    Great video, I just picked up one of theses Shultz barrels and I can’t wait to put it into action. I did my own test and I am very impressed.

    Guys... a word of encouragement... don't take ourselves so serious... breathe... After being a Pastor for some 22+ years, a Chaplain in the Outdoor Industry for 15 years and Hunting, Shooting, Reloading, etc. for 40 years, I understand the law and classifications.... but for me ... this is a shotgun barrel, as I have no intention of shooting .45LC through it. It has been specifically customized with straight wall rifling and a choke tube for shooting squirrels and turkeys at distance by JR Shultz

    I’d love to see another pattern test with TSS shot!!! Gorgeous TC G1.

      Something to consider... this is an Encore Pro Hunter frame.

      After a little reach I Realize that because of the 15 inch barrel contenders only came in 10 inch or 12 inch that I’ve seen. I’m going to pattern my 10 inch contender and if I’m not happy I’ll hit our man Marty up for the 15 inch barrel. I own a pro hunter as well. Great video!!!

      I have both the pro hunter and the G1 now. They both have 1913 sharps grips with SB folding brace topped off with and HOLOSUN 507c X2 pistol red dot with 80,000 hours of life plus it turns itself on and off due to movement. Once my APEX and Nitro company TSS ammo shows up we will see if the standard choke holds up and shoot a nice pattern.....

    Have a 10" .410/45LC barrel for the Contender. Haven't killed anything with it yet, but a target would have to be pretty close, probably around 15yds, I'm guessing.

    Your pellet count is going to go DOWN from a 1/2 ounce of 9s to 11/16 ounce of 4s...by A LOT. There are 576 #9 lead pellets per ounce, or 288 pellets in the 2.5" .410 load and only 134 #4 lead per ounce, or only 92 pellets in the .410 3" load. Why would you think #4s would pattern (that's what a shot pattern is called, not a grouping), anywhere close to a load with almost THREE TIMES the number of pellets in it? A 3" 11/16 ounce load of lead 6s will give you over 60 more pellets and will kill to 30 yards with authority.

    • @kerrymackey
      @kerrymackey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And your point is what? I would submit for those of us who pattern / group cartridges, reload, etc... are aware of loads, case length, pellet count, etc... I also know from experience of shooting hundreds of rounds through this .410 that it likes and dislike certain brands, shells construction, loads, and pellet counts. Therefore, the test to determine what was the best fit for my mission, which is squirrel / turkey hunting. Regardless of a 3" 11/16 ounce #6 having 60 more pellets, if those 60 pellets fall outside the max diameter spread for my desired mission, they are a non lethal entity... which do not help me. As for pattern vs. grouping ... one round fired on target from a shotgun is a pattern for that specific round... if I put more than one round fired on target from a shotgun using the same ammunition, I've created a group... That is what it's called !!!

    I don't get it why shoot pellets through a rifled barrel ?

    • @kerrymackey
      @kerrymackey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not a rifle barrel... it's a shotgun barrel

    • @lukewarm1740
      @lukewarm1740 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kerry Mackey It is not a shotgun barrel if it has rifling. Rifling makes it a rifled barrel. Straight rifling (for US law reasons) is still rifling. Was the barrel manufactured by Thompson Center? Is it marked 45 Long Colt/.410? If yes it is a rifled barrel chambered primarily for the 45 Long Colt (Again for stupid legal reasons) that also happens to fit the .410 shot-shell, wink wink.
      Ok, what about a 12 Gu. Shotgun with a rifled barrel designed to shoot shotgun slugs? Legally is this a rifle? Nope. If it is chambered for a shot shell it is legally a shotgun. All gun control laws are unconstitutional unless liberals consider thousands of rules, laws, bans, and regulations to not be an infringement. Now my head hurts.

      definitely don't need that. nor a choke tube either. one lead pellet is more than enough to take care of your squirrel or woodcock or even a hungarian or chinese pheasant if it's a head shot. if you have money to burn by all means of course..

      Here in North East Texas some of our hardwood bottoms have Oak and Pine that are in excess of 100 ft tall; therefore, I'll take all the help I can get when shooting a 3" #4 .410 out of a 15" barrel.

      @@kerrymackey I perceived you waving your hands and calling it, "great". Looked wide and far, to me. Small target, turkey head? Not your shooting! The pattern, range, choke, and weapon didn't match what you were saying. To me.
      I have no exact mirror.
      Just not in agreement with what you call a "good pattern".

    • @kerrymackey
      @kerrymackey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Redmenace96 so do you have a 15" T/C Encore Pro Hunter .45/410 pistol that you turkey/squirrel hunt with that has a better pattern? We would be interested in seeing it ... over the past 10 years of pistol hunting and working within the handgun hunting community, we've haven't seen anything so far that exceeds JR's custom work out of this setup. I'm sure others would be interested in seeing your setup and your pattern for turkey / squirrel than what we are seeing with this specific setup.

    I have one with the 15" barrel that came with it. Most over rated and over priced gun ever produced. Really disappointed with how the 410 shoots. Barrel is also too long to strap the gun on and actually hunt with it. Shoots the 45 ok.

    • @kerrymackey
      @kerrymackey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I've never shot .45s out of mine I don't have anything to compare it with... I'm very pleased with my setup as a .410
