It was a great game not just for eye candy. The game had more technical and submission moves than other wrestling games.

It was to be fair i love a good wrestling game. Once you get past the pixle boobs not like it effects me anyway not into pixles and gay so for me was actually about the wresling and story.even the first games story was fun if a little campy but thats wresling to me its all a little campy so works and the fashion and stuff was cool along with alter egos was a nice touch was never about the giggles to me find it weird that someone would get off to giggly pixles or pick up a game for that anyway get layed😂 dont think this game gets enough credit for what it was and oddly enough i liked the fact reversal was not as guaranteed as smackdown as its kinda too easy to get out of everthing to me in wwe. Also the sequel was awesome added a few more modes and stuff and costume choices just ashame the storys absent in it. Can look past that to a point because theres more modes and gameplay though tags awesome with the joint finishers.👍🏻🌈✌🏻

Still play it sometimes. The animations for the crazy Japanese head drops are so awesome. I could care less about the sexy aspect. I play this thing for the wrestling.

Yeah oddlt enough, for a wrestling game that was clearly put together to titillate, it was actually a solid wrestling game.
It was one of the better playing wrestling games. I miss the engine.
We need more games like these to make a comeback. Fun game solid designs and satire. Story wasn’t that bad too.

only two issues with the story. one they are short and two it feels repetitive. fix those 2 thing and its a great game.

I've long thought that Rumble Roses had some of the best-looking character models on the Playstation 2 (in terms of not just looking like a collection of low-polygon limbs and other body parts clipping into each other the way they do in many other PS2 games) but, obviously, the character models had to look top notch as that was the game's main selling point.
I remember reading somewhere that the models had the biggest polygon count of any other PS2 game at the time.
This game is special for a reason!
This and some old WWF tapes were what got me into Professional Wrestling. Fun fact: the concept art designer was actually a paraplegic and his art was fantastic. This game is, without a doubt, on my Mt. Rushmore of gaming.
This is a franchise that really should make a come back.

I'm wondering if this is a bit like the Dead or Alive series, where the cheesecake overshadows the solid gameplay. DOA was originally built on a modified version of the Virtua Fighter engine, and this is built on a modified Smackdown engine. There are parallels.
Can we talk about the fact that Yuke’s developed both Rumble Roses games? They developed all the Smackdown games since the first one on PS1, all the way up to WWE 2K19, and the first Rumble Roses game even used the same engine as Here Comes The Pain.
Such a shame. The PS2 game was utterly fantastic, but was missing a lot of the features that had been advertised up until the 11th hour of development (like a "Street Fight Mode". Then the game was released on the Xbox 360 with all of those missing features...but now missing the fantastic Story Mode of the original release! Maybe one day we'll see a complete version of Rumble Roses retu-...who am I kidding.
This game was the first time I noticed that something fishy was going on in the games industry.
Namely that's the first time I've seen video game critics with a stick up their arse decrying how immoral the game was.
Meanwhile I had a blast with the game and thought it weird how someone would be troubled by mild eroticism.
Little did I know that these kinds of people would take over over the entire media.
I wish we had more games like this. This game was my guilty pleasure.

It was an entertaining party game. It was also pretty varied and had solid mechanics.
I liked playing as Reiko, Evil Rose, Dixie and Aisha the most. Let us not forget about the version of the intro from Japan as it was super hot.
Boring music? What! That was a banger of a cover. That is my favorite version of Yankee Rose. Alright, I’ll keep watching
Need more games with cute girls
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It had beautiful graphics, music, and the combat system was pretty good too.
It was a great game, and more importantly a fun game. And the mechanics seem off the first time you play, but shortly after you figure out it is much more strategic than merely a button mashing game, and everything starts falling into place. It plays great.
And the lack of bonus modes isn’t really a problem. The story mode and all the fights are just plain fun. And while the videos seems to react shocked to the content in 2022, there’s nothing outrageous in it. In a way it is a 90’s style fighting game with 2000’s design and technology, and that wasn’t a bad thing.
I’d agree, though, that the intro was a tad too long for its own good.
Oh part 2 was bloody awesome. When I bought it I wasn't expecting much. But it's a good fighting game. I went out & bought part 1 after playing it.
I loved this game when it came out. I did a walk out to Look to the Sky for an MMA fight. It’s still in my work out playlist.
I'll be sitting here, patiently waiting for the video on Rumble Roses XX.
If Konami Reboots Rumble Rose, They'd tone it down for the PG/Indy Wrestling Smarks who might buy a copy.

WWE should really take some lesson from this wrestling game’s insane storytelling for their women division,cause Konami really did a good job making Rumble Roses. I just wish I could’ve known this game as a kid. I’d really enjoyed this one,despite its scantly clad women.

It's a shame that the times have gotten so puritanical that we have to entertain the notion that a Japanese game about sexy girls wrestling from the 2000's is some scandalous thing. I remember when such a thing wasn't seen as too outlandish and was just fun and hot. At most would invoke the obligatory "oh those crazy Japanese" response and thats all. Yet the intro and title to this act like it's was some snuff film or something.
Not saying it's his fault, just a shame that everyone feels the need to step on egg shells. If people just collectively said "I don't give a shit" we would've to do this anymore.
First off, good work; love your stuff. This is why I love the Top Hat, but I kinda have to disagree with you on this one. I think you were unjustly too harsh. I understand-- perhaps your wife was helping you play through it and you have to go hard, but I think you are over looking a vital component about this game.
Yes, it is true-- women have boobies and women have smack-able asses, but I say this, if that is the only thing a player notices about this game and not the sweet gameplay then that's on them. Every genre or activity that involves either athletics or combat will invite the use of leotards, trunks and spandex. This is true for both men and women. If a player can't get over a woman in Leotard, or Trunks, or Spandex then why are you playing the game. That's equal to an anti-gun protester playing a first person shooter.
So like, yeah the sexuality is there; that's true, but I appreciate RR for what it did at the time.
The Smackdown games were fun, but they were a saturation within the market. If it wasn't a WWF Yukes game, then it was a cheap knock off that played exactly the same, and giving the genre; WWF had a monopoly quickly. The only way to compete is to do your own different thing. Which is what two others did but they soon fell into the same trap as WWF-- as the games went on they stopped tweaking with gameplay mechanics and focused on features.
Smackdown was fun but after 4 there was little to no evolution within the mechanics. WWF focused on management and the "Simulation". NJPW games went mostly the arcade route to the point where you had a timer to beat your opponent (since a lot of their games where still literally in the arcades), and the few that came to Dreamcast lost their service within that year [overseas]. Fire Pro was about crafting the "Perfect" A.I. and manipulation to create the best fantasy booker card than the gameplay. Don't get me wrong-- all these are great game series that I have played and loved [then and now], but after a certain numeral they became "safe". They stopped pushing the boundaries of their mechanics and focused on a feature.
Again I express, this isn't a bad thing per-ce. This shows the product has its own allure, but when the market has only three big names (for us out of Japan) then it gets old fast. I remember I, my friends, co-workers and family members where skipping games at this time 'cause we knew it would play roughly the same (Hell I still do that now with WWE 2k games). The saving Grace was which feature were the focus. All three of the majors focused on fast gameplay. WWF didn't slow down until 2005 (or 6); when they introduced the stamina system. Again the NJPW was an arcade fighter and gone were the days of WCW/NWO style of gameplay. Fire-Pro was in hiatus at this point.
So enters RR, and it was the most different at that time. They used the Smackdown engine-- true-- but they didn't "copy" it. They used it 'cause it was the best available at the time; standard practice in the biz. What they did with Yukes is they gave you a completely different gameplay than the saturated WWF. They changed the buttons around so it wouldn't resemble Smackdown's, they added two more counter options, and a third grapple option from pummel positions, their story was silly, and they prompted the player to play at a different pace than Smackdown.
It wasn't a low cash grab; it was a breath of fresh air in a market that was starting to copy itself and stale out. Just like what happened to Fighting games in the early 2ks. You are suppose to play the game slow and methodical. At that time we haven't had a Wrestling game like that since "WCW/NWO World Tour".
Yes the women had titties, so what. The sex was mostly only a commercial point here in the States. In Japan the selling point was the main character is the [fictional] daughter of the Famed Women wrestler "Plum Mariko" (or The Anoki). Besides the key commercial point for the States [the Humiliation], you could ignore. You don't have to do that. I think there's one match in the entire game where you have to win via humiliation.
I get you. It was bare bones, but I forgive them for it since it was their own wrestling game made since the 80's. I think you are overlooking the game's best aspect-- the gameplay. It was like playing Ridge Racer after going through a gauntlet of Crusing USA inspire games.
All of the mainline wrestling games played awkwardly for me. As someone who plays fighting games daily (Tekken/SF/KOF), Rumble Roses XX really hit the correct notes for me in terms of gameplay:
1) The counter system, while annoying, was solid and made sense. I enjoyed XX's counter system a lot when it came to human opponents.
2) The moves hit hard, the vibrations in the controller matched the moves, and landing strong attacks felt extremely satisfying
3) Personality!!! While XX could've been taken above and beyond with a legitimate story mode, it did well with the character intros and individual character designs. I have a feeling XX was either rushed, or running out of budget from the way it came out.

So to be really real with you the 1st rumble roses I actually thought was a really fun game to play. The campaign was funny and I like how you could change the character alignment. Graphics were good, pretty much all the focus was put on the girls, the PS2 did not seem about to even have more than 2 on screen at any given time. I also got it's sequel rumble roses xx and this game was not fun to play. And while I was able to play the first game and honestly have fun just from the wrestling RRXX I could not play without an erection which was awkward to say the least. Thy changed the wrestling enough that it just wasnt fun anymore. They added a street fight mode, a bunch of new mechanics. Pretty much the only things they didn't add as a story which was cut or any new wrestlers. The girls looked amazing but I think everything else was bad and not fun. I'm not surprised there was no sequel.

This is one of the games that came out when the 360 was released. Back then the graphics were mind blowing. I'm glad its backwards compatible with Series X. I might get it, but it kinda sucks how it doesn't have a story mode.

Rumble Roses is basically STARDOM and TJPW combined. You get all that FOR REAL if you attend their events. Rumble Roses didn't lie. Haha.

You didn't mention the mode where can unlock a locker room and beach area where you can read bios, listen to voice clips and ogle the women with a movable camera and iirc also make them do different poses.

The game is ok ...... but it got many issues like :
- the too small roster , at least 30 girls should be in the game
- the speed , they move too fast
- a stamina system would be great
- the lack of game modes like tag team , battle royal and many more
- it should be possible in the vs mode to use the face and heel versions at the same time
- the matches are too short , a match ends often in under 3 minutes
- the 3d models looks unnatural , the upper body is too short and the legs are too long
- in the game should be championship belts
- all the girls got the same entrance animations at the beach ring
The JPN version has more harder difficulty than the US version, which can allow you to play longer match. i can escape pin after ate Dixie's killer move

I have played back in the days the game over 250 hours and was an expert in the game , I have play it most of the time not alone .
Btw , for me must be a wrestling game more slow with a stamina system ... with matches that can easy be longer than 30 minutes .

I like how every character was lively, and had a relatable motivation. Makes me wish real females had some of their personality. I like the game because it’s sexy AND playable, like they actually cared about it as a game rather then just a sexy dumpster fire, and the sexy factor certainly caught me off guard, proving just how tame modern games are.
Ha, ha, I still own the PS2 and Xbox360 version, I'm a satisfied customer.
i never played it because it wasn't in arcades but it actually looked like a legit game because it was in gaming magazines. DOA was way smuttier anyways. Also Art of Fighting and KOF used to allow female characters clothes to be destroyed [and actually show them topless].
and i remember thinking the sadist teacher/secretary made me wish i could play it 😉

The PS2 game is heaps better than the sequel on Xbox 360, it has far more "soul" to it and even the character models look nicer despite it being a generation older. XX looks muddy and miserable.

PS2 Rumble Roses was aight. I'm gay af so I didn't really care about the sex appeal, I just thought it was funny. It having voice acting and expressions actually made the game come alive a little.
If it had tag team and CAW feature from XX it'd be chef's kiss. Maybe polygon limits idk.

That game l still play as well Rumble Rose XX. I love the entrance and wish that WWE would have a face and heel feature as well. It was a great idea. I use a code to unlock the faces and heels so l have a big roster but still one on one match is all l need and l just enjoy it. The one thing l don't like is the Title match because you have to get 100% to get a title match. Still l had fun with the game. The story mode was crazy but still enjoy. The controls was like Here comes the pain with a few extra buttons to push. And it had voices so l enjoy that and even special look at all the wrestlers in the game. So really l love the game and just wish they make another one and add new characters in the game.

I even play Rumble Rose XX last night and just enjoy playing that game and watching the entrances as well. I really love this game and l hope they will bring back if Konami and Yukes make it again with more wrestlers and even a better story mode with branching storyline as well.

I actually own an NTSC copy of this game but have hitherto not played it (or found a way to play it on my PAL console anyway, being in the UK)
To me Rumble Roses and Dead or Alive are same.
The story in the first game was okay, especially with the unlockable METAL GEAR stuff. The second gave much more options, but less story. Go figure.
Additionally, it is amazing how risqué this was at release- but hell, these days, it is tame.

For My birthday the year this came out and we had a blast playing it. I’m not a fan of wrestling games, more of a fighters fan. The controls were very tight and gameplay was very solid. But this was too much fun when my boys and I got together and played it. We did more laughing than anything while playing it. 😂😂😂 Would to see a remake/Remaster of this game, but we know in this day and age it will NEVER happen.

Pretty stupid that this game lacked a create-a-character mode when Smackdown had an amazing one going back to Smackdown 2 on PS1. This whole game felt outdated from it's time of release + the wacky controls. This game had potential, but ended up being pointless when compared with the Smackdown series.
I actually have RRXX, pretty hard game to get and love the character, reason i got it. Dumbes thing, getting the achievement u need to BUY DLC, RRXX was way ahead on DLC, just look at games now lacking in content and all DLC.
