@@eightinches3671Sly is retired. The Family Stone remains active on stage playing his catalog. This is their current lineup. Featuring original member Jerry Martini and Phunne Stone (daughter of Sly and her mom, Cynthia - the original trumpet player).

Oh, I appreciate that. Again, sorry about the quality of this video. I zoomed in on some people dancing during some of the best parts, but decided not to include. You just never know. They could be there and not want others to know. I was back a ways and the wind interfered with their incredible sound. Love them!!

Wondering what happened to Sly Stone last i heard he was in bad shape physically and financially hope he is well he wrote some of the greatest songs of the 60s and 70s and was the backbone of Sly and the Family Stone

Yes, he is in bad shape. But that is his daughter on stage. She recorded or maybe even Facetimed us singing happy birthday to him.

@@RichardJCaudlesly is doing great these days! He's not in bad shape at all. Clean, sober and enjoying his retirement in a beautiful house in suburban Los Angeles. He released his memoirs recently. Great book! Recommended...

@@n.oneimportant5 Thank you so much for responding. I'm very happy to hear that. All I have access to is what's on the Internet. What an inspiration to anyone else who might be struggling with substance abuse. A true survivor of those turbulent times. He was such a pioneer with the creation of a new style of funk music that I loved. And he helped us all realize that the color of your skin absolutely does not matter. This was so important to me growing up in Texas in the sixties (to contradict all of those opposing messages). With all of the tension and strife, Sly was a breath of fresh air (and sanity, and FUN). I definitely want to read his memoirs. I'm so happy for him! Thank you my friend!!

@@RichardJCaudlethanks for sharing your story. If you're on the cruise next year, I would definitely encourage you to share these experiences with Jerry and Phunne. They love to hear these stories and frequently share them with Sly.

The cruise ship passengers may be better vocalists when it come to the Family Stone! The band really misses Sly!

So sorry. It's my lousy video and I accept responsibility for that. Sly is doing well I've heard. That's his daughter on the video. They are really great and I probably should not have posted it because it does not do this tribute justice.

    • @joeculpepper9960

No ..the video never lies but the performance didn't strike me as a genuine effort. I played cover and originals all my life. It's a privilege to portray. I apologize, I felt it was lack luster.

Or maybe it's just my lousy video. His daughter was up there along with some other extremely talented musicians. If they can get people to dance and have fun then mission accomplished. The evening show had much more energy.
