Melancholia 11. Caché 12. A History of Violence 13. Taxi Driver 14. Phantom Thread 15. Her 16. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 17. Withnail & I 18. Der Todesking 19. Mulholland Drive 20. Boyhood 21. A Clockwork Orange 22. Memento 23. Crimes and Misdemeanors 24. Unforgiven 25. Blue Velvet
this is based on user votes, so i can easily see why Clockwork Orange and other more provocative and unorthodox movies aren't there because some people downvoted it for no big reason
I've always found the difference between the IMDb top films and the Letterboxd top films interesting. With IMDb, the first foreign film comes in at number 21 with Seven Samurai. Within the Letterboxd top 21, there are 12 foreign films; 57% of the top 21 films on Letterboxd are foreign (more than half) compared IMDb's 4%.
That’s one of the big reasons why I prefer Letterboxd, I think it’s way more accurate. Imdb is definitely for mainstream moviegoers, the only reason I use it anymore is for TV shows
The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, ALIEN, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Unfaithful, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, Galaxy Quest and of course....Mars Attacks!
Guys, if you want your favorite movies to be on IMDB's top, well, go vote for them. You know how it works, right? Also it's a Top 250 originally, so your favorite movie might already be there.

Probably among more Tarantino, Kubrick, Kurosawa & Hitchcock's films, and probably I'm forgetting a lot of magnificent films. Nausicaa & Castle in the Sky are better films than Chihiro, in my opinion. Return of the King is the worst Lord of the Rings movie, in my opinion. Nolan's films in this list would be out of my top 50 (& of my top 100, but Memento is pretty good). Why do you only watch popular movies?
Thank You so much for the LIST !!
Nice list, my list would definitely have North by Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window and Dial M for Murder in the top 10, alongside A New Hope, Empire Strikes aback and Casablanca.
I think TITANIC is never want like IMD rating.. 😅 cuz it's already wins everyone heart..😍
terrible movie
@@dementedtimtam😂 lol terrible movie but you sat through the whole 3 hours
@@maiden5427 I hold the personal belief that a person may only criticise a film if they have watched the whole thing. The ending can sometimes fix everything but that wasn’t the case for the titanic
@@dementedtimtam What didn't you like about the movie
Schindler's List number 1 for me. Marathon Man, Boys From Brazil, Cool Hand Luke, Mississipi Burning, Alien, The Sting, and Misery would be in my top 20.
I'm Gen X so its fun to see how many of these i got to see in theatres when i was young (i think 13 of them) and also sad, because i know its harder & more expensive for people to see movies in theatres these days (including myself)
Love your channel, always something new and interesting.
My #one will always be Once Upon a Time In the West.
Yes, that is my number 1, best film ever made.
1 Godfather 2, 2 Shawshank Redemption 3 Godfather 1 4.Forest Gump 5 Casablanca
Life of Brian 😂 Dumb and Dumber 😁 Rain Man 😁In the name of the father🍀my left foot 🍀 Groundhog Day😂 Breakfast Club🔥The General 🍀 Scarface ❤️ Carlitos Way💎A Bronx Tale💯 Who Framed Roger Rabbit 😆 The Elephant Man 😂 A hard day's night 🎸
Some of my favourites❤️💎🌍
Rain Man for sure and I'd add Scent of a Woman.
ALL of those beat T2!!!
Oh, yess, breakfast club...
Spaceballs The Movie is such a great comedy! Masterpiece!
Training day is my best film. Then street kings, then T2, Casino, gangster no1, sexy beast. Road house, top gun. Rocky 4, Rambo 3.💪👍
Citizen Kane, Ben Hur, Dances with Wolves, High Noon, The Searchers. Casablanca should be number 1. Who made this list, a 12 year old?
Personnally I ve highly regretted to watch Citizen Kane. I was really boring. This movie took me 3 hours of my fucking life.
Its a User Rating on the biggest Rating Site in the world my dude
Excalibur definitely belongs on this list.
Your description is wrong. It shoud be Top 50 English Movies.....
Parasite is South Korean
There's plenty of non English speaking films on the list... 🤦
Also this goes off IMDB which is a film database and this video is only depicting the top 50 out of there top 250 list which is based off users ratings. There's loads of films on the list that are not in English such as City of God, Pans Labyrinth and Oldboy.
I would love to know what criteria was used to gauge these films?
Really good list of movies. One of my personal favorites that didn't make the list is Falling Down
Yh falling down definitely deserves to be there
Braveheart Mel Gibson and Apocalipto greatest movies of all time ...
Missing a whole lot of great movies you youngster need to watch The four feathers 1934,The Good earth 1937,Cabin in the sky 1943,Lawrence of Arabia1962,Dr Zhivago 1965.Been watching movies for 60 years now I find these to be very good movies maybe the best.
Old movies are extremely tedious and boring. Youngsters won't like these movies
My personal leanings:
1. Synecdoche, New York
2. Blade Runner
3. The Tree of Life
4. My Dinner with Andre
5. Irreversible
6. Barry Lyndon
7. Magnolia
8. Once Upon a Time in America
9. La Strada
10. Melancholia
11. Caché
12. A History of Violence
13. Taxi Driver
14. Phantom Thread
15. Her
16. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
17. Withnail & I
18. Der Todesking
19. Mulholland Drive
20. Boyhood
21. A Clockwork Orange
22. Memento
23. Crimes and Misdemeanors
24. Unforgiven
25. Blue Velvet
Unforgiven should be in there, same with 2001 A-Space-Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange and many, many more…
It is based on user votes, so there is no "should".
Agree with 2001 and Clockwork Orange. My favourite movies of all time
this is based on user votes, so i can easily see why Clockwork Orange and other more provocative and unorthodox movies aren't there because some people downvoted it for no big reason
seeing saving private ryan and the departed was giving me peace at heart.. best movies and best actors in it ever!
The shawshank redemption ❤❤❤😢
Surely...A Man for all Seasons...with Paul Schofield should be on this list. The Sting..all those Oscars .🎉
2001: A Space Odyssey?
A Clockwork Orange?
Dr. Strangelove?
Taxi driver?
The Shining?
Life of Brian?
Citizen Kane?
What a joke of a list
Serious lack of kubrick
all overrated shits
Gladiator, Braveheart, Matrix, Dark Knight, Saving Private Ryan, A Better Tomorrow, Infernal Affairs, Departed, Godfather, Lotr.
My top 3:
1. Schindler's List
2. Apocalypto
3. Titanic
Movies with sad ending like grave of fireflies, parasite, gladiator, the green mile and many more will always be in top lists.
Imdb is definitely for mainstream moviegoers, the only reason I use it anymore is for TV shows
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is a Foreign Film, i think...,#10, is an Italy Film
@@jtmmprints.r.l3529I wouldn’t go as far as to call speghetti westerns foreign (even though they technically are)
The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, ALIEN, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Unfaithful, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, Galaxy Quest and of course....Mars Attacks!
Guys, if you want your favorite movies to be on IMDB's top, well, go vote for them. You know how it works, right?
Also it's a Top 250 originally, so your favorite movie might already be there.
8.5 for BTTF? That is a 10/10.
The Shawshank, o filme mais injustiçado da história
Ci
Como injustiçado? Todo mundo idolatra esse filme, ganhou Oscar e tá no primeiro lugar do imdb
@@andre6563 o Oscar de melhor filme em 95 foi para Forrest Gump
I would've put "Mr. Holland's Opus" in there somewhere. A little schmaltzy, but Richard Dreyfuss is mesmerizing.
The Man From Earth (2007). 9.9
How about the 2024 movie 'After Her Smile'? It's sure to be remembered as one of the all-time greats.
Shawshank... #1... Yes!!!
It doesn't deserve that place, it's just a good movie
@@PolishGod1234 aperantly it does because it has the highest rating and it is what people love. Are you dumb?
@@darkorange5164 just because people like it doesn't make it the best movie objectively. It's just a standard "feel good" movie which main premise is to make people emotional
@@PolishGod1234 no body said nothing about "best movie objectively" it is just the best rated movie on the website. Why are you so hot to prove people wrong? You are boring
@@darkorange5164 you clearly touched the subject that there are objectively no best movies, so don't try to pretend you didn't. For some reason I can't see your first comment now, I can blame TH-cam for that
I love that music.
Gangs of NY, Cyd, Avatar, Dune, Troy, Dancing with the Wolfes, Madmax, Passion.
Shawshank Redemption 👌 but not commercially
The truth, I have not seen it, but I looked for it and the argument is really good. And being based on a Stephen King novel, that's a good sign.
@@karlasanguineti9328 you should see it, nice polite movie unlike Quentin's movie
Came out same year as Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction.
You don't include rocketry the nmbi Narayan effect it has 8.7 IMDb rating
My top 5 would be 1) Amadeus 2) The Seven Samurai 3) Vertigo 4) Paths of Glory 5) maybe The Godfather
In my top 50 might be: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather Part 2, Apocalypse Now, Rope, Pulp Fiction, Matrix, Mad Max 2, Empire Strikes Back, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, City of God, Silence of the Lambs, Ran, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Blade Runner, Alien & maybe Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Seven, Fight Club or Forrest Gump.
Interstellar is a joke, it's boring & stupid, in my opinion.
& #1 Shawsank Redeption isn't bad, but don't make it to my top 50...
My top 5 are
1. 2001 A Space Odyssey
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. The Godfather
4. Dr. Strangelove
5. LoTR trilogy
@@PolishGod1234 Dr. Strangelove is magnificent!
@@fernaarn3557 yeah
@@fernaarn3557 Yea you forgot Rear Window.
good picks
I’m obviously in the minority but to me Fargo would be somewhere in the top 50.
I knew Shawshank Redemption would be #1 my favorite movie. If your ever in Mandsfield Ohio take a tour of the prison where some of it was filmed very cool
12 Angry men is an all time favorite of mine such a good film.
Dr Stranglove ?
28 Days Later (2002). A frontier for zombie movies.
Jurassic park should be on the list. My favorite movie of all time.
I have it in my beloved top 4 absolutely perfect movies
#1 Once Upon a Time in the West
#2 Melody
#3 The Petrified Forest
#4 The Seventh Seal
#5 Predestination
#6 Coherence
#7 Source Code
#8 Facing the Giants
#9 God's Not Dead 2
#10 Prince Caspian
Some I have never heard of, some were better than Ambien, and other, much better ones, weren't even listed.
Happy to see at least one Charlie Chaplin movie...
background music name?
Canon in D Major by Kevin Macleod
I wish the Train was included ,Burt Lancaster, also Heat of the night.
Good choices!
Yep I agree with , The Shawshank Redemption , tho ' I think Schindler's List should come in at number 2 .
Most of them is a list of Hollywood movies that people voted in imbd
There are great films outside the Hollywood that can replace many of these movies
This is imbd's top 50 rating list
NOT the greatest 50
Forrest Gump wins best picture in 1994, beating out both Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption, both of which rank higher on this list.
John Carpenters "the Thing" is the best film ever made.
