness.
Started playing a few months ago and was terrible. Stuck at 300-400 for a bit, started watching your content and am up to 1100 and still climbing every day. Thanks for your great explanations!
Interesting climb, I've stayed stuck at 1100, I feel I'm playing better, but it's a balance between my mistakes and my opponent's. There's a plateau that's hard to overcome. How have you been eliminating the losses?
@@konroh2 i got to 700, learned the London and Englund gambit, from there when I would fall for a trap like the fried liver I would find a video on it as well as go into the explorer and play around with the position. @chessvibesofficial videos do a great job of teaching you to see tactics better and I try to add a new tool to my tool box with every one of his videos. I struggled with middlegame tactics so improving on seeing those helped a ton. I used to try to trade the queens off asap and go into an end game because I'm most confident in winning an even endgame but this rating climb has helped a ton with gaining an advantage and not blundering my middle game. I stopped playing 3 minute games and switched to 5 and 10 minutes games where I have more time and I think that helped as well.
Nelson, at 6:57 it seems like most of the lead in development that you'd worked to build has basically been undone. Can you talk about why this position is advantageous? Is it simply that you've gained the bishop pair? I know you mentioned that it matters that the rook is in the center instead of the corner, is it that simple? You have both bishops on starting squares, queen on starting square, and one rook on starting square, AND all your remaining pawns on their starting square! What was the purpose of the gambit?
The gambit didn't gain much there, but Nelson's not in trouble. It is a pretty equal position. Sometimes with a gambit if you get to equal with black that's a win.
Nelson, I have a request. We've seen the fishing-pole trap work several times, and I've since used it to great success (Thanks to you!). I'm wondering if you could quickly explain ways to exploit people playing it against you and counter the position? Say, opening up the rook on purpose, but expoiting their un-castled king? Or are the consequences of the trap unavoidable once you take the bishop? (Chess is complicated!) Thanks for all your work! Im an oldster getting into chess after learning as a kid, and you've been super helpful!
20:56 Black could have played d5, white would take with the bishop (Bxe5), and then black could have defended their knight with Bf5, leaving the knight to block the mate threat. Would that not work? (buying them more time to move the rook or add defenders around their king)
The last game you played was intense to watch! You referenced it as 'wild' and a 'mess' and i couldn't agree more! A pgn copy paste of 75% of my games. Just beautiful complications !!!
Your channel is amazing! I just found it. I follow others, but when you play live games and show us how to react and think, it is super helpful. TY! Where do we get this book you are referring to?
These are the games I am playing repeatedly at 1200. Psycho opponents hell bent on attack and pressure, in these exact patterns. So good to see the counter play. Thanks Nelson, you are a diamond.
Question: do you have any videos pertaining to rook-related endgame tactics/principles for endgames like the scotch game you played? I'm 1150, fairly new to chess, and I find myself in very drawish looking endgame positions or imbalanced ones where I'm winning but one wrong king/rook/pawn move and I lose all advantage...I just had this winning endgame and the move recommended by the engine wasn't intuitive (considering my king wasn't "inside the box/square"). The know-how when it comes to rook, king, and pawn maneuvers in the endgame seem to be the dividing line a lot of the time
22:06 Love your content, this is just a suggestion. When you're opponent plays a move that opens them to a checkmate, please consider ending the game by playing it before taking a minute to talk about it. It let's them move on, and we still get to learn from you afterwards in the game review.
Yeah I was thinking "play the move, play the move!" Also, it's weird if you make a sacrifice then take a minute thinking of the obvious follow-up. I'd rather Nelson play his follow-up moves faster, since they should actually be explained when he sacrifices a piece.
Yes most of the time. I have to set that option when I schedule it but lately I've been giving them early access to all my videos when I schedule them.
At 8:51 why not b to e6? Then your queen to d7. Is not bx h3 a good threat? What do you think about sacrificing a minor piece to position queen on h3 unopposed in front of enemy's destroyed castle?
hi nelson, in the fourth game, after Bg4, could you have played Bxf7? after Kxf7, Ngf5+ looks brutal. obviously mate is better, but i dont know if i could resist playing Bxf7
Great video. Much better presentation than the videos that show you every shot. Would have been nice to have brief explanation of each broad head. I cannot identify most of those by a photo.
Nelson since you don't have much in the way of Black against e4, could you play the Pirc Defence and if White opens with e4, d4, Nc3, transition into the Czech Pirc Defence please??? 🥺
Game#3 was probably the toughest non-cheating opponent you faced the entire series! I honestly thought the game was going to result in a draw before that pawn blunder.
I could be wrong here Nelson. But in game 3 you had the bishop to C4, I saw the knight to C4 and when he moved the bishop D4 away, you had a fork on B2 with the knight. Love your vids. Thx
Everytime Nelson asks what move should be done and I think of a move, he always goes "Hopefully you didn't say [insert what I just thought]", it's hilarious lol
at 21:11 black could have played d5 and after Bd5 followed up with Bf5. Yes you can win a piece but checkmate is avoided and you were already a piece down. Not sure what the evaluation is after that, but black avoids checkmate
hey nelson, could you play the double pawn sacrifice goring gambit (basically like the double danish but with Nf3 Nc6) its a really cool opening and i want to see how a chess master plays it so like, e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 exd4 c3 dxc3 Bc4 cxb2 Bxb2
Its a matter of how Mr.Nelson plays. He pauses and thinks about each move to eliminate all blunders and also able to think what move the opponents make, even the ones playing really well like in the first game of this video eventually blundered when their queen went pawn hunting.
In the third game. Why didn't play play Rb5 instead of Ra5? It contests white's only semi-open file and you can use it to start invading the other pawns.
I noticed a lot of people move extremely fast. Some opponents will instantly recapture a piece without even considering alternative possibilities. Although the best move is most likely to recapture a captured piece but they don't even consider alternatives. I find that very interesting to me lol idk why
So I made like 250 right and I played a 350 with the whales variation to 80% accuracy somehow and Would like to see how a higher level player a master technically, would play it

İ was actually bamboozled when he didn't even consider blocking with the pawn as a 1000~ rated myself this was my first choice
Game 2 the checkmate options were Very educative! I would've definitely missed some of them. Thanks!

44:16 beautiful

20:30 ,here c6 and d5 by the opponent can save the knight, because if he takes the knight....he can fork the bishop and queen....All missed it
White can just play Qh7# after d5
Well, they misregarded that because... it does not work. Qh7#

22:09 - I would sack the rook and then check mate with the queen on h7 :)
33:23 F6 seems like move that stops the undoubling of the pawns and an equal trade.
26:20 Why not take with queen to avoid doubled pawn?
I was valuing the quick development of my bishop and being able to use the d file for my rook as more important than avoiding the doubled pawns.
What a beautiful mess the last game was. Actually good you missed f6 and went into the fried liver line. 😊
Best line for black against the evans gambit:
7. Nf6 8. e5, d5 9. exf6, dxc4 10. fxg7, Rg8 11. Re1+, Be6 12. Bg5, Qd5 13. Nbd2, Rxg7 14. Ne4, Rg6 15. Nh4, Rxg5 16. Nf6+, Ke7 17. Nxd5+, Rxd5
