The hammer selector is for centerfire and rimfire, there's no safety. The safety is in the shooter's brain. Those barrels and frame are from the once excellent original Thompson Center from Rochester, New Hampshire. Hold the pistol with a two hand grip, stay away from the forend while shooting. Pleased remember to wipe down the steel from your oily hands. Unfortunately S&W bought out Thompson Center and has ruined the T/C line of firearms.
I have a G2 Contender with .22 lr, .357 mag, .44 mag, and .223 barrels. I also have an Encore in .460 S&W mag, and .50 cal muzzleloader. Fine weapons that are a truly unique design. They take some getting used to for sure. I was going to comment about the "safety" you mentioned on the hammer, but I see you found out about the firing pin selector. Thanks for the video.
I have shot and owned TC arms contenders G1 and G2s Encores to .The G1s have the best and easiest triggers to set up . There are so many different barrel's and calibers to choose from .
Gotta love Contender pistols. Mine is 45-70, 30-30, 45/410, 445 super mag, 44 mag, 357 maximum, 357 mag, 38 special, 223 Remington and 22lr. Hope next to add 327 federal or 6.8 spc or 300 blackout.These guns are addictive!! These guns are definitely made to be accurate. They're not for spray and pray.
I know this is an old comment thread, but have either of you noticed a marked decrease in the fit and finish of the TCA G2? I have some guns from 10 and 15 years ago, but my new one (made in 2018) has some finish issues. For example, the TCA logo under the handle is off center and they didn't debur the mold seem on the hammer.

Those Pistols were made for accuracy at heart. Silhouette shooting is in a decline as far as attendance and growth in the sport. But,, with that being said, I've been around long enough to see shooting sports once considered dead come back in popularity. If you Hunt, Handgun hunting is a challenging and enjoyable activity and the T.C. contender offers a wide selection of Calibers and barrel lengths. Reloading takes on a whole new meaning as Manuals have special data in regards to the T.C. contender and that can be a avenue of interests with pay offs not obtained with Revolvers or automatics in the same caliber. also rifle calibers are offered as well, Great for cast bullets development. Just a few things that I would be interested in such a firearm. Dave.
Beautiful piece. wanted one many years ago. it was an almost mine ...should have. rare these days. the range had a used one with 4 other barrels. too much cash involved. Still love them.
The position you don’t understand is called Creedmore. The sport mandates no artificial rests. That position allows you a 3 point contact rest shooting position using only your body and the ground. 5 round groups under 2 inches @ 200 yards are not a problem, providing you know how to use your equipment .
heck even that has to be legal where you are...well maybe if you shot wax bullets out of it! LOL just kidding you......we want all the people like you down here in the South Eastern USA!
I never use the forend as a grip. I have a ten inch 44 magnum and it's cup and saucer hold only. Holding the forend messes up accuracy badly. Touch it off and let it roll into recoil.

The first generation contenders came out back in the '70's. I had a buddy who used his for deer hunting. i think it was in 30-30. Also some silhouette shooters use them for long range competitions. They come in a bunch of calibers and have interchangeable barrels from .22 all the way up to some very powerful rifle loads.
@@CmaxArms awkward to shoot? Yea when you don’t hold it correctly (it’s not a rifle) or have the wrong forend on the barrel. There’s a reason the Super 14s and longer barrels have two dovetail locks on the underside.

you make removing the pin look difficult and it actually is very easy!
I had a couple Contenders I used in the 80 and 90's for IHMSA great firearms. Wish I had one back

yeah, very classic look.......I like it but I also like black/SS look too.
Triggerguard is turning plum on those older models & they look great. Have the G2 frame but trigger's not as good.

This was painful to watch,some newbies take to the Contender and some don't. ...
He didn't want to hurt the pistol. I liked that.
