Great vid, thank you. Started a combo of 2x week 8 min HIIT, and 3-4x week cycling and walking (not fast, 45min - 1hour). Together with 16/8 IF, lost 4 kg in two weeks.

Very informative, thank you! As an endomorph I’ve noticed running and HIIT combined with a lower carb diet with “cheat days” is my sweet spot!! Down 12 lbs this “quarantine” already, and only 3 more to go! I noticed my hormones did balance out too 💜

I'm on a binge watching all your videos while taking notes on my computer, it's like studying at the speed of light. I find it highly amusing that neither you nor Dr. Berg a medical doctors yet you do seem to understand the pathalogy of the human body much better than most physicians out there. Thousands of lives have been improved already and hundreds of thousands could be saved in the future but I'm busy fixing my own health for now.
Dr Sten Ekberg, you are a legend. Thank you so much for explaining this in detail. I am 34 and been on junk food for last 10 years. Your video just made it clear for me what should be I be working with, cheers and thank you, please keep producing many more such videos.
I always thought when I was huffing and puffing I was doing a good workout. That's what my trainer would teach me, I paid him a lot for bad advice all these years. Now on keto and moderate training I finally see results and feel great. THANKS
I work in a hospital . I can't tell you how many people with htn, Diabetes and obesity that ive told about your channel. I'm just trying to help people in my simple way by introducing them to you. Ty for your knowledge and kindness!
Thank you Dr Ekberg! I watch all of your videos while walking on the treadmill, HIIT and weight training a few times a week combined with LCHF/KETO and I feel great! Lots more energy, brain fog gone, calmer in stressful situations, no bloating, some weight loss.... All good stuff! Thank you for your videos. They are changing lives.
The internet is full of differing ideas about and health and fitness. It brought me to a very bad place in my weight loss journey. It felt like there was no real way to lose weight and really to be healthy. I’m not obese but just a bit overweight and I have wanted to understand how to improve my health as my father has type 2 diabetes which runs in my family. This channel and your videos have really given me a lot of comfort. I don’t need the perfect solution, just one that seems coherent and reasonable enough that I can really follow through on it and see results. I really, really appreciate your videos. I feel that now I can focus less on calories and weight and more on my actual health. I’m much happier with my body and much more excited to keep learning how to care for myself. Thank you for sharing this with us! Thank you thank you!!
I got a wake-up call last weekend when on a whim I weighed myself for the first time in years. I weighed 94kg, and I'm a 180cm tall guy, so if I want to get back to a healthy weight I'm going to have to lose 14kg. Thank you for giving me the tools and the hope that I'll be able to get back to health.
Thank You Tim Lester so much for showing your appreciation and supporting the channel and and helping us get the message of health out to the world. 🙏 🏆 😄
Omg. This Dr. just keeps on going! Here I am trying to take notes from his previous videos, and here he is again with a new one! I can't keep up with all the good stuff he shares to us! 💕 Much love from the Philippines!
This is such a superb video! The high cortisol from 'cardio' training causes so much over-training in the world! I've always over trained and am paying the price now with very poor aerobic capacity having trained all my life! Only now have I realised that walking / slow jogging for 7-8hrs a week at my 180-age heart rate is what is best for me to improve my base and recovery (in between boxing rounds) fitness. (This is why pro boxers do their roadwork every morning to get this important work in) Adding 2 sprint intervals a week on top is the icing on the cake. No more medium/hard intensity runs every day which just wore me down! 2-3 boxing / martial art days mixed in for a fit person is ideal. I used to do boxing and MA and run hard most days in between and never ever walk (I'd drive to where I'd run! lol) and I struggled so much with my fitness! I could and always did push myself so hard but was always full of lactic acid, my legs felt heavy and I sweated so much even just minutes into a session! My stress levels were through the roof and I was lucky to have never had major problems! The aerobic training for a youngster can still be fast as they have the capacity to still be aerobic at a HR of 160.. 160 now for me at 57yrs is almost my maximum HR and I become anaerobic at around 123bpm! Wish I knew this 40yrs ago!! Where was you then Dr Sten?? 😄 😄
Thanks! Great video! Exactly what i needed! I will start walking for 1 hour a (week)day from now on. And do HIIT for a few minutes a week. Have exercised for a few years at the gym, but the quarantine made me very lazy again...
18:55 this makes me so happy to think about :D Reminds me of the most fun I've had in P.E. class or with friends with a game of tag. As a hyper-competitive person I love silly challenges, like if I'm out walking with a friend and one of us suddently says: "first to that light pole!", and we both run as fast as we can for a few seconds with no other reward than the joy of movement (and winning of course!)
There is so much information out there, and it is so hard to know what to trust. You explained all this in a way that secured my trust. I know what to do now. Thank you.
You're really changed my life in a healthy state you wouldn't even imagine it Dr Ekberg even though you are a genius.l m still taking one metformin but in the morning my blood sugar is 100 or 90.
I've been doing 100% Keto. Started January 3rd have only lost 20 lb and I work out 5 days a week. Only eat twice a day 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Weight have not changed in 3 weeks.
Thank you for your valuable knowledge, Dr. I am 46 years old with obesity problem. I just started cardio to lose weight. In the video at 14:44 you mentioned to practice 2 X 5 minutes of HIIT. I think I can do that. My Quiestion is .Before doing HIIT do we have to do aerobics first or go straight to HIIT. ??. Please advice Dr
You are awesome...you get deep in it so all of us have to be educated and realise there is no one size fits all... I hate people go "u have to do this, u must do that" ... its all about individual approach...not all of us need the same food or excercise. I think o need Hiit bvz my heart rate really goes up slow... And I really don't have time for aerobics few times a week...no way I can walk 60-90 minutes...nor 40 min...maybe somethimes but not as a scheduled activity. I do 4-5 cardio or HIit and strength excercises...I do protein intake and count calories... Tnx for the videos..
I must say that changing it up and trying HIIT really challenged me. When you thought you were getting fit....I did my morning walk and did 20 mins HIIT. I almost killed me 😎. Thanks for the advice👍
Walking 4-5 miles a day 1500 calorie OMAD KETO, no HIIT or Cardio. Down 25 pounds in 9 weeks. 211 to 186 and still dropping. Target is 175 at 5’10” medium build. Haven’t been lifting but probably should since there is some muscle loss but I’m almost 60 so no biggie I’ll get to it. All based on Dr. Ekberg’s advice and no huffing or puffing!
Thank you for another incredible breakdown Dr.! I fit more closely into the 2nd scenario you described and I recently decided to take up running again, but it was not going well and I just didn't feel right. Took a few months off to do some low heart rate training and try to get stronger but still not great results when I tried running again. I couldn't figure out why. I went to my doctor for some odd symptoms when I run, she ordered a few tests and said it's probably nothing and I should keep running. I decided against though and took up walking instead. It's only been 1 week so far but I think I have adrenal fatigue and need to ease into this, I was pushing myself too hard and I could feel it. I was so happy to find your channel this week and hear you say not to huff & puff!! I have gently been switching to a low carb diet, done a few days of "IF" (16:8) and have been binging on Dr. Ekberg videos! 😅 Learning so much and feeling very hopeful that this will help me get the health & wellness feeling I have been seeking, and if I lose 10-15 lbs & tone up some in the process, icing on the cake (that I'm no longer eating!)! All this to say, thank you so much for your super thorough content and genuine care for others 🙏🏼💗.
First to comment after actually watching the video. I’ve never fully understood the whole aerobic, anaerobic, cardio, HIIT thing, but I do now. Great explanation Thanks Doc.
Never clicked so fast! You are so inspiring Dr. Sten and I share all your videos to my family in the Philippines. They all enjoy your teachings. Thank you ever so much.
I really enjoyed your videos of explaining what is HIIT vs Cardio vs Aerobic and others. Thanks! I didn’t know I should rest and not do HIIT everyday. But yet most of the HIIT videos didn’t seem like HIIT to me too hahahaha... I love walking, but since it rains so much here, that’s hard.
it's a very interesting video, however the logic at 10:40 is flawed. Instead of using that chart we should keep the chart at 9:50 and then simply adjust upper row proportionally to those 2-3 min in relation to 40-60 min of anaerobic training. then the cortisol (red) arrow indeed becomes much smaller, but at the same time the grow (green) arrow's area ALSO should become around 20 times smaller! this would make the whole idea very arguable unless supported by some experimental data that compares the output of grow/cortisol hormones during anaerobic and HIIT sessions
Dear Dr. Ekberg. I want to thank you for your great videos. The way you teach things is so unbelievably easy to understand and follow. You are a magnificent educator. I have learned so much from you, always looking forward to your next upload. Also, I loved the handwritten notes from the past, but this new set up that you have is amazing. Forever greatful to you. I am a happy "health champion".
Thank you Yetzybeth Piedrahita. I really appreciate your feedback and so glad that you liked it. The purpose of my channel is to explain things better than other channels and help people understand the principles. I spend so much time on it because when we get "the why" and the mechanism we become empowered for life . Comments like yours makes it all worthwhile.
you are incredibly smart and such a great teacher. your analogies and examples are amazing. thank you so much for sharing. I have learned so much and apply it to my life everyday
Thank you Chinonso Ibe. I might do that. Weight lifting is more like HIIT if you do high weights low reps, and more like cardio if you do circuits with high reps short rest.
What about high intensity tennis for an hour straight with some small breaks to drink water. Calories burns for singles is around 700-900 calories per hour. What’s is your option on this topic
The exercise you don't do is nothing, the exercise you do is good, the control over your diet is the best. I do LISS 3 days, HIIT the day after and LISS the day after that. Then i rest for two days straight. Repeat.
Dr, Ekberg l wanted to thank you very, very much more videos l watch more healthy l got ,this is the first time in my adult life I finally able to sleep 8 hours every night.
This video is fantastic and very informative. Please keep doing videos like this, I just started a low carb/keto diet and I want to know more and more of the scientific aspect behind this diet and the human body. Great job!
I just completed a 3 month research program via UF HHP college on differences in sexes with HIIT exercise. our protocol was a four times a week , 40 minute session, 10 min warm up [70%] and #4 four- minute HIIT [90%] with in-between passive 3 min Cool down with at 70% max and cool down at end for 5 minutes. Our Max was calculated but verified by max stress test. with just 8 weeks of training to reach the protocol I increased my vO2 max by 5 liter and max HR 156 bpm at beginning of training and 176 bpm at end and lost 10 lbs [no other changes to lifestyle or diet] Now doing 3 times week with 40-4-4 at 90% and 2 times a week MICT [70%] for 60 min. Oh yeah, using schwinn all extremity bicycle to exercise on which is very nice piece of equipment.
This is very helpful tip for me. Now I know that staying on Aerobic mode is more healthier for me preventing not to increase the Cortisol level which increases IR too. Thank you Doctor Ekberg for sharing your knowledge. 👍
Such a helpful video. I finally understand the impact of the different forms of exercise on HGH and cortisol. Amazing. Dr. Ekberg, you explain things SO well. I have CFS/ME and exercise is a minefield. My adrenals are shot. This helps enormously. Thank you.
I am big fan of yours @drekberg .. really appreciate your videos and education -- very helpful! Could you also share your views using a similar video format for weight training vs cardio?
Oh my goodness Dr Ekberg!! You have just beautifully explained why I wasn't losing weight for the longest time, despite doing 90min+ swims 5 times a week. I'm now doing a mixture of cardio and HIIT and I'm losing weight. I just didn't understand the science behind it. Many thanks as always 🤩
@Kevin Holness. Not sure what results you are looking for. Some people take longer to see changes. Remember that exercise is destructive (catabolic), recovery is rebuilding (anabolic). Hit it hard when you work out, then allow enough recovery.
🙏 I have reduced my weight from 80 kg to 62 Kg by intermittent fasting, fasting for more than a day, exercise and avoiding processed food from stores. Still I have a belly fat. I don't know how to achieve flat belly to look good in shape.
I'm 16 years old my maximum heart rate is 204. I was overweight few months ago now I'm close to underweight. Anyhow I was wandering which is better keeping my heart rate around 50-60 percent or 60-70 percent while walking. My goal is to loss stubborn belly fat and get 6 pack abs.
Hi!...Sten... Is combination of Ginger+Apple cider vinegar + Garlic juice+ Honey Good for Cardiac Health.. Having 1Tsp in empty stomach Daily morning prevents Heart Blockage?
Hello doctor.. Thank you soo much for your informative videos. They definitely are changing lives. Although am subscribed, I find myself liking the videos 😊 this is how much we love what you teach.
Thanks. This is great. I wonder if you would, in a future video, comment in more detail on HIIT, in particular the work rest ratio. I am interested in learning more about avoiding glycolysis during HIIT. Thanks again!
This seems to rhyme well with the maffetone heart rate formula which is 180-age and then you might subtract some based on where you are in your fitness journey/health etc.. For me it it scaringly accurate because just a few beats over my calculated HR, I start to feel the need for breathing through my mouth. If I stay under it feels like I could go on forever.
Hello Dr. Can us on keto and intermittent fasting live beyond 115 yrs old? Will the very low insulin for years allow the body to live even past 115yrs? Thank you

No one can describe this better than Dr. Ekberg. I'm 70 and have to be content with walking 500 meters to my academy and then go up 4 flights of stairs to my classroom. Problem solved!
I jump rope. Is it considered cardio or HITT? No one every talks about jump rope. I jump everyday with weighted ropes I do high knee burst jumps about 50 reps 3 times after 50 regular jumps . I have toned up, lost weight, fat and water weight . Never been Happier. 15 pounds in a month- 1 half week
Hey, what about increase of maximun oxygen consumption thing (maxVO2) that increases with cardio? Does this increase the aerobic limit so that we can jog within aerobic limits? Because some hypotheses say that hominin species could do edurance run hunting! So could cardio of extended hours fit in a healthy lifestyle? Secondly, does hiit increase aerobic limit? Thanks.
Thank you so much for all of your knowledge. It has truly changed my life completely. I was wondering what your opinion is on organic sulfur. I’ve read online the countless number of health benefits that it provides, but I would love to hear what you have to say.
Forgive me if this has previously been answered. I am 37 and never been fit or done much excercise. I have started Keto and IF while slowing cycling my commute rather then driving. HIIT is a little way off but something I’m interested in as I get healthier. With it being fuelled more by glucose is it necessary to change my diet on HIIT days?

then the cortisol (red) arrow indeed becomes much smaller, but at the same time the grow (green) arrow's area ALSO should become around 20 times smaller! this would make the whole idea very arguable unless supported by some experimental data that compares the output of grow/cortisol hormones during anaerobic and HIIT sessions
NAMASTE DOC... THANKS AGAIN FOR BREAKING THOSE MYTHS. I CONGRATULATE ALL THOSE WHO DID WATCH THIS VIDEO...
Thank you Dharanesh A.
Dr. Sten is one of my favorite channels. Period.
Dear Dr.
@@drekberg Sooo true!!!!
You are awesome and it's great hearing about exercise from an athlete!
you are incredibly smart and such a great teacher. your analogies and examples are amazing. thank you so much for sharing. I have learned so much and apply it to my life everyday
Glad it was helpful!
May you do a video about weight lifting and it’s its correlation with fat loss?
That would be good video .........
Thank you Chinonso Ibe. I might do that. Weight lifting is more like HIIT if you do high weights low reps, and more like cardio if you do circuits with high reps short rest.
Dr. Sten Ekberg that does make a lot of sense if you think of that way. Thank you!!
What about high intensity tennis for an hour straight with some small breaks to drink water. Calories burns for singles is around 700-900 calories per hour. What’s is your option on this topic
I love that you threw the calorie burning out the window right away. 😁
Thank you so much for this information! Your videos have been so helpful to me on my journey to becoming more healthy.
Thank you for your videos. It is enabling me to pay more attention to my body. Most of all your videos are uplifting.
Another great video and explanation about HIIT!!! Thank you!
KETO diet to loose weight
Please suggest exercise plan, I am doing 60min plus every day plus weight training and not seeing any results
@Beverly Deeming. Wonderful! Glad to hear it.
@Kevin Holness. Not sure what results you are looking for. Some people take longer to see changes. Remember that exercise is destructive (catabolic), recovery is rebuilding (anabolic). Hit it hard when you work out, then allow enough recovery.
yes :-)
🙏 I have reduced my weight from 80 kg to 62 Kg by intermittent fasting, fasting for more than a day, exercise and avoiding processed food from stores. Still I have a belly fat. I don't know how to achieve flat belly to look good in shape.
After watching these 2 videos, now I understand and knew exactly what to do next. Thank you doctor.
I learnt so much from this vid. Very informative and easy to understand. Thanks a million Dr.
Thank you so much DR you just designed me a free workout plan. Don’t even have to pay the gym room 😊 18:45
You always make informative videos. Thanks for putting efforts in making these videos.
Glad you like them!
Thank you so much for this informative video. I really learned a lot about what type of exercise I should be doing.
Thanks. This is great. I wonder if you would, in a future video, comment in more detail on HIIT, in particular the work rest ratio. I am interested in learning more about avoiding glycolysis during HIIT. Thanks again!
I feel like he is talking about me lol am 40 and always try to stay a good shape thank you dr.
Thank you
Hello Doctor, could you please make a video on lupin flour? I've heard that the bitter one can be toxic.
Yes! Exercise should be play. Another amazing video. Thanks!
So which one is better to burn fat while keeping muscle??

No one can describe this better than Dr. Ekberg. I'm 70 and have to be content with walking 500 meters to my academy and then go up 4 flights of stairs to my classroom. Problem solved!
You are doing more than mist than most half your age. Well done ma.
Thank you Mia Vos. Good for you

This video was great to help me finally understand the difference
Dr. Ekberg explains so well!
@Dr. Sten Ekberg, this is fantastic. Thank you so much. What would you have to say about Yoga?
make a video on the benefits of weight lifting while fasting! thanks doc! :D
