I still remember June 2000. Bob the manager wheeling the Marvel 2 cabinet into the Tilt. It was so exciting to stop in and see who had been unlocked. Once the master of Saikyo-Ryu was unlocked it was game over. "Otoko Michi!"

SonSon technically is the closest the four have to a direct link to another Capcom game (MvC2 SonSon is the granddaughter of the Son Goku of the SonSon video game).
Ruby Heart, Amingo, and Ingrid are the oddly long list of Capcom characters with no game to call their own.
Before Capcom made MvC2, Amingo its actually planned to have his own game, possibly answer/rip-off to Sega samba themed game character with similar name, Amigo. However, Capcom suddenly drop the idea and scrap the whole project 🥲
Never understood why CAPCOM never made a Street Fighter vs Darkstalkers game around this time. They coukd've included all of these characrers as a part of the Darkstalkers roster (plus a couple from Red Earth, as well).

Everyone says Amingo was supposed to be in his own game and Ruby was supposed to be a darkstalkers but Amingo has all of the qualities of a darkstalkers character with his attacks
I'm not going to lie my favorite is the monkey character
Amingo is the best fighter my favorite list of incredible fighters next to Shamru
I did an artwork of these amazing fighters like Men Masters from the street fighter series fighting a random puppet from long forgotten video game was made once in 1995 called Brain Dead 13 (1995) the video game as a fighter
That's why I love Amingo
I gotta say, the whole thing where Son Son turns into a giant Ape while being controllable seems likes something Darkstalkers would do, and she's both too much of a deep cut but also changed to have been that someone at Capcom was like choosing her strictly on merit. If she had also been a Darkstalkers character I would not be surprised.
Ruby Heart does have a cool design to me. Darkstalkers? Maybe, but Domingo and his attacks fit WAY better with the cartoonishness. Would like to see her with her own game though or maybe in another cameo with a slightly more active role. At least she's under "Apprehended" on that poster unlike SonSon and Domingo under "Slain".
Speaking of SonSon though, it kinda felt like they wanted an excuse to make a female Son Wukong. Don't get me wrong, I love when people bring in characters from Mythology or even female versions of Historical figures(like the Sengoku Period of Japan or Three Kingdoms days of China). I mean, if it gets people to take an interest in culture and history, why not? That said, SonSon could've been standalone, but I guess the developer wanted a lore reason, so they gave it. Cool enough. Wish she got her own game, too.
Domingo I have less interest in, but as I said, he looks more like a Darkstalkers character than Ruby Heart does. Though I'm a fan of more... stylish characters? A sentient Mexican cactus sounds goofy and fun, but not my style.
I'm so happy, I thought I was the only one who thought that she didnt really belong in a darkstalkers roster. I love Ruby Heart so much, though I wouldnt mind seeing her anywhere again, honestly!
Also, I think Son Son is also a reference to an older capcom game
Its amazing how no matter how long you have loved something there's always a chance you'll learn something new.
I absolutely loved this game when it first came out. I thought it had the best graphics of all time. Being a big Marvel fan i had just assumed any character i didnt know was just from a Capcom game lol. Also i used to think the last boss was Death Adder from the early Golden Axe games.
Most hilarious thing about that final form is how just having Cable on your team and alive is basically a guarantee you're gonna win.
Silver Samurai's lightning special can also kill Abyss in like 5 seconds

Venom is bad? I'm a total casual with MvC, but when I first played and beat it, Venom was one of the trio I used to beat him. And he was probably my most useful member against Abyss.
Hey Top Man. I thought I should tell you about the character SON SON that was also referenced in Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors Dreams in Ryu's Stage as the name of the supermarket called SON SON. Thought I throw in this little trivia for you 🙂.

Back in the day, when the only place you could watch the uncensored version of the Japanese Resident Evil opening was on the Capcom site, I could swear I saw Amingo (along with a handful of different human characters that were like cowboys and robbers or something) in a little web browser game that was on the banner of the site. Might have only been on the Japanese side of the site...pretty sure it was actually. It seemed to be an ad for a game Capcom never made. Stylistically it looked so much like Samba de Amigo that the first time I saw a preview for Samba de Amigo sometime later in a magazine, I thought it was a preview of whatever that Capcom game had been.
Tried finding out what that game could’ve been, but I never had any luck discovering what the late '90s banner web browser game that I’m pretty sure was only on the Japanese site for a short while ever was. Maybe one day Capcom will dig up some art related to it.

This is a great video. I haven't played anything past marvel superheroes, but i enjoy watching these versions being played. I always had questions about where and if i know where these crazy characters came from. Thanks for answering those questions. I look forward to the other characters stories in this game and the street fighter games, especially "Q" and that crazy dude with the Ying and Yang ball in his belly💪
This was one of my fav childhood games...while my older brothers played Street fighter 2&3 years later I played MvC2...Iron Man, War Machine and Wolverine were my team... wolverine could be interchangeable with Spidey tho.
I remember first playing it I told my friend what are these strange characters when I looked at some of them like that cactus..
As for the Marvel side, Marrow is only playable in this game. Cable used to be exclusive here, but he became playable in Marvel: Contest of Champions since 2017.
I really wouldn't count some crappy mobile game (which isn't even a Marvel vs Capcom game) as a basis for comparison.

Or even better if we would get a 2.5 version and they add Dante, thor, deadpool, virgile and everyone else who was added later. Give them 2d sprite art.
Also maybe clean up the old sprite art so all the characters look like their in the similar style

I was really enjoyed this game and yeah those are bonus Capcom characters I think I only saw them in this game they were probably mentioned in the Sentinel level with Marvel versus Capcom 3 with them either being captured or Slade

There was already a Marvel character named Abyss. I thought that's what this boss was based on.
I used to use both Ruby Heart and Amingo along with Gief for a weird, unpredictable control style gameplay
love son son(enjoyed the original and would've liked to see more of her.) & ruby heart(think love heart does the dimensional pirate concept better but do like ruby originally being a darkstalker character,being the leader of the capcom roster with cable for marvel and how street fighter made her somewhat part of the series making the characters from pirate ship higemura her family.) and kinda wish mvc2 had more of a story/arcade mode endings with how it's a bit bare outside the roster/stages telling it like sonson's home after abyss went through it,amigo's village and parts of ruby hearts ship in her home base with it's ending even for arcade style just happening and despite being a bull bossfight liked abyss concept a being that could erode the world to primordial.(just realized outside sigma/to an extent cyber akuma most of the final bosses are marvel.)
I really really really want to make a game about these 3 because I really enjoy them and adore them a lot

I played this yesterday on my iPhone on Flycast! Still an amazing game up to this day. For me it’s 10 times better than Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite.
CAPCOM missed a huge opportunity to make a standalone SonSon game back in the day. Perhaps could have played somewhat similar to Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi in 3D, just not aa violent or gory. Probably the MvC2 character w/the most potential to branch on to her own series of 3D hyper-action games, something CAPCOM didn't have a whole lot of.
Funny enough, Strider being in MvC1 prompted Capcom to make a new 2d Strider game on PS1, they could have done the same with sonson

Tho it's my understanding CAPCOM was toying w/the idea of reviving some of their older ip at the time, including Ghosts & Goblins, 194X, Bionic Commando, Wolf of the Battlefield & Strider (perhaps also Captain Commando, don't remember). Only some of those got sequels or side-stories during that generation, or the next.
Would've loved the same thing which hapoened w/Strider, also happen w/Sonson. It would've made for an amazing, I bet.
Rumor has it, Sonson was at one point considered as an extra playable character in either Power Stone or Cannon Spike. Other than that, CAPCOM seems to have pretty much abandoned the character. There was a time, she was a popularr cosplay character.
