Hi pan, I'm from the UK and greatly appreciate the time and effort you take into making your videos. They are always so well explained and I have learnt a lot from you. Many thanks.
Thanks Stephen! Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on TH-cam as we surpassed 880,000 subscribers and we have over 113 million views! Pan your Porsche looks better than new still. I am glad you did a video on PPF as I am about to go down this rabbit hole. Like a lot of others I bought a roll from Chicago Warehouse. Thank you for another cool video and wow that dude was fast who changed your film.
Hi Pan, Another UK viewer here. Love your videos and I am also learning so much keeping my new MG4 EV looking good. I have gone down the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions product route.

We have the worse roads in North America by a long shot. It's disgusting. Don't even get me started on orange cones and construction zones all over the place. I'm 42 years old, and never once in my life have I had a construction-free year with zero traffic anywhere. Very sad.
I have to agree with that! The construction seems to make the roads worse rather than better LOL! I'm glad car protection is at the level it is. PPF and ceramic coatings are a must here. I have a Sun Yellow CLA 35. Everything about our roads tries to kill our cars HAHA!
Xpel requires the owner use their ceramic coating only on their PPF so as to not not void their warranty. Looks great and will be interesting to see how it holds up and if yellows over the next 2 years. Amazing how much damage it prevented from your paint.
I don't really care about warranties. I'll just pay to have it replaced when needed. Plus, I like to control which products I use, and so far, I never had any issues with the top coating brands like CarPro, Gtechniq and Gyeon. They all have great coatings formulated specifically for PPF. :) I won't see how it holds up for more than a year though, as I will be getting a new car next year. I get a new car every three years. I like new stuff haha.
A shop like Chicago Auto Pros that did mine will cover you. They use Xpel, but they do not use any of their ceramic coatings. As Pan said, any reputable coating will not do any damage to Xpel, period.
Hey Pan do you discard the towels you use to level the ceramic coating or wash them and reuse? Your ppf guy made it look sooo easy. His experience definitely shows. 👍🏼😇
Man those chips above and below the PPF would now drive me mad, lol. Although you could fix them yourself, and it'd make a cool video! You can really see what a great job even poor PPF does. My problem as an avid detailer is that I hate the feel of it to work on. Have some clear bra on an F-Type I just bought and it's grabby, and twice as hard to clean. Products get very streaky on it too. It does work though. Another great vid Pan!
Yeah, I'm like you, I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. I just did the rear wheel arches as Porsche's have wide hips and they get hammered by the road debris and stones. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership. But for people who keep their cars for many years, and want the ultimate scratch and rock chip protection, PPF is the only solution. I would still recommend a ceramic coating on top of the PPF, for the best of both worlds.
Love your content. Wondering what your thoughts are on PPF beyond the rear wheel arches. Lots of differing opinions from what I see online both pro and con. Wondering if you have other areas covered on your Porsche? Picking up a new c8 on Friday.
Congrats on your new Vette! What color will it be? I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership. Great video. Curious why you didn't consider cutting a slightly larger piece of PPF to be able to tuck it into the door seam and only leave a much smaller visible edge as it crosses the rocker panel? Looks pretty invisible now but I would think that leading edge will start to show more with time and dust accumulation just as the old piece did.
To make it exactly like OEM. Plus I don't like the look or feel of PPF, so the less the better. I only have it there as the hips of the Turbo S are super wide and take quite a beating, as we can tell from what the PPF was able to save.
Hey Pan, have you ever thought about testing the coatings you have on your show whether it be ceramics, waxes, sprays, etc with a gloss meter? I know durability and water sheeting & beading is important, but for those that want the deepest and wettest look, this is content I would be interested in. Anyways, I enjoy the content you are posting. Keep it coming.
Unfortunately, the gloss meter only gives numbers, and doesn't necessarily translate to what your eyes actually see in person. I have seen gloss meters say that a product made gloss units go down, yet in person it looks super glossy and beautiful, as the gloss meter doesn't account for things like jetting and the change of appearance like a candy gloss effect. It just measures light reflection. And you have the opposite. A gloss meter sometimes says the product bumped the gloss units by a few points, and you can't really tell the difference in person. So I prefer to look at the paint in person and give my subjective opinion on it. If it looks good, I don't care what a meter says haha.
Yeah on Porsche 911 cars you have no choice to have that PPF to protect the rear wheel arches, especially on my Turbo S as they are even wider compared to the normal 911, and they take a beating from the road, despite it being a low mileage car.
Hi Pam, great channel. I purchased a used Highlander with self healing 3M protection film on the entire hood. Do I seal it, wax it or don’t touch it? Thank you for your time sir. Columbia, SC
You can apply a ceramic coating on top, no problem. It will protect the PPF and make cleaning much easier. Check with your PPF installer though to make sure it's ok to coat it.
Man I wish the PPF came off that easily from my wife's BMW. It just came off in little tiny chips. It took me weeks to get it all off. I tried using steam, a heat gun, decal remover, nothing softened that up to make it peel off.
Hello Pan, in terms of cost effectiveness would you recommend using a PPF specific ceramic coating over one that is only compatible with PPF for smaller amounts of film? Which takes me to my next question of since the given shelf life of CarPro Skin is around 6 months after being opened, what do you intend to do with the remaining coating? Would leftover coating be able to be used as a topper since the lower rear portion of the vehicle takes the most road abuse?
You can apply pretty much any paint coating on PPF. It's the opposite that doesn't work. You can't apply a PPF-specific coating on paint. For the remainder of the open bottle, I can either use it on another car, or throw it away if unused. It is what it is. I'm not worried about that.
Hi Pan, i seem to recall you had applied Roar ceramic coating when the Porsche was new. I assume the ceramic coating was applied over the ppf areas. Could the Roar coating have contributed to the ppf yellowing?
No. The coating actually protects from UV rays and yellowing. It would have been worse without it. The factory PPF on most cars is just not the best. The new Xpel I put on is clearly better and thicker too.
I wonder if you asked or know what his ratio is for baby shampoo to water or whatever he was using with water? From what I’ve heard if you have too much soap the ppf slides off but to little and it won’t move once applied. I have to do this to my new Tesla.
I love the Xpel PPF on my Porsche as well! I only had installer place the ceramic coating made by Xpel but it seems you can use any coating recommended for PPF.
XPEL says that if you use coatings other than XPEL, you void your PPF's warranty. I don't care about the warranty, so I apply what ever coating I want. ;)
I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. If I don’t plan to Ceramic coat my Xpel PPF, can I protect it by using other old school ways of protection - powerlock+ Collinite, TW seal & shine plus another topper, TW Ceramic spray, etc? Thank u in advance 😊😊👍👍
You have to be very careful with waxes and sealants on PPF. You'd have to ask your PPF installer what's ok to use, as most products can void the warranty of your XPEL PPF, especially since XPEL apparently came out with a new policy that only their coatings will keep your warranty valid.
Most paint coating can usually be applied also on PPF. But check with the company of your comment to make sure. After the PPF install, wait 24 hrs, and then you can apply the coating. Unless your PPF installer tells you your specific PPF can be coated immediately after the installation.
Is CarPro skin good enough for use on both paint and PPF surfaces? I've had PPF applied to my car in strategic, high-impact areas but need to ceramic coat the car myself due to budget constraints and am wondering if i need to use Skin for the PPF and UK 3.0 for the paint only surfaces.
I pulled that off the hood and front fenders of my at Audi at 80k miles (128747kilometers) . It was easy here in AZ, just park it nose first into the sun and it comes off super easy. Film doesn't stick well at 160+ degrees. I'd never put that on my car again.
Can you advise if possible to PPF brake calipers? Have you done ? How long can it last? What quality PPF product do you recommend for brake calipers? Thanks
I don't think I have seen PPF applied to brake calipers... You'd have to ask PPF installers. Seems like it would be near impossible to apply, and the high heat generated by braking might melt the PPF.
Hi Pan! People in my country are used to wrapping the whole vehicle by this PPF, especially such expensive cars like yours ;) Is this option suits in Canada as well? I mean is it so popular like in Russia?)
Yes many people have their entire cars wrapped in PPF here too. I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership. @@PanTheOrganizer I bet. Just wasn’t sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me. Also, does adding a ceramic coating to a self healing PPF affect that characteristic? I guess you mentioned in the other video that the PPF specific ones are more flexible. Think I answered my own question. Lol
The shots where I was filming the installer were done using my iPhone 14 Pro Max. And the static shots when I'm applying the coating were done using my high end Sony A7S III camera with Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I presented my filming gear in this video: th-cam.com/video/Zauybg-akfk/w-d-xo.html

I had to remove the PPF on my wife’s Taycan before ceramic coating. The edges looked like they had mildew and I couldn’t get clean. Can I put the PPF over the ceramic coating?
If doing full PPF then yes a clean room is a must. Look at the Chicago Auto Pros TH-cam channel for that. They are PPF experts and have a clean room. I visited them last week. Beautiful shop.

Hey Pan, great video as always. Do you have any videos on PPFs for entire panels such as hoods, fenders etc? There are many people who've had issues with PPFs and many who are happy with them. If you haven't done any videos, could you please consider doing one for people like me to see what are some of the negatives and positives are? Regardless. Cheers and thank you for all the amazing informative videos as always. Cheers! M
Thank you. I don't have any videos on replacing entire PPFs. I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. @@PanTheOrganizer Yeah - my 370z (wanna be porsche!) got new PPF on the entire hood/front bumper. Easily the best move as lets be honest: Nissan paint is complete dog$hit. Now I just wish, 9 years later, I did more panels, especially the lower rockers that now look media blasted after 101,000 FUN miles!
@@07wrxtr1 Great to hear that's it's worked for you. Have you had any challenges with your PPFs with stone chips embedded in them or things like the edges of the PPFs accumulating dirt...or any other challenges?
@@-Munditimum- No problems at all - The people that did the install - they wrapped the ppf around the edges of the hood, so you see no lines and no issues with accumulation. On the front bumper - that area - back when I used car wax (not anymore!) could accumulate wax if you were not careful to remove it. Typically you can remove with a good wash or q-tip and quick detailer if it's not dried on there too long. The PPF itself is a bit more absorbant and higher maint than the car paint - I suspect this due to being a plastic that expands/contracts with temp changes - thus allowing for the self healing - but also for things to accumulate on it. Decon and buffing has worked just fine. I do think over time the ppf is thinner now 9 years later compared to new - but so far no detectable discoloration on a midnight blue vehicle.
The best hoses and hose reels (like the one I have at home) are these: Eley wall-mounted hose reel: bit.ly/3b6lSV3 Eley polyurethane garden hose: bit.ly/3qqGePb Eley professional sprayer nozzle set: bit.ly/3u4wuwb And the trick to not have the hose get stuck underneath the tires when you go around the vehicle, is to put this under each corner of the tires: amzn.to/2J9XxmZ
I had PPF put on my CX5 exterior black gloss plastic. It looks ok but they didn’t use this premium film. It’s really hard to find people that will do a top job here even though your prepared to pay whatever is needed. I’ll get it re done in a year and try to find someone that will do a better job on a $60,000 car. Very annoying dealing with people to get things done, even the window tint guy stuffed up 2 of the windows despite telling him that cost was not an issue.
Yeah I understand your point of view. Finding actual people qualified for their job is harder and harder these days. Many are just there for a quick buck, and don't really care about the customer's satisfaction or using quality products. Your best bet is to ask on social media, or car forums where people near you might have recommendations for good PPF shops.

Hey Pan, your car has only 12,000km, that explains why your roar coting is still that strong, my car has 27000km with csl/exo i applied it same time your got your porshe, and my coating is failling all lower panels, even after spring decon and claymit, i commented on your exterior wash video if you remember! Thanks for all your great content! Can you make a spring wash and talk all spontaneously and breathing heavy? 😂 😂😂
I'll need to find a place that can redo my edges.. so upset with the install, you knows it's bad when they don't even notice the OBVIOUSLY Flapping edges over vents and such... oh well.. Unless.... you got a video for that on here? lol
I'm not. But the car comes with PPF installed from factory on the rear arches, as on 911 Turbo S, those are super wide hips, and in that area, as you saw in the video, it's worth while having PPF to absorb the damage from the stone chips. The rest of the car isn't PPF'ed though. Just the way I like it.

Hehe I agree with you 100% !
Cheers Pan!
Cheers!
Beau travail vite et bien fait 😉😊👍👍👍👍👍
En effet!
Woow that PPF was in a bad way. Protected the area really well though, but the new PPF looked so much better once on. Great job 💪
I agree. The PPF did its job hands down.
Great video pan ❤
Thanks Raymond!
I thought that was Levi Gates when the installer (couldn't catch his name) first came into frame, LOL! Thanks for the informative video as always Pan.
Heheh thanks Don!
The guy who installed this ppf on your Porsche is an artist, when it's pre-cut to a vehicle's shape ,you have no margin of error.
He has over 30 years of experience. And yes he's great!
@@PanTheOrganizer thanks for informing me (us) that ppf and vinyl wraps existed for +30 years.
I don't know if PPF have existed for that long. What Martin meant is that he has been in the industry for 30+ years, he started installing tint films.
Subaru Foresters as well need this regularly.
I won't see how it holds up for more than a year though, as I will be getting a new car next year. I get a new car every three years. I like new stuff haha.
A shop like Chicago Auto Pros that did mine will cover you. They use Xpel, but they do not use any of their ceramic coatings. As Pan said, any reputable coating will not do any damage to Xpel, period.
Incredible. Can’t tell where the PPF was applied.
I agree. Great job by the installer.
2-years ago?!? 😳 Wow, it seems like it was just a couple months ago that you got the Porsche. She's still a beauty 😍
Yeah time flies by so fast!!
Hey Pan do you discard the towels you use to level the ceramic coating or wash them and reuse?
Your ppf guy made it look sooo easy. His experience definitely shows. 👍🏼😇
Always discard towels used to level and buff ceramic coatings in glass bottles.
Just use them as shop rags after.
Hi pan, are you planning on doing a tutorial video on ppf install eventually?
I don’t install PPF. But I could perhaps hook up with an industry leading PPF installer and make a tutorial one day.
I have Expel and Gyeoen Certified coating on my RS3 and it looks amazing.
Good duo! Did you mean Xpel?
Rotor detail video??? Please
I never could have guessed that area would receive so many rock chips!
Yeah 911's are notorious for this because of their wide hips. And Turbo and Turbo S models even more, as their hips are even wider.

Great video. Curious why you didn't consider cutting a slightly larger piece of PPF to be able to tuck it into the door seam and only leave a much smaller visible edge as it crosses the rocker panel? Looks pretty invisible now but I would think that leading edge will start to show more with time and dust accumulation just as the old piece did.
To make it exactly like OEM. Plus I don't like the look or feel of PPF, so the less the better. I only have it there as the hips of the Turbo S are super wide and take quite a beating, as we can tell from what the PPF was able to save.
Just now took delivery of my new 718 Cayman style edition 🥳
An awesome timing for a Pan the organizer video…
Congrats on your new Cayman Yarin!! What color did you get?
Arctic Grey... Shiny black Spyder wheels and the vinyl decals just like the Porsche commercial:)
Sweet!! Welcome to the Porsche family.
Thanks Pan!
I can just see Pan watching the clock, eagerly waiting for the time when he can wash the car😉
LOL that totally crossed my mind!
If it looks good, I don't care what a meter says haha.
great video as always. do you recommend or ever tried Larry's product (ammo reflex pro ) because he says it is the best for xpel ppf.
I haven't tested AMMO products on PPF.
I want the black ppf
I have the Xpel and 1 of my cars and I just had the Carpro Immortal installed on my other car.
How is Immortal doing for you?
@@PanTheOrganizer I like the Immortal however it’s been less than 2 months.
Chicago Auto Pros did XPEL on my C8, and Mazda CX-5. It is fantastic stuff.
You went to the right place! ;)
Interesting. I guess it did it job protecting that area. Looks much better without it though.
Yeah on Porsche 911 cars you have no choice to have that PPF to protect the rear wheel arches, especially on my Turbo S as they are even wider compared to the normal 911, and they take a beating from the road, despite it being a low mileage car.
Wow indeed. ❤
Thanks for watching Lee!
Sweet car Pan I’m jealous brother. Also used gyeon q2 over csl on my wife’s bronco works great we will on longevity.
Thanks!
Was it the factory PPF?
Do you think in the future something as Gorilla Glass would be installed on high end vehicles to give better protection?
I have no idea
Thanks so much!! Can the leveling and buffing towels be used for a ceramic coat on an entire car? Or do they need to be changed out at all?
If you're doing an entire vehicle, I typically use three towels to level, and three towels to buff.
It shows that You DRIVE IT! What You're supposed to do!! 😬😎
Exactly! All year long, it's my daily driver. :)
I wonder if you asked or know what his ratio is for baby shampoo to water or whatever he was using with water? From what I’ve heard if you have too much soap the ppf slides off but to little and it won’t move once applied. I have to do this to my new Tesla.
I did not ask what his dilution ratio was.
Pan can you review some of the Xpel PPF maintenance products (rinseless wash, ceramic boost, etc. )
If I get enough viewer requests for it, I'll look into it for sure.
I love the Xpel PPF on my Porsche as well! I only had installer place the ceramic coating made by Xpel but it seems you can use any coating recommended for PPF.
XPEL says that if you use coatings other than XPEL, you void your PPF's warranty. I don't care about the warranty, so I apply what ever coating I want. ;)
Hi Pan. Why did you choose not to do PPF on the whole car? I have a new Miata RF and I'm considering PPF and ceramic coating it. Thanks
I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership.

How long after PPF install do u recommend to apply ceramic coating? Can I use a different brand, non-PPF specific Ceramic coating ?
Most paint coating can usually be applied also on PPF. But check with the company of your comment to make sure.
After the PPF install, wait 24 hrs, and then you can apply the coating. Unless your PPF installer tells you your specific PPF can be coated immediately after the installation.
Is CarPro skin good enough for use on both paint and PPF surfaces? I've had PPF applied to my car in strategic, high-impact areas but need to ceramic coat the car myself due to budget constraints and am wondering if i need to use Skin for the PPF and UK 3.0 for the paint only surfaces.
Skin is only meant for PPF, not paint. You can use UK 3.0 on paint and PPF if you want though.
I pulled that off the hood and front fenders of my at Audi at 80k miles (128747kilometers) . It was easy here in AZ, just park it nose first into the sun and it comes off super easy. Film doesn't stick well at 160+ degrees. I'd never put that on my car again.
Hi Pan. Is SIMPLE GREEN good as an APC on the exterior of the vehicle. Tom in Ottawa
Lots of people use Simple Green as an APC for wheels and tires, but I haven't tested it for use on paintwork (pre-treat).
@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks. It's what I figured. Just thought I'd ask anyways. Thanks

Pan.. was there more rock chips above where the old PPF was or was that just the metallic in the paint?
Yeah there are a few specs here and there. It's to be expected with those hips. HAHA
Lol
Self-healing and regular PPF are both flexible. No problems.
Pan is love you like Yvan I have a question , whats your camera set up when doing videos like this ?
The shots where I was filming the installer were done using my iPhone 14 Pro Max. And the static shots when I'm applying the coating were done using my high end Sony A7S III camera with Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 lens.

Hi Fred!! It was nice meeting you too!! Thanks for coming and showing support!
I had to remove the PPF on my wife’s Taycan before ceramic coating. The edges looked like they had mildew and I couldn’t get clean. Can I put the PPF over the ceramic coating?
You would have to ask a PPF expert. My guess is no
Thanks Pan
Had a homie that tried PPF by himself, didn’t turn out great. His thought was that you would need a clean room. Your thoughts?
If doing full PPF then yes a clean room is a must. Look at the Chicago Auto Pros TH-cam channel for that. They are PPF experts and have a clean room. I visited them last week. Beautiful shop.

I need a hose that’s easy to move around what do u recommend.
The best hoses and hose reels (like the one I have at home) are these:

Eley polyurethane garden hose: bit.ly/3qqGePb
Eley professional sprayer nozzle set: bit.ly/3u4wuwb
