  • There are a lot of CRF 250 rally mods on the market to increase power, but upgrading the ECU could be one of the easiest ways to get power. We built a custom map for our CRF 250 Rally and it has to be one of the best mods we have done

    Great improvements and very interesting. I'm in the market for a CRF 250 or 300. If you started again from this moment in time, would you buy a newer 300 or a second hand 250 for quite a saving then use the spare money for modifications? Given the improvements on the 300, is it worth the price difference for a better base to begin?? All the best, Tim

    • @lightweightadv

      Got to admit, that's unlikely. Never say never etc, but a stock exhaust fits our needs for travel, so that's how we tuned it. Woody did say there were bigger gains to be made with a full system as well as the ECU 😎

    • @lightweightadv

      Thanks Ian, we were well impressed with the improvements. We can't say regards reliability yet. Tye ecu hardware will have to be tested over time. It appears robust, but 🤷🏻‍♂️. We're not concerned regards engine wear tbh. The safety margin built in at the factory is huge and I doubt we have come close to worrying the engine. Of course, time will tell.

We have managed to get better performance from the bike but there is a cold start issue that we haven’t been able to rectify unfortunately. It is fully programmable and you may have more luck than us, I can give you the details of where we got it from if you would like?

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gazguzzler, nope, when the testing is done, the ecu will be a plug and play, providing your bike is in the same configuration to Marc's, ie airbox mod done and stock exhaust. If any of these are changed, a retune on a dyno would be required 😎

      When we tested the 300 alongside the 250 in a real world test, the 300did pull better, but not way better. It's a larger engine and lower geared in 1-3, so that's a pretty conclusive result, but the 250 is still a great bike and you wouldn't go wrong with one.

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, there may well be a change to fuel consumption as the fuel and air mix etc was adjusted by Woody to get the gains you see, but truth be told we think it will probably be negligible, however without testing it we don't fully know for sure. This may well be one of the things we check when we throw the bike at some lanes 👍

      It’s likely to be more economical on the cruise, as the ignition timing has now been optimised, but there’s a good chance that this will be masked by the lads pinning because it’s fun as they did with my airbox mod. On the cruise the airbox mod is also as good if not better on fuel.

  • @Hugo_Alex

    • @lightweightadv
      @lightweightadv  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, so the total gains were made with a combination of new ECU and the airbox mod, when combined these give a great improvement and is what we will be running from now on 👍
      All of the Dyno wizardry is cumulative, each part builds on the other elements fuel, air, exhaust, ECU etc etc, we were aiming for low end torque gains combined with respectable noise levels, hence standard exhaust. We will probably try to test mpg in an upcoming vid when we put it through its paces in the real world ut I don't envisage huge differences with fuel tbh 👍

    I really like your content but i don´t understand why you are making such a secret which ECU is used. If you search the Inet you will find it very easy. The only available programmable ECU from Thailand (besides APITech) is the Full Stand Next ECU which has been used here (at least it looks very similar, please correct me if i´m wrong).
    Don´t misunderstand me: I appreciate your work setting up the CRF with this ECU, results are promissing.
    Is there a plan to do another shot with the dynojet power vision 3? It´s also similar to use but flashes the standard ECU instead of replacement. I´m tempted to buy and use the PV3 on my Rally but there is not much experience with it yet out there. Full Stand Next or Power Vision 3....??
